It's even more hilarious that the scammers will jump in with their obvious shill attempts, and throw in the asinine "stoopid debtors" comment.

Where do you get the idea that "they don't pull #'s outta thin air"? Maybe not thin air, but they robo-dial using predictive dialers.
And why should we call anyone back we have no business with? All we'd be doing is verifying a working number. The best bet is to block and ignore the calls. Scammers can't scam if they can't reach us.

First of all, I am considered to be one of the so called "debtors" on here because I do in fact owe money for a federal student loan with this company Nelnet. I google the number and came here because they just called my phone and I didnt recognize the phone number. I just find it funny that everyone is quick to call out scam, scam, scam. When it is in fact not a scam. Secondly, if I could screenshot my cellphone that they in fact called me about 5 minutes ago I would just to prove a point. However I can't. I have no reason to lie and absolutely nothing to gain by this comment. I am just trying to help people understand that this is legit phone number for the nelnet collections dept.

You should really get that memory problem looked at.  You forgot to pay your student loan, you forgot to get a money order, now you forgot a phone number.  Sounds like a real problem there. I'm guessing you probably forgot everything you learned in college as well?

then block the #. What do I care. All I am saying is they are calling for a reason, as well as it being a legit comp;any for nelnet student loans. I am obviously striking a cord here and I had no intention to start problems with anyone. All I am saying is that it is a legit phone # for nelnet and people are getting all bent outta shape for no reason.

If it's a legit number for Nelnet, why isn't it listed on their website?
And no one here is getting "bent outta shape for no reason" but you.

its Nelnet, just because the site doesn't show this number doesn't mean its not them. they have a whole network of employees at different locations to call and collect on debts. not a scam just answer and inform them you have no loans

Because like many companies that collect money, they call using an unlisted number. Rather than acting like a bunch uneducated loons, if you DO happen to owe on a student loan and you get a call from the number, simply call a listed number for Nelnet and ask them if they tried to reach you? That is exactly what we did and they are indeed from Nelnet. This is so ridiculous, it takes less that five minutes.

Don't bother, rather than simply calling a listed Nelnet number and ASKING, they'd rather be paranoid. Ridiculous.
