- Caller: Royal Bank

- toby replies to Permafrost| 2 repliesno its not, its a fake rbc fraud group.
dont give any information to these people.
call your bank immediately to verify your accounts. - perplex replies to PermafrostIt is RBC, not a fake.
I just got a call from this number, they said they were from RBC Fraud Detection, started to ask me security questions, and I said I wouldn't answer because I didn't know if they were for real. They told me to call the number on my ATM card and ask for the fraud department. I did so, and it was for real.
But of course, I could be a fraud too, so you should still call RBC yourself. - FAKE 100%| 2 repliesThis Number in FAKE 100%
I Called myself this number and the prompt is so NOT RBC royal Bank
The phone rings and rings until a [***] answered the phone with Attitude

- Call type: Valid
- AffectedA person called from this # asking for my wife on my cell.
I was able to guess that this is fake.
The same day, unauthorized transactions were done on my wife's account.
So I somewhat agree that the someone inside Bank, which means somehow the Bank is helping for Fraud.
Do we have to leave the money with an unsecured Bank? - concernedcitizen| 1 replyGot the same type of call, a guy pretending to be from 'Royal Bank National Fraud Detection Group'. I reported it immediately to RBC as fraud, the Security Dept @ RBC insisted there's no such group inside Royal Bank and they froze the accounts in question. From there on it's a matter of FBI. Call records can be obtained with your permission and then traced back to locations. Beware! These calls are not necessarily made from Canada. If you get this call, report it immediately to 1-800-769-2511, see http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/ca/email-and-website-fraud-4.html
- dumbboys replies to concernedcitizenYou guys don`t know what you are saying. I got the same call and I checked with RBC right after. It wasn`t fake. Thanks for scaring me for no reason.
- fakei got a call from this "RBC Fraud Group" asking me for information about my account. Of course i didnt provide them with any information because I DONT EVEN HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH RBC!! talk about a scam...at least ensure i have an account with you first...
- danI got the same call and it was legit, but always call back to Royal Bank directly and ask them instead of some unknown 1800 number.
- drydenprice| 1 replyThis is fake. And people here who claim otherwise are probably part of the scam.
This is what happened to me.
I called the number as they had left msgs on both my home and mobile numbers. A man introduced himself and asked for my client card number. When I declined to offer up the info, he simply instructed me to call Royal Bank myself.
I did immediately. A woman checked my file. There was no suspicious activity on any of my cards. When I explained the 1-866-212-2004 call, she was emphatic that this was not an RBC number. She also stated that RBC would not need to ask for my client card number. They would know which of my cards had been compromised.- Caller: RBC scam
- drydenprice replies to drydenpriceActually, it turns out the woman I spoke to at RBC was wrong.
I later received another call from another RBC representative and there was a problem with one of my accounts. - justme| 1 replyI got a call on sat..and again today about this..and I can tell you that it isn't fraud...i just..just got off the phone with RBC..the rep told me that my card had me compremised (wrong spelling)that i better get to my nearest branch to get a temp card to replace the one i have...there is fraud going through my city through atm machines and plus some stores..they are getting the info through the terminals itself...for those that think its fraud..call rbc and find out for yourselves...and pls note..there are people out there working for rbc that have aweful cust service skills..i happened to get someone that was will to help me and called me by my first name when she awnsered the phone there,..great customer service expierence from a bank ever!!!
- nooneyou know replies to justmefirst off the number is rbc fraud - they need to ensure they are speaking to the card holder - if you dont feel like talking to them - you have every right to say sorry i dont feel comforatable and hang up call the number on the back of the card - if you got a call for your spouse on your cell its cuz she/he put their primary number on THEIR profile as your number for who knows what reason and who knows when.. maybe when ur gone on a trip somewhere.. and please learn to spell when you are typing a post - the bank will know your name when you enter your client card number into their automated system -
if you dont .. ofcourse they will not know your name - when you think of all the bs the fraud department agents deal with from people like yourselves making a big deal out of this.. howelse would you expect them to answer your call when you demand answers but no they should be more courteous and polite no matter what happene on their previous call(s). Dont forget treat others as you wish to be treated. if you call and are rude and arrogant.. expect the same service ppl you call are ppl too not machines they have feelings and if you were infront of them in person i doubt you would all be such ignorant hardas(s)' to them.
Best case senario - they are letting you know someone's card was used at the same location around same time and for extra security precautions you should go get a new card even if your card hasnt been actually copied or not.. better safe than sorry - many times theres restrictions on the cards for purchases or withdrals over 100$ which then cancels the card - as to not leave u stranded - just be nice and ask questions - but realize the banks will not tell you where it took place because it may have nothing to do with the company the device was located at but perhaps the technition that services the machines - or any other personel that arent attached to the company/store which means def. of character for a business if ppl start boycotting that place because something happened there.. and if you live in GTA.. not your fault but deal with it. theres millions of ppl there meaning thousands a day may be going to the location that a device is at and therefore all those ppl with all the diff banks will have the same phone call from their respective fin. insitituion..
stop with these stupid comments and terrible grammar and spelling - for all we know your the people that send the terrible emails that try to defraud ppl by saying click here to enter your Online banking info to verify your account.. because the spelling looks the same - justbealert| 1 reply- I got the message on my answering machine to call 866-212-2004 Royal Bank Fraud Detection Group.
- I called RBC Customer Service # at the back of my credit card as it is the only business I have with RBC.
- Customer Service Rep. checked the record and couldn't find out any reason why they should have called.
Transfered my to their Fraud detection section.
- The rep. first said it is NOT their number but she'd double check. After a long check she said it is their number. But she couldn't find out why they called me.- Caller: Royal Bank Fraud Detection Group
- jinxie replies to justbealertI just called a known RBC phone number after getting a message originating from this number in question.
It is, in fact, the RBC Fraud Department number. The person I spoke to told me exactly why they called. - Really?!| 1 replyThe individuals assuming this number is a fake or that the bank itself is somehow involved in perpetrating the fraud, are very, very, ignorant. Did you even consider that by placing your money in any financial institution, it is insured and protected from morons like yourself? In the event of such losses due to fraud - the client's funds are protected and fully reimbursed by guess who?? THE BANK numb nuts. Either you a) call the number and cooperate; b) Call the general # on the back of the bank card - and then get transferred to this same group; c) Go to your branch who then will also confer with this group or d) ignore everything and still get reimbursed by this group for YOUR careless approach while you are dreaming away of other conspiracy theories and how the world is out to get you. Relax kids, despite what your parents may have told you, you really aren’t that important. Have a wonderful day.
- wayneIdiots...
it's real...Dont think so?Call the # on the back of your card to verify.....
END OF DEBATE.
you all should walk around with helmets on 24/7. - Ghost replies to Permafrost| 4 repliesThis is the RBC's National Fraud Detection Group's phone number. It's not a fake. Dial 1-800-769-2511 (1-800-ROYAL-11) and have them check the following phone number 1-866-212-2004; or they can tranfer you to the Fraud Department. It is NOT, I repeat, NOT a fake number.
- CalebThis IS the RBC fraud group... they called me b/c they knew i had used my card at a store with other reports of "card doubling'... then they called me when they saw two suspicious purchase on my account. It turns out it was NOT me.
My card has now been cancelled and I have to go get a new one. I also called RBC tel# on back of my card after the fraud employee initiated the refund of these two fraudulent purchases, and the general RBC agent reports seeing the refund initiated as well.
This number is legit. - JustLacksZazzI agree with Wayne. Anyone saying this number is fake is a moron or a troll. I just phoned the number on the back of my client card and spoke with a representative. They confirmed the number for me and confirmed that my account had been frozen because someone attempted to withdraw $340 from my account. Both numbers gave me the exact same story and the RBC rep told me I had a warning message on my account.
The Fraud Detection Group also told me I needed to speak with a branch representative IN PERSON, get a new card, and change my password before they would unfreeze my accounts (I can't even log on online). Then the representative I phoned via the number on the back of my bloody card confirmed the exact same thing. A scammer would NEVER do this - they would attempt to get way more information (i.e.: card number, password, visa number, etc) and can't freeze accounts without a million red flags going up at RBC.
However, I do agree that if you are uncomfortable go speak to someone in person.- Caller: Royal Bank Fraud Detection
