- Judy| 1 replyThis guy is calling and claiming to be a representative from Microsoft saying my computer is corrupt. I know he is a scam and told him as much be he is a persistent bugger. He called my in in excess of 60 times.
He has a heavy Indian accent - claiming to be from a company that was microsoft. telling me my computer had sent his company error messages. He wanted me to access a web site. I told him my computer was running just fine and that I had no intention of accessing "his" web site. . SCAMMER - DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!! - MikeHuntleton replies to JudyNever talk to anyone who claims to be calling to fix your computer, simply hangup. They will persist in calling if they even think for a moment you are willing to talk and give them a chance to convince you to let them scam you. I know this from experiences with several of these scammers.
Message from Microsoft:Quote:Remember, Microsoft will never proactively reach out to you to provide unsolicited PC or technical support. Any communication we have with you must be initiated by you.
Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories, so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.
Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a legitimate website (such as www.ammyy.com) to install Remote Access software that will let them access your computer to pretend to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information are vulnerable.
Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

Microsoft's fight against the scammers:
https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/201 ... -support-scams/ - KSRay Williamson from TechSecure called me. Ray has an Indian accent. Told me he received information that there are severe viruses downloading into my computers. I told him I don't have any computers in my home and he told me he knew I did because there are two computers on my wifi. So I told him again we have no computers - then he changed his story to say that two unauthorized users were using my wifi. I asked him how he knew they were unauthorized. Then I asked him how he knew about my modem and the two computers and he said it was in the Windows database. That's when I told him I wasn't interested in listening to any more of his &%$&%#% and I hung up.

- MarleneThe man with the Indian accent called today saying that I had previously paid his company for tech support. I asked him a couple times for the name of his company but he never was clear about that. He made it sound like this was an immediate catastrophe and I had to act NOW. He advised me that two other people are using my computer and I needed to go to my computer immediately. I told him I was too busy and he should call me later.....as if I am going to pick up the phone.
