Had a message left on my home phone of which we never use or give the number out. The message was for my ex-husband of 8.5 yrs whom has never ever lived here nor has ever been associated with my address or phone number. We aren’t even in the same state! Said it was Fred Thomas of MCOA regarding an “important business matter”. I tried calling back & it said the office was closed after I had to enter my home phone number that they called. There was an option to leave a message. I did not.

Scam, but they're getting smarter.  Said they were returning my call.

Municipal Collections of America. I'm putting 2 and 2 together here on my end with calls from this number for a DIL. I think for out of state parking OR speeding tickets that are unpaid.

Recently, this call for me to pay something. I requested that I want to get translated, they said that they can not do that. I totally don't understand why I need to pay.

Stated there is a speeding ticket of $93 issued in Iowa on December 28th, 2012. The funny thing is the vehicle that they are stating was totaled in an accident in 08 and I left Iowa in 2008. They need to get their facts right.

I called the number back and they identify as the Municipal Collections of America. It is a debt collector. The person they were seeking does not live at my location. They said they would remove my number from the file.

So, if for a ticket for traffic camera, how would they know my work number?

Mrs. Brown from MCOA called my elderly father's cell number (how did they get his number?) and left a voicemail requesting a call back from me. I called the number and a young lady answered. I asked her, "What does MCOA stand for?" She told me she could not give me that information. I told her I was calling back but needed to know what company was calling me. She kept asking for my telephone number, which I told her I would not give until I knew the name of the company. She stated, "I cannot give you that information." So, I hung up on her. What reputable company cannot give you their full name? Scam!

Yes they can, they just can't leave details or say that they are a collector.  Name, number and file number is all they can say on a message.

I received a call from this number stating it was urgent.  When I returned their call and insisted they identified MCOA, they refused and hung up.

It’s for collections for “violations” of speeding(cameras) that are violations of a city ordinance(money making scheme around here) and not a moving violation. Since it’s not a “speeding ticket” as we know it It isn’t a DMV concern -all they can only send you to collections for it-and this is it!

This is a phony scam they call every once in a while!
