- JJOrigionally charged for discount drug plan. When called about charges they said a refund would be made in 21 days. Now calls are to a "3rd party customer service" which gives their hours of operation but there is no answer during the "open" period. Elderly should be aware of scam.

- Tina| 2 repliesNever received a call. number was on check that they stole from me.
they electronically stole $399.00 from me using an electronic check. I've never spoke to these people, nor have I received any calls from this number. I don't know how they got my info, nor my check account number. Good thing I notice it in time, because bills are coming up that needs to be payed. - Joe RThe unauthorized attempt to withdraw $399.00 from our account has occured on three separate occasions (that we caught) since 2008. The specific "company" that makes the withdrawal varies and the description is always nebulous (e.g., "benefits," "for inquiries"). The consistent pieces are that the "check" submitted to the bank or credit union is never signed (is supposedly is "pre-authorized") and, for some reason, is for $399.
I contacted (866) 304-2401 - listed on the "check" in the most recent ripoff attempt. Similar to what JJ describes, the person answering said that the charge was for enrollment in some kind of "medication benefits." The person responding to my call promised to refund the money in 21 days. Since I appear to have developed "trust issues" I disputed the charge with my financial institution and have reported the incident to law enforcement rather than waiting for the refund. Unfortunately, I'm learning that this seems to be a common form of theft. We need to make more people aware of this scam.- Caller: SUREBEN
- jane doe| 2 repliesI too was recently scammed for $399.00 in the same way as Joe R.'s details listed above. When I tried calling the 800 number a "third party machine" came on and then hung up when I thought they were gonna answer. The company on the check was "SUREBEN."
- Katherine Jones| 1 replyLinda Grey from Nationwide Security called, 1-888-555-1234, ext 2223 claiming the company received information that we were a target for identity theft. She asked for banking information to flag our account and protect us. I believed her and she used the information I gave her to float an electronic check through our bank for $387 days later. I called the number when the electronic check hit the bank, 1866-304-2401 and it turned out to be some medical benefit program I was supposed to have signed up for. I went to my bank and a stop was put on the check payment. Because of thieves, I check my bank account daily for anything suspicious. I called the 1-866 number and spoked to a Trevor and told him I did not authorize a $387 withdrawal. He said okay, the amount would be cancelled and the $387 charge would be returned to my account in 21 days. Our bank acted quickly recognizing this as a scam.
- slymouseMy 74 year old Monther just had a debit in the amount of $398.00 taken from her account yesterday late Friday afternoon......we called her bank to report the scam but have to wait til Monday. I was able to search the number listed on the "Electronic check" and found all these people with the same issue. We will be at the bank first thing Monday morning to get this taken care of, I guess because of some THIEVES her bills will have to wait!
- AnonymI do my mothers checking account and noticed a 449.00 debit on her account. I called the bank to find out what this charge was for. It was an electronic transfer made payable to D Ben and my mothers account number was located on the bottom of the document. When I called the bank to find out how my mothers account got on there they had no idea other than it was an electronic transfer. There was a telephone number on the debit (1-866-304-2401). When you call that number you get a recording that it is a 3rd party cust serv co. Call between 9-5 eastern time mon-fri which I was doing. No chance to even leave a message. The bank eventually credited her account after 60 days and 2 telephone calls. This is a SCAM that they prey on older people and I cant figure out how they have been getting away with it.
- Agent Homeland Secuirty| 2 repliesThe Department of Homeland Secuity is conducting an investigation into this phone number and corporation. Please view all contact with this number or "D Ben" to be suspect.
- Jen DMy 83 year old mother was hit with this scam this past week for $449.25. Her bank thought it was fraud immediately and refunded her account and sent her a letter with a copy of the electronic transaction. I called the phone number and they told me it was for D BEN discount medical benefits. Not sure how they got her account number because she got the call on Fri Apr 8th and refused to give them her bank number when they asked for it. She is legally blind and can not read the numbers off her checks or bank statements so I know she couldn't have given it to them. She said when they called they told her it was regarding her Medicare / Social Security cards needing replaced. She tried to call SS as soon as she got off the phone but the office was already closed. We went to the bank on Monday April 11th to put an alert on her account and sure enough the electronic debit was dated for Apr 12th. When I called they were very rude, I told them it was fraud that she could not have given them the information he said she authorized it and they have it recorded and I should quit being so adamant that she did not authorize it when she did. I told him I would be reporting it as fraud and hung up on him. We have put a hold on her account and will be closing it and opening a new account for her tomorrow. I fear for her health as she had a stroke in late Oct and this has her all worked up and upset and I worry she will have another stroke or heart attack worrying about it. These people need to be prosecuted!!!!

- Donna replies to Agent Homeland SecuirtyGreat - My mom was hit today w/$399 chg. Called bank 2x they still didn't pick up on it. I googled the phone # on the check and found these postings. Thanks.
- Robyn L.Well, my elderly mother was taken by this scum-bag too. $399 w/d from her account and of course no response at their "customer service" number. Someone also tried to use her debit card (3rd time in 2 years we've had to get new one because someone out there has tried to use it...) She is bombarded with scam calls and is about to have a nervous breakdown because of these horrible scammers out their that prey on the elderly.
- Dawn CaMy mom just lost her husband in January and it seems like people have come out of the woodworks to scam her. THESE [***] tried to take 399.99 out of her checking account but luckily her bank was looking out for her! How can we legally go after these spineless creeps?
- scum!We were hit by this scam. After seeing how they got everyone else's numbers we will be reporting it straight to the police without trying to negotiate with these creeps. No idea how they got our information.
Electronic check paid out to "IBEN" and had "benefits" in the memo line. - Judy M| 1 replyMy mother also received call from Discount Meds - they charged her $447.35 - automatic withdrawal from her bank account. Called customer service and refund policy (866) 304-2401 - refund in 21 days. What a ripoff - has now been almost 2 months - still calling - no results. Preying on senior citizens.

- George S| 1 replyLike so many of the posters I too manage finances for an elderly parent. Recently $398 was removed from my father's checking account. The Bank record indicates that the funds went to C.A. P (Consumer Advocate Protection). The customer service number on the check was 866 304 2401 (this belongs to an organization called Third Party Customer Service). I called and spoke to a gentleman who gave me a number at C.A.P. to call. I called several times. Each time I get a recording stating that due to high call volume all their representatives are busy. Then it goes right to voice mail. Very fishy. I called back Third Party. The representative said that if I do not get satisfaction from C.A.P. in 48 hr they could step in and remedy the situation. we'll see (24 more hr to go) In the mean time I called the bank to alert them and see if they could get the money back.
- TonyP| 2 repliesYes these [***] has gotten me good once for 393.50 then for 299.00 I have filed this with my bank and will get my money back at some point. I too think its has somthing to do with internet search engines. When calling the 888 number they are just telling you what they know you want to hear and have no intentions of refunding your money. The best thing to do is change you account so that these [***] will no longer have access to it because they will hit you again. My question is the banks should be aware of this seeing that so many people has been affected. I call them every other day just to harrass them i know they have no intentions of giveing me my oney back but they dont have a choice its sad that hard working people and retired people are subject to this behavior. I let them know I aint taking this laying down

- Bridget P| 2 repliesMy sister, luckily, walked in on our mother reading out her bank account number on the phone to these scammers. My mother, who has memory problems, couldn't explain why she had done it, so my sister called the bank and closed the account. This happened May 11th. Yesterday we went to the bank and changed the account number, saying to stop payment on everything except two outstanding checks we knew were my mother's. Today D Ben tried to debit her account for $449.00, but the bank stopped payment. This number was on the electronic debit. The bank knows not to allow any debits, but it is very disturbing that this outfit is still operating using exactly the same scam RIGHT NOW.

- Sissy| 2 repliesI have been dealing with the same issue over the past few days with my mother. She took a phone call and spoke with a representative. She spoke with me after doing so and my first response was "No this is not right." My mother went to the bank spoke with a manager and we also phone the local sheriff's office to report the incident. Yesterday the bank notified her that the company had made a electronic withdrawl of $449.25. As some of you all I phoned the number and it was answered as a thrid party customer service, I demanded the ladies name and she was very hesitant I obtained a first name but no last name, who knows if name is correct. Very quickly I told her I wanted to cancel and before I could ask for a refund she said the money would be placed back in the account within 21 days. We will see, please spread the word to every one especially the elderly, this is where my mother got caught
