Looked up this phone number and discovered my charge was related to a donation made for medical expenses for a person working for a religious organization who suffered serious illness.  This was a "go fund me" account set up for the benefit of this person.  I chose to donate my money for someone associated with the organization who needed the help, rather than a general charity that spends most of it's donations on managing the charity.

I did make a legitimate donation to hurricane relief for $ 50, but another, separate line item charge for $ 5.00 to WPY*YouCaring 000000001 - Palo Alto, CA showed up as well.   I did not agree to a separate $ 5.00 charge for anything and felt it was a bit shady.   I don't know, but disputed it with my CC company.

This is a gofundme site.  I'm sure many organizations use this clearinghouse. We donated to a cancer victim fund. It came up as WPY*Elora 15 yr Fight and the phone #.  I checked with my wife since the Credit agency hack...thought it might be that.. but it is legitimate.

I had the same and it was for an Ill friend with a go fund me.

It's a charge for GoFundMe. It scared me too at first,  then i remembered i gave $20 for money being raised to help with a friend's funeral expenses.

Thank you, I couldn't figure it out either - It said Bariatric Chair and then when I read your post I remembered donating for a special wheel chair for a person in town. I wish they would put Go Fund Me!

Its a company called Wepay. They will go by WPY SMASH LLC on your bank statement. Its a company that accepts card swipes on cell phones too. I ordered an item from bluestrong assoc. and was overcharged. It is a police organization. Two weeks later there was another unauthorized charge to my card so I turned them in for fraud.

This company takes online payments for online funding opportunities; our charge was for a Honeymoon fund from the couple's "wishlist" listing on The Knot for money towards their honeymoon. I found this site as I couldn;t remember, but my charge is valid.

This is a charge for things like GoFundMe, people! Your bill should have a small description of the fund you donated to. I was uncertain until I connected the two. If you donated recently, this is the number that will show up on your statement.

So in reality there was no reason to look this number up?  Sounds like a scam charge to credit cards and you want people to think it is the GoFundMe.

I donated $25 on-line.  The charge is legitimate, but I second-guessed the entry at first.

Why you replied to the very first post in a 7 page thread is strange, since people will need to read through those 7 pages before even getting to your reply. By the time they get that far, they will have read many people claiming its for Donations and scams. I have to wonder why you thought it was helpful to post this is legitimate when the world is full of scammers who are able to gain enough information to make the same charge.
If you KNOW who it was that charged your account, then there would have been no reason to come here to post about it because you already knew what this number was for. That alone is enough to raise some eye brows towards your post.

saw 2 charges of a $1.00, then a charge for $87.30 all from the east coast and mid west. all this while I'm on the west coast, not sure who these people are. I don't donate over the phone or online.
now disputing the charges with my bank, thanks a lot SH!!!
