- Jenna replies to EddieDid you place an order on Macys.com?
- BonnieI received a call that I had purchased a Macy's gift card. They wanted my address and they also told me the last digits of my credit card. I cancelled my card.
- Caller: Consumer fraud division of Macy's
- Thankful replies to bar| 1 replyI received a call from this # and they left a message stating that an order was placed and they wanted to confirm it was actually me who placed the online order for Bloomingdales.com and left me the order # to reference when I called back. I called the # and was very hesitant to give any info. They asked for minimal info. My home address type of info. They told me a purchase for $969.25 had been placed on my credit card. They had my true billing address but the shipping address was not me. They gave me the last 4 digits of my card # (which was accurate). I told them that I would take it up with my credit card company as I was still skeptical. As it turns out there was another fraudulent charge the day earlier both for Bloomingdales.com. I cancelled my card and thanked Bloomingdales for alerting me to this issue so quickly! It was NOT a FAKE call and I am very happy I did not ignore the message in the first place. I recommend taking this seriously but only work with your credit card company in regards to giving out personal info.
- AlainaI recived a message from someone Claiming to be from Macy's.com's credit billing department. The caller stated that the were verifying an order that was made on the morning of 11/12/11. I know for a fact that I didn't place such and order. The caller left an order number. When I typed in the number in the Macy's.com order tracker, the I found out there was no such order number in the records. I tried to call the number only to find out that the number had been disconnected. I made a purchase about a month ago on Macy's.com using a gift card. I am really annoyed by this. Very unprofessional. I am glad I don't have a credit card with this store, and it will be awhile before I shop there again.

- JohnIt's a valid number. The company is Macy's and they call to verify that ordered placed using your address/credit card were actually placed by you.
They called from phone number 513-398-5221 and left a voice mail for me to call back at 1-866-282-8977 and gave me a reference number.
When I called the toll-free number, I gave a lady my reference number. She explained they are the fraud division and wanted to confirm I placed the order. Only thing lady asked me was for my first and last name.
Macy's is being pro-active about stopping fraud. So be happy people and stop whining.- Caller: Macy's
- JohnAlso, they call regardless of whether you have a Macy's card or not ! If someone placed an order using your information and Macy's think the orders are suspicious, they will call.
I placed two orders online at macys.com using an American Express card. So I received two calls asking me to confirm I placed the orders.- Caller: Macy's
- VirginiaYou should be happy a company cares to call you in regards to something that seems suspicious. The number you're given I was told is not an order number but an internal number when you call back in. Hopefully nobody frauds you and you think they're unprofessional by checking into it.

- bt1911Received a call from a different number who said they were from Macy's and should call the 866 number and verify some info on an order placed today. As I did place an online order for a gift card, I called the 866 number who said they just needed to know if I actually placed the order as their gift cards are easily obtained by other electronic means. I just told them that I did place the order and that was it. They didn't ask for anything other than my name.

These people called about an order I placed at Macy's.com, but they didn't give specifics in the message. When I called they just wanted to verify details about my order and that I had ordered the item. They are a fraud protection agency of sorts. Never had a call like this from the other dept. stores, or even Bloomingdale's.com orders so I was rather surprised. - JulieI had placed an order online with Macy's. They called and left a message for me to call back and verify the order, with a reference number. I didn't get the message until later in the day and they had already canceled my order since I hadn't called back. When I did call later, they said they do this to verify any order that has a different ship to address than the billing address. They reinstated my order quickly and all is fine, it's just a check to prevent fraud.

- elliot378Yes, this number is from Macys.com and they were the only online merchant that verified an order that was for $76 among 15 other merchants that a thief charged on my account.
I give macy's a 10 star positive review for this action and it saved me and my credit card company over $3000 that was billed but not ship because we caught it early. Thank You Macys.- Caller: Macys.com Fraudelent dept
- Consumer AdvocateIf you get such a call, contact your credit card company. Since there were too many suspicious aspects to the initial contact and information they would give me when I called them back, I contacted my credit card folks. Sure enough, there was a charge for $75 from "Bloomingdales" (never shopped there in my life) and another charge for $75 for a "gift certificate," also bogus. My card was cancelled immediately, a new one to be sent out the next day. When in ANY doubt, contact your credit card company immediately.

- Jim replies to Jay| 1 replyIt's a legit number. Bloomingdale's called to verify an order I didn't place. Credit Card number was stolen. They were very professional and asked minimal personal questions.
- Lou replies to JimThey called and left a message at 7 am asking me to return the call. I called back before 9 am and I got a message saying the fraud protectin office was closed. I did place an order from Bloomingdales.com the night before. Thanks to all the messages on this board, I'll give them the minimum info when they call back - hopefully not at 2 am.
- DSThis is a legitimate number. Its a call from Macys store. They did not ask any information. They just want to verify if the order we placed is correct or not.
- Anna| 1 replyMy mom had some issues with someone using her Macy's card to purchase items. She cancelled the card, got a new one, and a few months later the same thing happened. She cancelled card and tried sgain. After the third time she cancelled for good. She ended up paying around $100 total in fees and received a letter that read that they would investigate the purchases and her. This was very disconcerting to her as she is old and doesn't have a lot of energy. She also said that she received calls from Macy's from people who barely spoke English and weren't very professional. I'm not sure if that is American outsourcing or bogus customer service. I'm strongly thinking of cancelling my card.

- Cathy DFraud unit from Macys calling to confirm shipping address and that I placed order from online order from yesterday.
- SherryI received a call from 513-398-5221 and a voicemail asking me to call 1-866-282-8977 the next day at 12 noon EST. That sounded VERY suspicious, like I was given an appointment time to return a call. I checked the first number online and saw that it was associated with Macy's in Ohio so I called the second number immediately. They identified themselves as the fraud unit and wanted me to verify that I had made a large purchase online earlier that day. They only asked me to verify the shipping address, because it was different than the billing address. Having verified the information, I was then told that they would release my order for shipment. It also may have been related to my use of my AMEX card. A couple of years ago, a fraudulent $2,000 computer purchase was made on it that, thankfully, was caught immediately. I appreciate the extra caution on the part of these companies.

- Rich replies to JayExactly the same thing happened to me. I did verify with my credit union that a charge was attempted. Of course, I canceled my credit card.
- YOUR CREDIT IS NOT SAFE HERE! replies to AnnaI have only had this card for a few months and it was NOT because I needed the credit. While trying to purchase a $25 gift card online, the next day it was canceled. I thought I entered the recipient's email address incorrectly, so I tried again. Again canceled. One more time and they canceled again, and this time I KNEW I had it correct! They said they needed me to answer some questions for "extra security"- they asked me 1) WHAT WAS THE CURRENT LOCATION OF MY EX-HUSBAND'S OLDEST SON---WHAT????? I HAVE BEEN DIVORCED FOR 5 YEARS AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM OR ANY OF HIS RELATIVES!!! I FLAT-OUT REFUSED TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION, EVEN THOUGH THE FOREIGN-SPEAKING CLERK APOLOGIZED FOR IT BEING "UNCOMFORTABLE" FOR ME. THE HELL WITH UNCOMFORTABLE--THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE, UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL! She then asked me what colleges I have graduated from and when, and when I purchased my last home. After speaking to 2 more people, the collections supervisor 'cross-trained for customer service' person named Sophia ADMITTED they subcontract a company to select random "security questions" from "public databases" such as Intelius and PeopleFinders. These types of sites are KNOWN to be fraught with ERRORS! THIS IS THEIR ANSWER TO SECURITY?? I CANCELED immediately and encourage others to do so also, due to such shoddy, inappropriate and adolescent business practices! YOUR CREDIT IS NOT SAFE HERE!
