- XRAYSame crap. Just got off the phone with a woman who who cliamed to be from DELL's financial services department. She was trying to verify if I had applied for credit with them. I told her that I not only did not apply for credit, but I NEVER give out this cell phone number to people who I don't know. I insisted that she tell me where she got it. She told me that she was trying to prevent identity theft and that she needed to know if I had applied for credit. The whole thing STUNK form the get go so I kept her on the phone. I asked her what other information she had of mine. She didn't respond. I said that in order to prevent ID theft, I should be made aware of what other information she had. I asked if she knew my first name, she said she did because I used it to identify myself when I answered the phone. I asked if she had my last name - she did. She claims to not of had any other info. I asked her for her name and she said Tess. I asked for her last name. Silence. I said that I knew that DELL used employee numbers (I was bluffing). She said hers was 390053. She recited it very quickly and I had to ask her to repeat it twice. I asked what kind of credit was being sought, she didn't know, her job was onl;y to check off "yes" if I say that I had applied, or "no" if I didn't. I asked if I could speak to her supervisor, she said yes and put me on hold for about 3 minutes after which time she got back on the phone and said that the Supervisor would have to call me back because she "couldn't transfer an outgoing call". I asked where she was calling from, she said Texas - Fort Worth. I asked her if the job market in Fort Worth was so bad that she had to work calling people on a Sunday night to try deceive them into giving out personal information. She said she understands my concern and a supervisor would be calling me back -- Can't wait to get a hold of this [***].

- JeffReceived unclear message stating that I needed to verify "something" and to call back. I called back and they asked for my cell phone number and asked me to spell my full name. They said they were from Dell. Then they said they couldn't find me in their records and to ignore the message I received. I have never contacted Dell or purchased anything from them.
- Caller: Dell
- Roxy| 1 replyI also called Dell from their website - this number is their fraud department trying to verify if you opened an account. I have a Fraud Alert on all credit bureaus and am VERY concerned about monitoring my credit.
- Caller: Dell Financial Serv
- Fred| 2 repliesI received a voice mail saying to call 866-228-9620 regarding an order with Dell. An order number was left in the message. My called I.D. only said "Toll Free Call".
I called the number and they asked for name and phone number that I was calling them from. They called me back to verify my phone number.
I told them no one had made any recent purchases from Dell nor had anyone applied for credit from Dell. They said they would cancel the application and notify the credit agencies.
The Indian guy DID NOT ASK FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.- Caller: Dell Financial Services
- Anonymous replies to mickI just got a phone call from them as well. I checked online before calling and my account was locked. I called it back and gave them my phone number, not my social, and they looked it up, called me back on it and my account was unlocked. I gave them no personal information other than my name and phone number. It is legit.
- MidUSA| 1 reply01/07/11: After reading these complaints yesterday, I am wondering why this is allowed to continue!!! Why doesn't Dell or law enforcement do something to stop this??
Today, I received the 3rd call. The prior two days I wasn't at home to answer, so messages was left, both calls came in between 11:30 a.m. & 12:00 p.m., complete with return phone number, order confirmation number, etc. Today, I made sure I was home, after allowing their recording to complete, there was the option to speak with a customer service rep. When that rep got on the phone, she wanted to know, how can I help you, I ask why would anyone received a call from their number, 866-228-9620? She couldn't tell me without my name, I refused, she needed the number I was calling from, I refused, as I again told her I wanted to know why a call from 866-228-9620 was coming to me. When I couldn't get any answers, I became irate and wouldn't even want to post the words I said to this foreign speaking women about how this must be a fraud scam. I requested to speak with someone "up the latter, that means higher in command than you." She then offered to remove my phone number so it wouldn't be called. Don't forget earlier she kept asking for my number, so how the hick was she going to remove it? Strange!!! Finally after being placed on hold for sometime, supposedly a supervisor came on the line, even those she swore she was a supervisor she sounded like the same person, but same old crap as the other rep, wanting information, but still would not tell me why I or anyone else would be receiving calls from 866-228-9620. Both focused on attempting to get information.
Yesterday, in fear that if I returned the call from my home phone, it might automatically verify the so call order, which I had NOT placed, I had my son call from his home phone. Using only the confirmation number, they could NOT seem to locate any information. That seemed strange because doesn't orders have order numbers, can't computer search by an order number?
Everything about these calls is strange!!! The strangest thing, due to health issues, I was forced to take bankcupty, I have poor credit, if it is Dell they must be desperate, why would they even want me to verify an order? Sure they would have checked credit.- Caller: Dell Financial
- Joe Doe replies to MidUSAI completely agree with MidUSA's post! WHY is this identity theft allowed to continue? I have been reading blogs and forums complaining about this number (866-228-9620) claiming to be Dell Financial Services, with postings as old as 2006!!!!!! I received five calls from this number in the last 2 days trying to get my SSN to verify an order that doesn't exist! I've given them NO information. I will call the real Dell Financial Department (800-283-2210) which I retrieved from Dell's website tomorrow when they are open to see if they have received other calls regarding this issue. Dell needs to know. I will tell them. I will then report to the FBI.
- Dell Representative replies to Roxy"Roxy" this is not a valid number. It is not Dell. You either work for the fraud scam or you yourself were scammed to believe it is a valid number. Call 800-283-2210 to confirm. The REAL Dell financial services department.
- ??? replies to Fred| 1 replyIt's a scam and I think YOU know it! I'm reporting this to the FBI.
- ealrkjela???? replies to ealrkjelaYou could have at least come up with a better fake name Mr. Ealrkjela! haha. You're full of it! You probably work for the scam!
- Dianaomg it's a fraud? i even provided my social security number because i thought it was for my financial aid services for college! I hope someone does something! Now, I am scared I hope they don't like abuse my social security number or something!

- ntMy husband and I both received the message from Dell Financial Services, so I called Dell using the number on their website (1-800-WWW-DELL) and they informed me that 1-866-228-9620 is a legitimate telephone number for Dell verifications. Looks like someone did try to use my husband's name to open a Dell computer account.
- notfallingforitYep, just got a call. They refused to talk to me, since the phone number is under my husband's name. gave the number to hubby, and got nowhere. My bet is FRAUD!!!

- consumer replies to AGthe 866-228-9620 is Dell Financial Services. They are unprofessional and it does sound like a scam when you get the call. I went to dell.com and submitted request through customer service and they verified that the above number was theirs....i called the number. it wasnt that someone was trying to buy something with my info, credit, etc...it was wrong phone number placed on order...thats it.

- Sixty8ChevelleGirl| 2 repliesI've gotten 3 calls in 2 days....two on my cell and one on my home phone....same deal - call us back with this verification number. The latest message said that they needed to verify my purchase by tomorrow. Hmmm, if I don't call back by tomorrow does that mean they'll stop calling?
