- Lesleii replies to munchkinIt IS NSLSC Repayment Assistance. I double checked with National Student Loans at their official number 1 888 815-4514. Not to worry.
- StudentYes the number is legit. They were verifying that the contract was ok. I called the main line at the beginning of the month because I got an email telling me to call 866 303 3503. The main line told me that is pre-consolidation and not to worry. The people at the 866 number even told me i called the main line and spoke to someone about the email. Plus when they asked to verify my banking info i told her to read the numbers off. Matched what i sent them in the mail. So not a scam in any way. They had all my info and read it off to me to verify not the other way around

Total scam!- Caller: Student loan
- RabbitNBHad a message from this number today asking me to call back but giving no information as to why. My student loan is about to go into repayment, but they've never phoned me before so I'm just going to ignore it and do the paperwork the usual way.
- RabbitNBForgot to say: They did not ask for me by name, which also arouses my suspicion. Any member of the household might have called them back, which entirely undermines confidentiality and reeks of phishing.
- Dav| 1 replyI got a call from this number, said from NSL, I owned a student loan but no income to pay yet, I graduated this May, hasn't find a job yet, what can I do ??

- Rabbit NB replies to DavGo to the National Student Loans website. You can apply for the Repayment Assistance Plan online. It takes only a few minutes, and they process it within a few days. Depending on your income, you may be asked to pay a reduced amount or may not have to pay anything at all. Each application for Repayment Assistance is valid for six months and then you have to reapply if you still can't pay. You can get up to five years of Repayment Assistance without it affecting your entitlement to further student loans; after that, you would have to pay off everything outstanding on your current loan before you could get another (but if you're done with school, that's not a problem anyway!).

- Galee Khau| 1 replyI just received a phone call by this number. It was automated and they stated their hours and location of office in Mississauga, Ontario. It sounded very legitimate, but I was skeptical and decided to cross-check the number of NSLSC's phone number which doesn't seem to match.

- KugeI received an email from whom claim to be NSLSC, which tells me to call back to this number, my first thought was obvious, look it up, and I found a lot of people are having the problem. So my suggestion is, as it is exactly what I did, to call the official number to confirm, if you don't have a student loan what so ever, just ignore it, if you do have a student loan, your initial package must have the official contact number somewhere written. The customer service lady did not entirely confirm this is the NSLSC number, but that's because she was not sure which number these guys use to call either, but there was an important message for me at the end. It is mostly likely the real number, but I reckon you guys to check anyway.
- Caller: Very possibly NSLSC themselves
- Call type: Event reminder
- Ivy replies to Galee KhauJust check with the number the official nslsc provided, speak with them. It might be legitimate.
- Andrea replies to Eth| 1 replyI had the same call and I talk to them and what they s’aide to me was something I already knew they where calling me to tell me that my 6 months free after school is almost over and That I had to pay or go on the student loan site to prove that I’m still a student and I’ve verified the number and it’s on the site of student loans
- MikeHuntleton replies to Andrea
A simple web search can verify this is National Student Loans Service Centre's Pre-Consolidation Contact Number, found on the bottom of their page. Your 'story' of a legitimate call can't serve as a reassurance others will receive a legitimate call from this number, like yours.Quote:I already knew they where calling me to tell me...
.... I’ve verified the number and it’s on the site of student loans
Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to try fooling people into giving them money or personal info they will use to try stealing their money with. No one can confirm that someone else's caller is or will be legitimate, you can only tell them how they can find out.
Never trust a caller to be who they claim, always call from an official number to verify if they did call. - AnonymousIt is a legitimate number used by NSLSC - it is their pre-consolidation number. I just got off the phone with a representative from their official number at 1-888-815-4514. Now, as to why they decide to use a brand new contact email instead of their NSLSC Information Service email is beyond me, and it sets them up for A LOT of confusion and paranoia.
When in doubt, call through their official number first, and ask a representative to confirm the number. It's annoying that the number is extremely difficult to locate, but having different email templates is even more sketchy.- Caller: NSLSC
- studentreceived the call twice, they left a MSG mentioning that they are from national student loan and wanted me to call back on 866 303 3503
- Shehryar replies to fredI verified it through Student loans main number. The lady said it's their internal department number.
- CBAGot a call from 647-943-3467, one today and one yesterday around the same time in the afternoon, telling me to call this number.
The message was automated and included a robotical reading of my name. It gave the mailing address of NSLSC and their operating hours in Eastern Standard Time. They told me there was "important information regarding your student loan account" and to call 1-866-303-5303.
It is not possible to verify with a government website now, November 2019, if the number is related to the NSLSC. The "canlearn" website is no longer active. There are 3rd party websites, such as educational organizations and student loan information websites, saying this is the number for "Pre-Consolidation" for student loans. However, there are NO government websites that list this number. In my experience, though, it IS the NSLSC Customer Service line.
I have an email from June 2017 from the NSLSC that includes the number, and the email was sent at a time when my loan was scheduled to go into repayment and I was awaiting that paper package with the contract for repayment. The message in the email is almost identical to the automated one I received now. When I called the number back then, it was simply to let me know that I should be expecting the package and that I can now apply for Repayment Assistance Plan, as well as other information about going into repayment. Now, in November 2019, I have been approved for the Repayment Assistance Plan (I was notified on November 3).
I called the number back today (November 8) and it started with an automated voice saying it's the NSLSC Customer Service and to pick a language. I was then greeted with some breezy 80s "hold" music for a few seconds, and then an operator asked for my personal information (loan number, first and last name, date of birth, phone number, mailing address). They then asked if it was a good time to go over repayment options, at which point I mentioned that I was already approved for the RAP. The operator was sympathetic, saying they could see I was approved for X amount--THIS IS ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THE NUMBER IS THE NATIONAL STUDENT LOANS SERVICE CENTRE (NSLSC) CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE. They verified the RAP monthly amount and when it was approved, which is impossible for a stranger to know.
The operator then asked if I still wanted to go over the options--this isn't my first time being "In Repayment" so I said no. The operator also said I would be removed from the calling list.- Caller: NSLSC

- Rahul| 1 replyI had a voicemail asking me to call back immediately. I'm afraid I did call back and give them my personal information. Am I one of those gullible victims of identity theft? I did try to call on 1-888-815-4514, but only got a series of automated options, none of which would allow me to speak to an actual person. Any advise on next steps would be greatly appreciated.
