Both I and CWG40 have provided the information you need to deal with these crooks.  Take the time to read it.

Also, you should demand the caller mail proof of the debt to you. Refusal to do so is a sure sign of a scam.

Before handing out "advice" that is as terrible as that, try getting an education and then reading and comprehending the laws.
"do not want to agree that you owe money just in case that could be in disburse"? Huh? That makes absolutely no sense and sets the tone for the rest of your post.
Debit is an accounting term, why would they be calling about a debit?  Or did you mean debt? Something that is owed to someone else?
Why would you need to verify anything?  The states rather clearly that the debt collector (not debit collector) has to prove that you owe the debt, and this is the important part, that they have the legal right to collect it.
Now, on the extremely slim chance that you will come back, here is my proof, so if you want to dispute me, you will have to provide proof that is verifiable:

The number has called me once but given my lack of trust to calls I don't recognise I didn't answer. They claimed to be the Wakefield & Associates company however I am underage and have never made a payment. Could the call be connected to the previous  owner of the phone number I have, or is it fake?

I received a call, they did not did not leave a message, but I called back. The number was for Wakefield and Associates, a debt collection agency. They were calling, about a relative’s debt. I took down their contact info for the relative, and representative said that she will remove my number from their call list.

They call me at least once a week for an $800 apartment bill form 2001. When I call the number back it says that my call cannot be completed as dialed. I am now enjoying my interactions with the poor souls who call, but I am very confident that they don't

BigA, go easy on the Jayson. Aside from a few spelling errors (probably due to autocorrect),  He was pretty much on point as it relates to being skeptical of these types of calls and to be cautious re what info to offer these crooks. You had some really good points of specific clarification/correction, but you and the Jayson were on the same tree just opposite sides of said tree. Again, you cited specific reference material for further education while the J parroted the intent/spirit/sound-words-of-caution of said reference material. If you/others can get past errors you pointed out, there are gems of good advise from the J plus you offered additional gems and helpful links to further reading/education on the subject. For everyone reading this and the other posts, please take all advise on these forums with a grain of salt and use what makes "common" sense, discard what sounds as questionable as the call you just received, and above all, do your own research so you can make informed, educated decisions on how to handle your unique set of circumstances as complicated issues are definitely NOT one size fits all.

I just realized BigA will point out the aforementioned is a run on sentence, but if you focus on the positive intent hopefully you will find peace with the run on sentence. I'm sure an English Major, someone with certain clinical disorders, and/or the trend of salty internet venom posting bullies can (and probably will) pick apart my post too, but hopefully most will recognize the good intent of this post and the posts of others only wanting to help this forum's readers.

Good luck keeping the SCAMMERS at bay and out of your pockets!!!!

Blaming mistakes on a machine or software does not cut it.  Same with providing incorrect information.  Many people are reading challenged and don't progress far enough into the thread to even learn anything.  If they happen to stop at that post, then they will be completely lost and do the wrong thing.
Now, I have to ask, first, why did you reply to that post where I posted a reply to someone other than "Jayson"?  Second, why are you defending him?  Third, why are you here and why did you seek out a post of mine from 2017 to reply to?
