- persistentyou have to stay on these people. Call them every day like I did. They refunded my mom's money. Make a police report, call the Federal Trade Commission.(FTC) Do the research. Trevor, Lena, Rob...I've talked to them all.
Then stop all automatic deposits and withdrawals from the bank account. Get a different bank account. Monitor, monitor, monitor. Change banks if you have to.
I talked to the FTC and filed a report. This was their advice. - RRMI too am very familiar with this scam. I was shocked to see how similar my story was to all of yours and reached out to some people and came across someone who has been very helpful and knowledgeable pertaining to this fraud. You can reach out to him at 516-932-3235. Tell him your story and we will all see where it goes from there.
- donnaWhat a horrible scam to elderly folks. This happened to my dad in June 2011 (from NC). His bank is trying to help him. MYBEN drafted his account for $447.35. They called him and identified as part of Medicare benefits and needed to verify his checking account number. The phone number 1-866-304-2401 goes to 3rd Party. My dad is almost 80 and doesnt always understand. I am furious that this kind of scam is going on across the country and nothing is being done by our federal trade commission to stop this. Everyone needs to write letters to your state governor, insurance commissioner, attorney general, state representatives. There has to be some law that can get to these people - even though they obviously operate out of Canada and one step from US laws.

- RRMDonna, please contact the gentleman at the phone number I posted above - (516) 932-3235, I spoke to him about this matter and he is very knowledgeable concerning the scam.

This is a warning to all who receive Medicare. You may receive a phone call from a person identifying them self as a Medicare representative. The individual will already have your bank account information and ask you to verify your bank name. The company, Inter Ben, will then charge your bank $446.44.
If you receive a phone call from someone identifying themselves, as a Medicare, Supplemental Medicare Insurance, or even a Medical Discount Card company representative. Contact your local Police Department and Bank. Next file a complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice.
You will need to pursue this with your bank and the police. It has already happened to thousands of seniors.- Caller: Inter Ben

- Proacitve KateTheir is a 60 day window to return unauthorized electronic drafts. Your bank should have an "Affidavit of Unauthoirzed Paper Draft" to be signed by you and notarized. The bank can return this item within 60 days of posting as an unauthorized item. It may be extra work outside the norm of processing returns but they should do it for you.
The banks that have these questionable accounts should and can be held responsible. There is a banking regulation that requires them to know their customer. They should be asking quesitons and reviewing accounts that process this type of document.
I would first contact an operations officer and if you are not satisfied keep moving up the ladder. If you do not get satisfaction call the FDIC, OCC, CUNA (Governing regulatory body) and report this as a violation. We should not let the big banks and these fraudsters off the hook. I am partial to my community bank. They take care of their customers. They all my not be experts....but they still have the resources to find you the answer.- Caller: CBS now Wind Card Benefits

- Proacitve KateIf the transactions is an ACH transaction you have 60 days of posting to your account to contact your bank, sign an affidavit stating the transaction was unauthorized with a signed documentation of when you called, who you talked to and the date. Once this is returned as an unauthorized item the company, per regulation, is not allowed to run it through the system again. Request a copy of the signed affidavit for your records in case the transaction comes through your account again.
There must be a copy of a written authorization for a transaction coded as ppd (personal account-NOT business) Your bank can request a copy of the written authorization as if the transaction is more than 60 days old. The originating bank must provide this copy within 10 days of your bank's request. An originating bank (Bank that has the account that processes your unauthorized transaction) is ultimately liable but it will take time and effort to collect. Your bank should handle that for you.
60 days is acutal # of days not business days. Help your bank by doing your part by reviewing all of your transactions in a timely manner.
Very important to view your transactions on a daily basis if you have the capability.
PAPER DRAFTS
There are fraudsters that are processing paper drafts without authorization. This has a 60 day return window also. A affidavit must be signed. If the check is not returned within the 60 day window you may be out the money. Your bank should not be held liable since they do not know what you do or do not authorize.

- KarenSame scenario... My 88 year old mother received a call from SASMED who said they were calling about her insurance and wanted to verify her bank information. Then an electronic transfer of $499 appeared on her bank account. I called the phone number on the electronic check to find out what it was for. I was informed that this was a "discount medical program", which my mother did not need, and I immediately cancelled this so-called program. I have been trying to get a refund since July with no response from the company nor would the third party release their direct phone number. I was told that a refund was requested but not yet authorized for processing. Have written to ask for refund, and letters have been sent to the FL and NY Attorney Generals, AARP, Senior vs. Crime, NY Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection, Call for Action, Better Business Bureau Inc., Federal Trade Commission, FL Dept of Children and Families Abuse Registry, National Do Not Call Registry and even the local Police Dept. As of today, December 19, not one of these agencies have been able to get SASMED to respond.

- chatty replies to TonyP| 1 replyMy mom has never been on a computer or any search engine. They called and knew you bank account info. Would love to know how they got that.
- Chatty replies to chattyThat is they know her bank account information. I am so upset about this. My mom had open heart surgery but before she went into the hospital she was scammed out of more than the amount of her Social Security check. First someone stole her credit card number and charged over $800 and then these people for over $400. My mom did not survive the open heart surgery but one last thing I can do for her is to hunt these people down and bring them to justice.
- Susan replies to Katherine JonesDid you ever receive your refund? I just keep being told the refund is coming and to call again next week. I am waiting for the refund for 4 months now.
- RichardAltCharge debited my account in the amount of $84.80 on 9/4/12, on behalf of a merchant that neither delivered the product nor responded to phone or email contact attempts by myself or AltCharge.
Approximately three weeks ago, AltCharge advised me by phone that they would process a refund to me, and to call back in a week to check on the status. Since that time, I have called more than 40 times, but have been unable to get through to a CSR.
After varying times on hold, I eventually get to "First in Line," and then hear a recording that the person at that the "person at extension 1101 is unavailable." Personally, I think they're just blackholing my phone number when I call, and that they have no intention of processing the refund.
AltCharge is the processor of last resort for scumbag merchants that no reputable processor will deal with. If the merchant doesn't deliver, AltCharge will do NOTHING to help you get your money back.
Do yourself a favor: If a merchant wants you to pay them through AltCharge, RUN as fast as you can.
