- AnonyCalled looking for someone who does not live, nor has ever lived here. Said they needed to discuss a business matter.
- Caller: MCOA
- TW| 1 replyReceived this call from MCOA to discuss important business matter. The company is Marijuanna Company of America. NOT INTERESTED!
- Caller: MCOA
- Call type: Unwanted
- Pudge replies to TWIf you read the posts by Big A from a year ago, you'll find that this call is likely from Municipal Collections of America; a debt collection company that specializes in recovering monies owed for fines or judgements.
- Angie replies to BigA| 2 repliesI don't buy it cause for one it ask for my son who is 12. What 12 yr old has a dept? He does not even have a cellphone or has any access to one. No computer or anything he would be able to use to get on the internet with. I owe no debt so I don't buy what ur saying to all of us. Maybe ur one of the scammers trying to make us believe this is real.. Yeah a 12 yr old with a dept that's a good one..
- BigA replies to AngieI am sure there are other people that have your son's name. They no doubt are phishing for the person that owes them money and they are simply calling every name that looks even close to it. So, I don't really care what you "buy" or don't "buy". I know the calls will continue until you make them stop. By the way, not too many people have a dept which is the abbreviation for department. Most people have debt which is when you owe someone.
Of course the other alternative is what the previous poster said, that it is the Marijuanna Company of America. So take your pick, as either one is looking for someone who has the same name as your son. - B-Edwards replies to AngieBigA is wise and he is right, the calls are likely to continue.
I believe that debt scammers go for similar names as a way to augment confusion and add to the frustration of the 'mark' (that would be you, not your 12 year old kiddo since he probably does not have a credit card or bank account.) You're thinking the crooks know, or care, about a child's age; They don't. They got his name from somewhere and the name is all they need to get underway with threats and harassment. There is no debt, adult or child, the point of the scam is to extort $$ from you for a debt that does not exist.
You would be surprised how easy it is for a scammer to get the names of everyone in a household - if you are on social media, that is a possible leak, for example. - Alexandra| 1 replyI received a voicemail stating: "Hello this message is for Alexander this is Nicole Chandler with MCOA. I need a return call from you today regarding an important matter that requires your immediate attention. I can be reached at 866-251-5130."
After reading the previous posts, I would imagine it's about a camera ticket I received in the mail last year, that I never paid. They will not be called back if it doesn't effect my driving record.- Caller: MCOA
- Call type: Debt collector
- Tygerkat replies to AlexandraWhy don't you just pay the ticket and stop the calls?
- RNgirlIt’s a scam. I called back and it was a recording asking me to enter my ssn. No thanks! First off if it was a camera ticket then that city would send you something. Not have a collections company contact you. Nor would they need your ssn. This is clearly a scam. Be smart people.

- MS. Elliott replies to AllyOMG!! This EXACT situation JUST happened to me!!! I literally called back 3 times and spoke to 3 different ppl that all said "I can't give out the name of the company without you telling me your name" Like WTF?!?! Do you really think I'm about to give you my name and you cant tell me your website or full the name of the company.
- MelCalled around 1:00 pm on 2/11/19. Mentioned a household members name and asked to speak to them. I asked what is the call regarding. They said they could only tell the person that they were asking for. I said you mean to tell me that you can't tell me what you're calling about or where you're calling from. They said correct. I said I guess you'll just have to wait till you get that person. I then hung up. I immediately looked the number up. And now I know it is a collections scam based on info from others as well as it being from MCOA.

- Paul replies to codyCamera speeding ticket are unconstitutional because there is no due process. It is why red light cameras have been taken out of most states. I expect cameras for speeding will eventually be removed.
