    Here are the rules.
    1. You have a debt, you can't pay...you get sent to collections.
    2. Your credit is ruined. you have 2 choices.
3.Pay or if you can't take the hit.
    4. Credit ruined - SOL 2 years .So your a@@ is in the fire already.
    5. They can't collect on a bad debt and are supposed to leave you alone.
    6. You have already paid the price with credit rating ruined, they can't/shouldn't by law contact you again.
    7. My advice is that you can't get your credit back so you have 4 more years to wait...It will drop off your credit but if you try to answer them the time starts back from 0 years and you have to deal with the harassment for another 7 years and every other company taking a sneak peek at your credit will do the same to you.
If you did the time they can't get the money also.  Hey rules are rules Jack. To he$$ with your morals, they don't have any.

Collection on debts  past the limits of the SOL rules should be made illegal and re-enforced by the government.

Lets Start a petition....!!!! Anybody with me? Leave a reply and I will start one.

If your going to respond to my comment, make sure you know your facts..or as you call them your "rules".
Regardless of how you try and justify not paying a debt, it's still legally your's so why blame the collection agency's doing their jobs?  I have made mistakes and had debt in collections from silly choices when I was young..not once did I arrogantly blame collection agency's for my bad choices or mistakes.  Even if you did lose a job or went through tough financial times, man up and pay your bill..maybe it will be later than your creditors would like and maybe you did ignore them for years but you eventually took care of YOUR responsibility.  I worked at a credit counselling company and saw first hand some really tough and sad situations..deaths..job loss..health problems etc etc and people still came to us for help and paid back what they knew they owed.  People like you are the reason collection agency's exist..there will always be low life's trying to scam the system and get out of paying their debt..thats just life. Go ahead and start a petition idiot..you think the government or anyone of importance would take your request seriously?  You call the debt collectors the low life's? Your the person calling them names and not paying your bills.  Noone is perfect but when I owed people money for MY bad choices I sure as hell didnt point the finger at them and call them names..at least be man enough to own up to your responsibility's..If you cant pay it and want to wait 6 years to have it fall off your credit report (BC) than just ignore them..change your cell # do what you need to do, but dont blame the people doing their jobs..who by the way make decent money and arent bottom of the barrell low life's..most agency's not only do credit check's prior to hiring a collector but also always do background checks and criminal record checks..these people are educated and have a good knowledge of finances..as I previously said - ask for their help with a payment plan and work it out..they get angry and start calling more when you are rude to them.  Good luck and grow up.

Also - your credit is ruined for more than 2 years..it stays on your bureau in BC for 6 years before the debt is extenguished (meaning they can no longer collect on it and do not attempt to contact you anymore). 2 years is simply the time they have to secure a legal judgement against you (which if obtained, stays on your credit report for 10 years).  Depending on which other province you reside, it stay's on your bureau for the same 6 years, however they can legally collect on the debt indefinatly because it was never paid back.

As for agency's not being allowed to collect on a bad debt, they absolutely can.  On your credit report you will see the origional creditor list's the debt as a "bad debt write off" or R9..this is the worst rating you can have.  When the debt it sent to a collection agency, they almost always list it as a "collection item" and list the amount and date listed..if you pay your debt this collection item gets updated as either settled in full or paid in full..although this does not eliminate the R9 from your trade lines, if you are applying for financing and trying to rebuild your credit, credit granting companies will grant credit to you depending on many factors as long as they see you have paid your debt..so to say its not worth it to pay it back once the debt is with an agency is also not correct.  I have seen people get their first mortgage with R9's on their bureau simply because they did not have anything still owing and lendors saw that they took responsibility for what they owed.  Your credit is not permanantly ruined because you made bad choices in your past..as long as you make the right choices and fix your mistakes after.  If you'd rather just wait 6 years and try and rebuild your credit again from scratch than you can do that too but 6 years is longer than you might think. To say you cannot get your credit back until the item's fall off your report is incorrect and I have seen that first hand.

I guess you are one of the people calling me from Skylink. i could care less if you think i have no morals. my debt is over 8 years old from college already fell off my credit report so why should i answer these idiots and start making payment so the debt could start showing up on my credit report again to ruin it again (i have a 800+ score now). does this make any sense to you? why should i ruin my credit now for something i did when i was young and stupid when i am in the midst of applying for a mortgage??? should i continue topaz my past mistakes for the rest of my life??? i have all my bills on time now because i have learned from my mistakes like you did but i don't sit and pass judgment on others that are going through a hard time because i was once there. My advice to anyone getting these calls in ontario ignore them especially if the debt has fallen off your credit report and has no effect on you because legally they cannot do anything to you. starting to paying this old debt will only allow the collector to report to the bureau and have the clock start over again so don't pay a cent!!!!!!

    They are worse than gansters
They purchas debt data base, some outdated and even incorrect, and make calls and bullie people to try their luck. Just ignor them and remember this: do not release ANY infomation to these lowly people when they call. Telus has a service that will track them. After they hang up, you can just dial *57 and their call would be tracked. The police (not you) can have access to this record should you end up having to hand the case over to them. I know of a single mother who lost her husband some 16 years ago and could not pay her Mastercard bill. She had a hard time struggling to get back up on her feet. Here is a message to My Experience Was Great - no one wants to be in debt, have a heart, as I assume that you are not working for those lowly people. I wanted to help this mother and called the bank and the card centre, and was told that there was no record of the account anymore. I called Skylink on her behalf and demand a proof showing that they are the legitimate owner of the account and they could not do that. So far they have changed 4 callers. I called the police and they said they can look into the case if we feel that this is a harassment case. Do not be afraid of these money thirsty people. Do not pay them as they are not legitimate, and you will be wasting your money. Report to the police, and use the *57 phone tracking service.

    They are worse than gansters
[Addition] This is to those who have bad debts of more than 7 years old. In Canada if a man made a mistake, intentionally or unintentionally, and broke the law. He may be say, sentenced to jail for 7 years. If he serves his term for 7 years, he will come out clean and be ready to start a new life. No one can put him back to jail for what he has done 7 years ago. These low lifes from Skylink just pick on the poor people who are suffering, or had suffered some misfortunes, and very likely cannot affort to seek legal advice. I say there is no need to feel guilty anymore, for you have paid your due. You had been sentenced to jail for 7 years - you have lost everything with Credit Bureau. Just pull together and write a new page of your life. You will only have yourself to blame if you allow these people to bully you. Do not hesitate to approach the police. They will even send an officer to your home to listen to your story. They are here to help you, not to give you a hard time. And use the *57 tracking service if you are with Telus. And I am sure other phone companies would have the same service.

[Addition 2] One reminder: DO NOT give away your fax number. When I ask her to provide documents to validate their claim, she asked for my fax number. I said I don't do fax anymore, that I used email attachments and offered to give her my email address. She said they could not do email and wanted the fax number of my work place instead. That tells me a lot: that she has nothing to back up her claim therefore there would be nothing that she can email me. She only wanted my fax numbers so she can continue to harrass me with fax. Be very careful and be alert. We are dealing with low life here, may be not the lowest but low enough.

Skylink sent a letter stating that I owed money to a power company. I do not owe any money! I phoned the company and asked for an outstanding balance and was told I in fact have a healthy credit with the company and was entitled to a cheque or an account credit??? Who out there is selling my personal information to this obviously fake company?  I will be in contact with the RCMP on this matter.

Have had these jerks calling my ex husband of 15 years about a so called debt from 2009 for Zellers who have not been in business in BC for 2 years .  No one seems to know what this debt is for.  The fellow I have dealt with will not devulge his name only a telephone local.  He is areal jerk and threatened to put a black mark on my credit bureau.  I told him to knock himself out.  His reply"I will hound your ex every  30 days until he dies".  My ex had a severe stroke 5 years ago, and these calls really upset him as his speech is badly affected.  Bunch of bully [***] from which I gather buy up old unpaid debts and try to make whatever pittance they can for themselves. So dumb that they don't know how to contact me
Even though my number is listed.

It's Henry Dimawala - he's the manager - they don't care about any of us...their main goal is to get as loud on the phone as possible because apparently yelling at people makes them want to give them our money.  Pathetic.  However, this company is real - work for lots of different clients collecting money on behalf of them.  Nothing a cop can do - it's all legit.  They are just tacky at their approach.

Statue of limitations for Ontario is 2 years. If the debt is older that 2 years and you have not made any payments in the past 2 years they cannot sue you. Send a fax to them and inform them you know the law and they unfortunately bought the wrong file.   It is also law they send the first notification by mail. Do not give them your address.  Chances are they don't have it. These people do not mail anything, they just harass by phone. Do not admit to owning this debt.

I received 4 voice messages from. a Sharon at 1-844-898-2121. When I called back after the 4th.message she ID the company as Skylink financial and wanted to confirm my name and address. When I asked what this was about and who she was working for (her client) she refused any/all information. Accordingly I refused to provide/confirm any personal information and at that point she wished me a good day and hung up.

    1) If they don't send you something I writing first they are breaking the law.

    2) They have a legal obligation to prove you owe the debt.

I get 2 to 3 sets of calls per year from various collection agencies trying to bully me into paying someone else's debt. At this point feel free to file a complaint. It will cost them hundreds of dollars to reply.

Jeff from Skylink has been hounding me for the past 5 weeks concerning an amount I " owe " ( quite substantial apparently ) . This mythical debt was from one or two sources . He's quite vague on details but has assured me I must pay it or behold the consequences .
I asked him to send me the documentation , which he assured me he would . Yet to recieve it. I find this amazing , considering the urgency of the matter from our first conversation .
Jeff is quite belligerent and raises his voice quite alarmingly when I question the validity of the " debt " .
Just ignore these peddlers of misery . All Unknown , Private or 1866 #s should be answered at your own peril. These clowns are no better then Nigerian email scammers !
