I was told to call this number regarding a reference # for a cancelled order. I hadn't ordered anything. They called themselves the Consumer Protection Agency -total scam

The shopping of e-gift card from macy's is ridiculous. After I placed my order, I received a voicemail the second day saying I need to call the "consumer protection" 8662828977 in order to get the order processed. While the "consumer protection" says she will generate an "automatic passcode" onto my registered phone and I need to read the passcode to her to verify that the phone is mine. This is ridiculous because: 1. Why do I need to verify the phone? I paid the e-gift card online and the card should be sent to the designated email address. 2. It looks like a fraud -- if someone want to change the designated email address, maybe macy's needs to send some passcode to the registered phone to confirm the change, so if the fraud get the passcode, she/he can get the gift card and I lost my money. Therefore, I cancelled my order. Maybe this number is not fraud, but I will not consider buying the Macy's e-gift card again.

it was so "legit" that you decided to look up the number anyway, even though you know who called you, and then on top of that, you decided to tell someone who posted here 9 years ago what you found out today?  I can tell you this, if I ever get a call from this number, thanks to you I know it is a scummy crook calling.

Received vmm  from 513-398-5221 asking for return call regarding an order I placed with Macys.  I checked my online Macys account and found an order was placed for a $40 gift card, which I hadn't ordered & I cancelled immediately.  Message instructed me to call 866-282-8977, which I did.  Macys card was cancelled. I would NOT ignore a call from this company!

I was really unsure about this phone call at first.  A female named Keisha called me and left a message stating that I needed to give them a call back as they needed more information on my order before they could ship it out.  She then provided me with a Referance and phone number and stated that I needed to call back the next day before 8pm.

I called back as I didn't have any purchases for Macy's currently.  And if it was someone phishing for info I could handle them just fine.  IT WAS A GOOD THING I DID!!  Turns out someone was trying to use my Macy's American Express Card to get a Macy's Gift Card in the amount of $275.00!!  Rep voided the transaction, cancelled my card and my new card is on its way.  Glad I was prompt in calling:)

The Customer Service Rep at the Macy's Fraud Center already knew my information and this caller is legit!  BE SURE TO CALL ASAP!!

THis number left a message from someone named 'AL' from Macey's verifying my address for my purchase & left a reference#. I called back and a woman answered  named Anna. she asked for my ref#. I had given her a wrong #from another store. I thought was the same store. She couldn't find it and looked up under my name. She verified a watch for $200 + . I stopped her right there and said that is not me. She asked for my 4 digit social. I wouldn't give it. I told her I wanted to speak to the fraud dept. She said she was the fraud dept. I asked how? I thought it was strange the fraud dept. was handling the shipping. It did not seem right. So I hung up and called Macey's direct and spoke to the fraud dept. They cancelled my card for me.

Got a message to 866-282-8977. Said they were Macy's customer fraud department. Turns out someone got my CC # and had made 3 online purchases at Macy's. It sounded like a scam, but they were legit.

I was also skeptical when  i received the call from 513-398-5221 telling me to call back to  866-282-8977, but, after reading all the posts here, i did call into that toll free #.  It was Macy's consumer protection, there was an unauthorized purchase made on my CC.  I had already canceled my card, and she verified that a bogus email address and shipping address were used.  So, she blocked those two bogus things, along with my CC (which was already deactivated) and ended the call.  Very professional, and Quick.

Fake Macy's c/s number. Goan email asking me to call it to verify a recent Macy's order. Instead I called Macy's ACTUAL c/s number which is nearly identical at 1-***800***-282-8977 only to find out that a fraudulent order had been placed using my card. Do not call this number!

This is a legitimate call from Macy's fraud department.  I shop at Macy's online all the time, and received this call about an online order.  I assumed it was a scam, so I took down the reference number in the voicemail and called the number on the back of my Macy's card.  Turns out someone was trying to purchase 6 sticks of expensive deodorant on my card - not me!  They called because the billing and shipping info didn't match mine.  They were able to cancel my card and I've since changed my online password.  Very happy they caught this and let me know!

I got the same email.  I've been purchasing items with Macy's on-line for a decade.  This is the first call.  The rep told me to confirm my name.  I did.  Confirm email.  I did.  Confirm phone number.  I did.  Fifteen minutes later, she tells me she was unable to confirm my phone number.  I couldn't believe it.  Four layers of security for a ten+ year customer who has purchased many thousands of dollars at Macy's online.  I told her to cancel the order.  What a joke.

Never received a call. My order was cancelled with Macy's, because they could not verify my phone number.  Lost my Macy's Money because it expired at midnight the day of the order.  All I got from Macy's or The Consumer Protection team was "sorry"!! I will never shop through Macy's Online Department again.  Very very unprofessional!

I received a call at 9:14 AM today (June 26, 2017) which woke me up.  Didn't catch the call and didn't recognize the number so they left a message.  It came from 513 number shown in many replies above and to the same 866 number.  They left a 12 digit order number to verify a purchase.  I immediately found your site on the internet.  She informed me of a $989.41 phone order for men's accessories.  I informed her I didn't make the order, and she seemed quite su.rprised.  So they must be verifying A LOT of orders many of which are legit.  It was placed on my Macy's card, and I had no problem knowing it wasn't my order as the last time I used it was before Christmas and September (birthday) of which both were under $100. Hmmmm wonder if they notify the police. It was being sent to an address in the same state I live.  I am returning the favor of reporting my incident here as I am thankful that previous people did so.  Hopefully my response will help another.  I am thankful it wasn't my bank credit cards.

I had gotten a text that my Visa card was used at Macys.com and I knew that wasn't true.  So I called my bank right away and cancelled my card.  I got this call 2 days later to confirm an order.  I called them back and verified some basic information and this is something Macy's does to verify an order before sending it to make sure it wasn't a fraudulent order.  This is legit and glad they do this and was able to make sure the thieves weren't able to get anything they bought with my stolen credit card.

I got a call from 513-398-5221 stating they were from Macy's and they were calling about an order I placed. I hadn't placed an order through Macy's or Macys.com ever, but I decided to call anyways. The Macy's call was legit, an order I placed through a web store was involved in a eBay like scam and had placed an order through Macy's in my name, using someone else's stolen card. The rep at this number was able to cancel the order and Paypal informed me that there have been multiple complaints against the account I made the payment to.
