My mother and father are in their 80's and were scammed the same way by a company called SMG (Secure Med Group).  Third party call number said it would be refunded in 21 days also.  They drafted 387.00 from my parents in May, 2011.  It was done by automated draft and it seems to be that the banks should also take some responsibilities for these drafts because it is unauthorized.  We have no idea how the "scummers" got their bank account number.

My 70 year old mother was just scammed by this group yesterday!!  Represented themselves as My Ben and got hold of the credit card # over the phone.  My mother thought this was a legitimate medical benefits company and unfortunately gave her information out.  I called the customer service number to demand the money be returned.  Spoke with Rob (most likely not his name) he refused to give me his last name but gave me some bs ID number.  The phone number I was given and called was 866-304-2401. My mother was taken for $447.35 and hopefully the bank will cover this under their fraud policy.

After reading the posts, it seems this disreputable company(ies) made a sweep during July.  My father has been hit by them 3 other times and had to close his accounts.  Now his new account was hit.  I called the "3rd Party customer service" rep who was arrogant and told me to have a nicer relative call back since it was evident I did not really care about my father.  All I asked was simply what is the charge for, who authorized it. It was an e-check to MLS and the rep said it was Millenium consumer advocate protection.  He said their contract prevented them from providing address or phone information.  Mid July my dad received a call that I took from a fast-talker who said they were not a sales call and were calling about fraud protection.  I certainly did not provide any info and when I asked questions, the man said he would call back when a nicer person was available.  My dad is very old and could have provided a caller with his information but he swears he did not.  I've been wondering if his health alert company has betrayed him by providing his bank details because they are the only ones who have it and they insisted they had to do automatic withdrawals monthly. Hmmm.  The bank is unsympathetic and says they cannot flag these types of e-checks.  They recommend opening up yet his 4th new account.  Ridiculous. I plan to contact the Attorney General because this needs serious attention.

Yes, this company is a scam and preys upon the elderly to steal their money! I call and spoke to a Trevor ID# 183 to see if I could speak to a Karen Bennet with SASMED that fraudulently took money on of her checking account. He said that he works for a company Called Third Party. He was very Shady, combative and rude.

Please If you have been scammed by this company  FILE A POLICE REPORT AND CONTACT YOUR CLOSEST FBI OFFICE http://www.fbi.gov/contact-us and  Secret service agency  http://www.secretservice.gov/opportunities.shtml  REPORT THEM and give all the information that you have on them. These people and I say people with a sick feeling in my stomach...need to be stopped!

This company fraudulently drafted $447.35 from my parents' bank account on 8/3/11.  When we called 866-304-2401 they identified themselves as a 3rd party service for a medical package to save on prescription drugs.  They are criminals, and need to be arrested!

My 91 yr old mother had an unauthorized electronic check hit her bank account on July 22,2011 in the amount of $387.00.  In reading other posts it looks like this is a popular amount.  Fortunately, the bank called my mother right away and returned the as "Altered/Fictious" so no money was actually taken out of her account.  The bank opened a new account for her and said they will be on the look out for similar activity in the future.  My Mom was fortunate this time.   Earlier this year she was hit by a scam too that could have been more than $850.  Luckily she called the bank after a call that seemed suspicious to her and was able to block the charges.

This happened in July to my 91 year old father...I am furious.  He claims he did not authorize the $399 that was written against his account.  My first call was answered by "3rd party" but due to the pressing nature of my questions, all follow-up calls go right to a recording that the office is closed. Why are banks making unauthorized payments and why are these frauds allowed to gete away with this?

The company name on my Dad's check was SASMED.  Same MO...calls go to "Third party customer service" until you press the issue and then your phone calls go unanswered.  Lowest of low...preying on the elderly.

My 86 year old mother checking account was hit for 447.35 in Florida by MYBEN on 7/29/11.  Am pursuing closing the account and making reports to the New York Attorney General and the local police chief.  No account information was given over the phone. When I called the number and asked for an address they gave

My 83 year old mom was just hit by this scam in the ever-popular month of July as well. For the same 447.35. I am angry that this is happening to so many vulnerable folks. It is an outrage and needs to be stopped. Now that I know its a scam I hope that I can get the bank to reimburse her for this fraudulent charge. Am going to make reports to authorities.

Here is the info I have:

    company: third party

bank: Holladay Bank, for deposit only, different account numbers

    (no signature required) Preauthorized Checks:
    altcharge.com  11/17/2010  $396.38
    vgs id theft  02/01/2011  $188.63
    sasmed  07/13/2011   $399.00

    phone numbers:
    866-304-2401
    888-778-6987
    800-851-2004

My opinion is that these people could have someone privy to social security direct deposit information or could have hacked into such a resource.  My mother has not had access to her bank info for a long time.  My opinion is that they call to have a record of contact.  If they are successful in getting info, great for them.  If not, it would be easy for them to have their own "actors" to record a call with lots of background noise that they could play for anyone making an inquiry.   Just my personal opinion....

I was told by someone working for "third party" that "unfortunately, the company that we collected for has informed us that they are no longer in business so we cannot do anything about your money".  Can't remember if it was supposed to be altcharge or vgs.  No refunds here.

This same company "withdrew" $387 from my 87 year old father's checking account in May.  Did you receive a refund?  I also called the number listed and they indicated the same 21 days to refund the money.  I'll be following up with the Ohio Attorney General offic.

I was wondering if you have anymore information on these scam artists they hit my parents account for $387.00 I am working with the bank and have been since June 2011 when the check was generated. I hope to tell you that it is my intention to not stop going after these scumbags until my parents are refunded not only their money but their overdraft fees as well. This is rediculous and uncalled for I cannot believe that "people" and I use that term loosely can get away with targeting the ederly and scamming them out of hundreds of dollars of their money. As you can tell I am furious. We live in Oklahoma and I am looking for any information that you may have that can help me get my parents some restitution.    Thank you    Thea Walkinshaw

Same deal here..CAPS  went after my 88 year old dad's account for $398. Fortunately, as I just had him change his acount from a previous fraud, his bank refused to cash it. Did the same calls, got the same runaround trying to find out who they were, what they do for $398 and how they got my dad's info. In August a company called Legal Eye (supposedly some kind of elder health and legal service company) hit his account for $369 in the same way. Same deal, call the company, all representatives are busy, leave a message. Their number is 1-877-861-0114 and is out of Hialeah, FL. By checking online I found the company is linked with 2 other fradualent companies out of the Hialeah-Miami area: Contarella Services and Summer Vacation Services, Inc. All are owned and operated by 3 or 4 relatives who take turns as various "exectutive officers" in each others shell companies. I was figuring that CAPS may be somehow related to this and that's how they had the info to generate a electronic check without ever having talked to my father. I am gathering info, names addresses, phone numbers etc. of the scum im FL and am turning it over to the Attorney General's Office in FL and the Hialeah police. Nothing will probably get done but at least I will have tried. Wish I lived in FL because I'd drive up to these addresses and find the sob's myself. Good luck to everyone on here. I've saved this link to see what others write on here.
