- Read This| 2 repliesThese people called me about a debt I paid off 8 years ago. Look up the statue of limitation SOL in your state and realize that you cannot be successfully sued past the statue of limitation. These people try and intimidate you by telling you they are going to sue you and having that process entice you to pay when they KNOW they will loose in court because the debt is statued out. However if you make a payment on the debt or acknowledge the debt is yours and you do owe the money the clock starts again. They are recording every word. WHATEVER YOU DO IN YOUR LIFE DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT ON A DEBT THAT HAS RUN OUT OF DATE PER YOUR STATE. If you do even one dollar the time starts over. These people try and engage you on the phone and talk to you so that you will say something to reage the debt. Do not engage them in conversation...IT IS A TRAP. Just deal in facts not your feelings or philisophical stuff. Dont get angry or upset. This is what they want....they feed on it and it gives them control. Realize when the conversation is over and say goodbye. Research debt collection and learn the rules. Ask for a copy of the original contract, date of last payment, and details of the last payment in a letter return receipt requested. Do not get all worked up about typing it and all that just write itout, copy it, sign it, and send it. Just be carefull what you say. Tell them you do not acknowledge the debt but you want information. Jason at this number told me " we dont have it." Even if they take you to court, do not be afraid of this, they will loose once you produce documents indicating SOL every time unless they can get you to make a payment or verbally acknoledge the debt. You need to research what documents to bring or ask a lawyer. Dont be stupid and pay ancient debts. These people think you are scum, and they will do ANYTHING to get you to fall in a trap. Dont believe anything they say. It only matters what they send in the mail not what they say. Oh and Jason....like I said enjoy!!!
- Mr BillAlexander Paul, John Allen talked to me. These people dont really exist just names they use. Ten year old debt I have paid. I will neer pay it is SOL.
American Asset Recovery Group - Robert Dalyrimple replies to Read This| 1 replyThis is good advice if you are talking about legitimate debt with a legitimate collection agency.
The problem is that you are coming from a POV where these guys are legitimate, licensed debt collectors and they are not. The SOL means nothing to them. They aren't even really concerned with anything other than getting as much money as fast as they can and then when the heats on, stop and change names later.
As a matter of fact I tried to call them a few days ago just to see who answered and I was on hold for 10 minutes and was disconnected. Do you think a real debt collection agency would do that? No. It's a group of ex cons or low lifes doing this from some room they rented for a month or two, set up a Pay Pal acct and try to scare people into paying. - Robert Dalyrimple replies to Robert DalyrimpleAnd in my case, and in many cases, this debt was never incurred. Don't care about that either. They have your name on their list so it must be true right?
- Read This| 1 replyRobert,
Gather as much information as you can and contact your State Attorney General's Office. There is no doubt these people are horrible and many times the debts are contrived. In dealing with these people never admit the debt is yours or acknowledge it in any way ....ever. The thing that will do these people the most harm is gathering as much information as you can and notifying authorities. For your particular case they may not do much granted but if they receive enough complaints about the same company they will investigate. Send a letter to the AGOs office and then send follow up letters asking for a response from them. Send a copy to the collection agency and get your local county prosecutor involved. These people are counting on having nothing but telephone conversations with you and irritating you to the point they get some money any money. If there is no paper trail they an say whatever they want. They play that hold game with everyone. These are all tactics to get money. It is all a big game to them. They track data on the whole process and are aware of demographics where they will get no pushback. They record the conversations an analyze them for weaknes. It is really quite sophisticated. All you have to do is gradually raise the stakes so that they move on to someone easier. The SOL debts are not ligitamate debt any more then a claim such as yours where the debt des not even exist. These companies operate under a name then shift to another name and another. - Robert Dalyrimple replies to Read ThisI have no intention of speaking with them or giving them anything and I filed a complaint with the Attorney General of my state.
I'm done with them anyway. When I showed any semblance of a backbone they moved on and I haven't heard from them in over a month.
I just get frustrated that there are people out there doing this and apparently it works enough for them to keep doing it. - kaya stockwellAmerican asset recovery attempting to collect a debt????????

- Howard SmithIt's kind of funny how on their website (which is a joke) they want you to send "a copy of your driver's license and/or picture ID and SSN to assure you are the correct person the assets belong to". Huh? Sure, I'll just send that right over, guys. (Sarcasm)
Wow. If that doesn't scream "Scam" I don't know what does....
BTW, I wonder what the other 3 businesses that are named American Asset Recovery think of all this? - stevei recently got a letter from american asset recovery so i called to find out why i owed 885.00 and a lady named angie said it was from 2007 from a payday cash advance, i told her that i dont remember doing one back then and to furnish me with a copy of the original loan she said she had to speak to her director, well the phone somehow got disconnected so i called back asked to speak to angie, the call got transferred to someone else who said she was in a committee meeting !! i told the lady who did not give her name i was just on the phone with her and she got rude she said "who are you to tell me where shes at " so i hung up, these people are nothing more than scammers trying to get something out of somebody.

have a nice day rotting in prison you worthless [***]! - scammers replies to Dont Worry| 1 replyThe name of this company is American Asset Recovery 1776 I Street NW 9th floor, Washington, DC 20006
Phone number 720 428 2083. Go to the new Consumer Protection Bureau online and file a complaint. Also go to the FTC website and file a complaint. The FTC has closed down several of these companies, arrested the owners and froze the assets. Be pro active against these illegal debt collectors. A legitimate company will answer your call, give out correct information and address. They will not threaten lawsuits, hang up on you or call anyone and everyone and give out information on a debt that is supposedly owed. It is against FTC rules. This company buys out of statue of limitations debt for pennies on the dollar and tries to scare annoy and threaten you to get your bank account info. Do not fall for this scam. Report them, let's put them and other lowlifes out of business. Also, you are allowed to sue them for 1000 a phone call. Record all calls and log them. There are attorneys who will file the lawsuit for you and work on commission only. T3B - Regwilli02 replies to LuciaI have just received the same letter today. I thought the letter was a little suspicious. Last week I received two phone calls from Jones. He said he worked for clerk consumer services. He said he was going to file a summons of notice to appear 15472 at Guilford County. I asked him where he was located. He said he was from New York. RedFlag! I contacted the Guilford County court and the file number was fake. Do not give any money or type of payment to Mr.Jones . His phone number 336-412-7300, 919-617-6185, or 1-866-473-0549. These numbers are not business phone numbers. These numbers are residential phone numbers.
- agr112This is definitely a scam! I've been posting this everywhere I can. They called me and threatened to send a sheriff to my house if I didn't pay, so I told them to "SEND HIM! And after you do that, stop calling me!" They stopped for a while, but then they started up again yesterday! I've reported these people to the FTC twice now. The person I spoke to at the FTC said that if enough people filed complaints against them, they will do a full investigation and shut down these scammers. So, please go to www.ftc.gov and file a complaint with them, so these people will stop harassing innocent consumers!

- agr112 replies to Dont WorryOh your company threatens alright! They said they'd send the Sheriff to my house with court papers! And on top of that, I called back several times to get an address to send your 'so called company' a certified letter and your people hung up on me at least 4 times, then one person named Charles told me that they weren't even debt collectors! I asked him, "Then why were you asking me for money?" and he said he wasn't sure! WOW!!!
But now I see what you're doing, you're coming on the internet trying to find 'legitimate' ways to scam people and no matter what you do, it is ALL illegal! You'll be found out and shut down, it's only a matter of time! I feel bad for those who have given into your threats, who knows how much you've stolen from innocent people. I've reported you twice and now I'm contacting an attorney to determine what legal course of action to take against your "so called" company!! - agr112 replies to scammersThank you very much for the information I was looking for! I will do all that you've mentioned! These people are so irritating!
- ms.burch| 1 replyhave been receiving calls from this company for over a year now, usually ignore them but did pickup a few months ago felt so intimidated during the call agreed to a payment plan but in the end questioned the amount and if I even owed this requested letter of validation and was told that they did not have to follow FDCPA guidelines since they are a legal institution!!! nonsense
- Caller: american asset recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- Soma replies to ms.burchIf they are claiming to be a legal institution that isn't just a violation of the FDCPA it is, more than likely, a criminal act (i.e fraud/false representation, etc).
And even if they were the FDCPA still applies. These guys are one for the books. Yikes. - Carl W. Goss| 1 replyhttp://www.americanassetrecovery.org/ It looks like a bogus operation. Don't know exactly. But they still have a website.
- Caller: None
- Silva replies to Carl W. GossThat website was made in about 5 minutes. Any first year Junior College Computer Literacy student can make that.
