We got this today. Same number.  They stated that our internet access was being used for cyber crime and they were going to turn off our internet.  They said they would send an investigator and we said fine the sheriff will be here waiting since this is about criminal activity.

Never talk to anyone who claims to be calling to fix your computer, simply hangup. They will persist in calling if they even think for a moment you are willing to talk and give them a chance to convince you to let them scam you. I know this from experiences with several of these scammers.

    Message from Microsoft:
    Quote:
Remember, Microsoft will never proactively reach out to you to provide unsolicited PC or technical support. Any communication we have with you must be initiated by you.

Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories, so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a legitimate website (such as www.ammyy.com) to install Remote Access software that will let them access your computer to pretend to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information are vulnerable.

Do not trust unsolicited calls. Do not provide any personal information.

Ray Williamson from TechSecure called me. Ray has an Indian accent. Told me he received information that there are severe viruses downloading into my computers. I told him I don't have any computers in my home and he told me he knew I did because there are two computers on my wifi. So I told him again we have no computers - then he changed his story to say that two unauthorized users were using my wifi. I asked him how he knew they were unauthorized. Then I asked him how he knew about my modem and the two computers and he said it was in the Windows database. That's when I told him I wasn't interested in listening to any more of his &%$&%#% and I hung up.

I googled Hindu curse words and read this list to them preceded by "you are..."

Youtube has some hilarious videos of people wasting their time. Following instructions a guy said he couldn't get to their website by typing dubya dubya dubya dot and then yelled why did you tell me dubya when you meant W? It went on for 45 minutes until the scammer hung up.

The man with the Indian accent called today saying that I had previously paid his company for tech support. I asked him a couple times for the name of his company but he never was clear about that.  He made it sound like this was an immediate catastrophe and I had to act NOW. He advised me that two other people are using my computer and I needed to go to my computer immediately. I told him I was too busy and he should call me later.....as if I am going to pick up the phone.

First it appears that they tried to call from a local number to no avail. They then called twice within the next minute without leaving a message.
