    Caller Drew Turner said our company owed for a bad check from 2003. When I asked him the amount of the check he said any decent book keeping department would know the amount of the check by the check number. I explained the book keeper was not in at this time and I would be glad to help him. He was constantly rude and abusive. I asked for a copy of the check to be sent he stated they had sent it and were ready to start legal proceedings. Happy I found this site. Why can't there be something done about dishonest companies like this? Oh BTW there was no bad check after all when we researched it.

    i got a call from hall & assoc. (845-678-6200) a week ago. i called it back and they told me that i had a bad check written in 2006 in feb and they were going to take legal action if i was not prepared to settle. he gave the amount of the settlement but not the principal amount. he said we were settleing for 181.00 and i need to money gram it to them...i asked about payments they said no were not a collection aoffice but a lawyers office. The man was drew turner and he was very rude and harrassed me. they leave my cell phone voicemails with reference numbers....i called his back telling them i need a statement but they claim it wqas snet out a while ago. They would not give me any proof of the debt besides a check number and a group not even the exact person/s whom it was written to, then he called me lazy for not investigating it myself. I found this website and informed autorities of them. I also called them back aqsking for the address not letting them know its me calling, then they patched me over to drew turner and he asked if it was me. I told them i know theyre a skam, then he said that he's going to have his associates press on for more legal action and hung up on me.

    I received a letter in the mail stating the same scam...a bad check written and they want $151.00 for it. These people are the A BIG SCAM!!!!! After talking with a friend of mine who is a ACTUAL ATTORNEY (because these clowns are not), he informed me that their tactics are a bunch of crap and not to dare send them any money!  Then he referred me to the FDCPA (google it), to write them a letter requesting the check,and a  legitimate itemized listing of fees they are asking for. I called them and asked what the fees were for just for sport, and the girl there told me they were bank fees, state-to-state mandate fees, and some other stuff. When I asked what bank am I paying fees to, she didn't even know that and then the airhead only rudely talked over me when I asked her to explain what state-to-state mandate fees are. It was obvious that she didn't even know. THIS COMPANY IS RUNNING MUCH GAME! DON'T FALL FOR IT. If you get anything from them, trash it. But, first play with them for a while with a couple of phone calls. Act as if you might pay them if they explain what's going on. And watch them get rude and pissy because they know they are RUNNING A SCAM. Then right as you have them believing they might actually get some money from you, say "''You can't be possibly be dumb enough to think I fell for this *#$%#,  can you.'' Then politely hang up!

    I keep getting call from them but they only left a message once with instructions for me to call their firm.  I called them and left a message that they had reached the wrong person; however, they keep calling. Now I just don't answer.

    Got a call from Hall and Assoc 3 days ago from Matt. I was told I had to pay 285.?? from a 2004 unpaid claim from Columbia House. He was very rude and told me I needed to pay imediately with a money gram from Wal-Mart. When I asked questions he became angry. He couldn't give me the original amount and said well our fee is 100.00 so subtract that and that is your orig amount. I told him I was going to check up on it and he called me again yesterday. He ask why I didn't pay it the first time he called and that they would take further action. Glad I found this site!!! Cant wait for his next phone call today. By the way the names they are using are kinda silly. Do not give them a dime people!!!!

    Send them this letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested, demanding validation of the alledged debt they are calling about. Keep copies of everything you send:

    Today's Date

    Your Name
    Your Address

    Collector's Name
    Collector's Address

    VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

    Dear {insert name of collector or company},

    I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

    This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

    (b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

    I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

    (1) the amount of the debt;
    (2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
    (3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
    (4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).

    Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

    Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
    you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.

    You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.

    Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

    I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

    Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

    If they can't (or won't) furnish proof that you legitimately owe this debt, they get NOTHING. It's that simple.

    Got a phone call from this company Hall and Assoc.  They APPEAR to be a collection agency, but I wasn't the one they were looking for.  I think it's funny how if they're looking for a female and you're a male they ask if you know the female.  THis is a rude company that places you on hold repeatedly, and then gives you attitude when you call them on it.  Call them back and don't tolerate any attitude when you do get them on the phone.

I call back and ask to speak to someone else he refuses says he's the only person i'm going to speak to. Won't tell me how much the original check (supposeably) was for. And now claiming he's pursuing futher actions. It's beyond ridiculous!
