- katt replies to RB in Nashville, TNI have been tracking these posts since friday night. Looks like the big culprits are our mortgage companies. I have heard alot from everhome customers and litton loan customers (as I am). I will be contacting litton again tomorrow. they are also using 2 other 866 numbers associated with these fraud checks. They are stealing our money dont fax them anymore info.
- IreneGot hit for 26.95 on August 18th. Everhome was my mortgage holder until they recently sold it to Wells Fargo. Contacted Bank and filed fraud report. Waiting to hear from them
- DebDGoodman Group withdrew $35.95 from my checking acct. I have no idea how they got us. The weird part is it was in my husbands name and he never does anything online. But he did contact Dish network that day to get satellite dish service, I don't know if it is related. I filed a written statement of unauthorized debt with my credit union, they said they would block the transaction and return the money. I took the advice of lawman and filed a complaint with the FBI link. Tomorrow I am taking what I learned here to my credit union because they were not aware of this scam. Thank you for your help!
- RB in Nashville replies to From FloridaOur bank account info can be stolen right off of a paper check that we write ourselves if we are using to pay someone who could be dishonest or someone who may have a staff member or family member who is dishonest and a thief. I wonder if it's safer to pay contractors with a money order or cashier's check rather than pay them with a check containing our signature and bank account number?
- RB in NashvilleIt may be a good idea for all us victims to add a "FRAUD ALERT" to our CREDIT REPORTS to prevent anyone else from obtaining credit using our identities. To do this, I read about the free credit report authorized by the Fed at http://www.ftc.gov/freereports and clicked on their link to http://AnnualCreditReport.com . On the AnnualCreditReport site, at the top-right corner I clicked on "FRAUD ALERT" which takes us to the below which is quoted below. I ended up reporting the fraud to credit agency Experian at http://www.experian.com/fraud who are going to report it for me to the other two credit agencies automatically.
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/helpfaq#fraudalert
"How do I request a "fraud alert" be placed on my file?
You have the right to ask that nationwide consumer credit reporting companies place "fraud alerts" in your file to let potential creditors and others know that you may be a victim of identity theft. A fraud alert can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you. It also may delay your ability to obtain credit. You may place a fraud alert in your file by calling just one of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies. As soon as that agency processes your fraud alert, it will notify the other two, which then also must place fraud alerts in your file.
Equifax: 1-877-576-5734; http://www.alerts.equifax.com
Experian: 1-888-397-3742; http://www.experian.com/fraud
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289; http://www.transunion.com
An initial fraud alert stays in your file for at least 90 days. An extended alert stays in your file for seven years. To place either of these alerts, a consumer credit reporting company will require you to provide appropriate proof of your identity, which may include your Social Security number. If you ask for an extended alert, you will have to provide an identity theft report. An identity theft report includes a copy of a report you have filed with a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency. For more detailed information about the identity theft report, visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/." - AceI also have Everhome and usually do check by phone. My bank in Massachusetts is "checking" into this for me but won't guarantee a refund unless they get the money back from the "Goodman Group" .Yeah Right! Same deal here 26.95 on 8/26.Right name wrong address on electronic check (Orange Bank ,Lewiston,ME appeared on image)
- RB in Nashville replies to lametI think we have to omit the "www" in order for the weblink to work otherwise I get a blank page.
http://ots.gov/ - RB replies to CNYou should ask your bank to send the check back as a forgery and sign an AFFIDAVIT OF FORGERY so you are not charged and silly "stop-payment" fee. They should credit you back any stop-payment fee if they already charged it.
- RB| 1 replyLook what I found out about F.I.S., Fidelity Information Services (used by EverHome Mortgage and many other companies?). In 2007, it sounds like from this letter at the PDF link below that they accidentally released data like account numbers and social security numbers of HSBC Mortgage customers. I think HSBC owns GM Mastercard, by the way. Could another mishap like that have happened again?!!
http://doj.nh.gov/consumer/pdf/fidelity3.pdf - RBHere's more info on F.I.S. quoted from the link below. Note that FIS "software processes nearly 50 percent of all U.S. residential mortgages ...". Just thought others may find this interesting in case it is related to our issue.

- ElisabWe're all pretty good detectives! I traced it to Everhome (my mortgage company) because the unique spelling of my husband's name on the mortgage is the only on the Everhome mortgage. My name does not appear on the mortgage. I spoke to Everhome and they use ACH (automated clearinghouse) transactions (like Fidelity). A name, routing number and account number is all that is needed to accomplish ACH fraud. You can google it and you will see. That's why the addresses are all wrong (but they are in the right state). My check was also endorsed to an account at Regions Bank with the account # 062000019 in Hoover, AL
Now that I am fearing all ACH transactions (Fidelity is only ONE of them), Chase (my other bank) gave me a good idea. If you have direct deposit, you can use their "bill pay" for free. To pay a bill, Chase removes the money from your account and pays the bill using their account, so your account is never exposed.
Regions Bank themselves are losers. Read this: http://www.badregions.com/

I changed passwords, have firewalls, scan nightly for trojans and viruses, have Microsoft Essentials running all the time, clear my cache and all those good things and THIS still happened, but this time it was from an ACH and my mortgage company (Everhome).- Caller: Goodman Group
- JoeWOW, I got hit for $35.95 by this Goodman Group too. I pay my morgtage to EverHome Mortgage (EverBank) too!! I just paid them again with my "New Account", I hope I don't get hit again!! I can't believe the banks and government can't get these guys!!
- TaffyI reported this to Everhome Mortgage yesterday via their fax line. Requested that they verify that no information breach was commited by them and/or one of companies that process payments on their behalf. Haven't heard anything yet. Referenced this site, my complaint with the FIB, and also my tracking complaint number with Regions Bank.

- Taffy replies to Zoey| 2 repliesDo you bank with Lake Trust? I'm here in Michigan too. They had my husband's name, wrong address, but what was interesting is when I first started looking at this I ran a reverse search on the address listed on the check and found out it was a legitimate address. I printed out that info which showed the persons name and the address that was listed on the 'check'. When Lake Trust ran the name, those persons also had an account with Lake Trust. They did that initially thinking maybe those people actually authorized a payment and somehow our account numbers were so close that somebody just transposed numbers. No such luck.
