Been getting called by this # up to 4-6 times a day. Answered the first few times, nobody there. One time I answered and a man asked for "Melanie" and told him it was the wrong # and we hung up. This # has called my tracfone many times after that, each time I ignore and cancel the call. Getting very frustrating!

Be advise that under the law, you are not required to contact them. Also, if your debt is more than 7 years old, they cannot take any legal action against you, UNLESS, you respond to their calls or mail. Once you respond, your old debt becomes activated under the law and remains viable for collection process for up to 3 years. That's why they will offer you discounts, special arrangements, etc. in their attempt to entice you into activating the legal requirements. Also, because they purchased your old debt and usually only want their share of profit to be paid for closure. Your original debtor sold this account long ago. See [Codified to 15 U.S.C. 1692c] Section 805 & 806 as well as seek legal advise.

I didn't recieve a call from them, but did call them to inform them that many many years ago (15 yrs) that my neice stole my personal Info and probably opened this account useing my info...And I also told them I WAS NOT going to pay it...She noted what I had said to her and told me I'm legally responsible for it since the last 4 digits of my SS# matched...Now what do I do...Does by calling them mean I have to pay it now ... Is the account opened again...When I got this I knew it was not my debt and that it was someone else's but it was my personal info...what should I do...Does anyone have an answer to my question ?

what do you mean you don't have to contact them.  What do you know about when they have a lawyer contact you but the lawyer says they have not been hired by them to sue yet?

This # has called my office 2 times today and at least once in the past. I just pick up and hang up. I do not know who it is or what they want. All I know is that "Toll Free Call" is always a do not answer call for me.

Love the fact that my call blocker can hang up on callers based on their name or any portion of it.  As well as numbers, area codes, and has both a white and black list so it pretty much ignores everyone except the people and companies I really do business with.  Plus it logs all entries with date and time and allows searches for repeat offenders.

Be advised that the term limit starts after the last payment and that if you make a payment after
the statute of limitations is over the term starts again.

If you are contacted after the statute has expired simply ask "Do I have a contract with you or your company"
(Your contract is with whoever originally serviced the debt, not whoever purchased the debt). You
have the right to tell them not to call you anymore.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Hilarious!  They call me, tell me they are recording the call, do not identify their company, and want ME to give them the last 4 of my SS#?  WTF?  Yeah, right!  HAHAHA!  Who the eff do these people think they are?

in PA, the statute of limitations is 4 years and they can not collect..however, my boyfriend got sued for one credit card and hired lawyer and they could not prove it was his debt

Doesn't look like either one of you has a clue about the law.
