I am being harrassed repeatedly by phone and fax by Multiplan.  They want me to reduce my fees on some Cigna claims.  I do not have a contract with Cigna nor with multiplan.  They claim it is Urgent for me to reply and want me to discount my fees.  As an out of network provider, my patients pay me my fee on the day of service so their ploy of "expedited" payment is not going to work on me.  I bill patient's insurances as a courtesy to them so they can get reimbursed from their insurance company.  I do not appreciate being scammed by multiplan and also by the insurance who contracted multiplan to try to trick me and other providers out of pay for our services.  They are trying to pray on providers who don't collect their fees at the time of service, making them think a little money is better than nothing.  Until our government cracks down on this and providers stop falling for it, I'm afraid this nonsense is not going to stop.  Really unbelievable.  It makes me sick what insurance companies get away with in this country.

I received a call on my voice mail from a person named Monica that claimed that she is with Multiplan and gave me a reference number and asked me to call back at 866-331-6256, because they needed my fax number to process a claim for a client of mine.  I use to be a engineer who worked on phone systems before I became a therapist and the way that I received the call was very unusual and most insurance companies use a trunk system so the caller ID number will not be the same as the direct dial number that you call back to talk with the person that left the message.  In this case they were the same.  I called Multiplan corp. office in New York and they asked for the reference number that I was given, and they confirmed that it was NOT one of theirs.  I also remember that there have been scams in the past when I was a phone administrator for the Disney Company where you would be asked to call an area code of 866 and in actuality you would be calling out of the US and would be charged hundreds of dollars for making the call and there was nothing that the US government could do about it.  So it’s a major scam.

I just received a message from "Neal" also with and Indian accent, leaving a reference number and wanting me to leave my fax number for an insurance claim. None of my insurance claims use faxes so I find this strange. When I called back to see what/if any business this is, there was a static sound in the connection and no voice mail picked up. Very odd. And he had my home number, not my counseling office number.

I so far received two calls from the this number.  Could be a recorded message since she sounds the same as the last call and said the same thing.  I can't understand half of what she said but was able to make out quite a bit except the company she is calling from by playing the message a few times.  I think it is a scam.  I only deal with a few insurance company and my claims are fine with them.  Unbelieveable!!!!

I am only contracted with a few carriers. I am pending on others since I am new in practice. I received a call from Jessie with an Eastern Indian accent and the rest is the same except they gave me a name that was barely intelligible and if I understood it correctly it was NOT a patient of mine. I also use office ally as a billing intermediary otherwise I mail PI claims to a physical address. SCAM

I have the same call currently coming to me and then received a call from my mother-in-law saying this number was calling her house asking for me! I have no idea where they are getting their call lists from, but it is not only from UBH or other insurance companies. I have not called them back. I will take the advice from "lotus" by contacting UBH, whom I am out of network with, and wait it out. I will not work with bullies either, I have much better things to do with my time. I will also encourage my client to contact their insurance company about giving out their information. Thank you all for your posts!

No, this group at this number aren't legit.  If they were, the caller ID number and name would actually match when you call it back, (or the number wouldn't be disconnected).  They are looking for medical providers information.  Due to the huge amount of MEDICARE and MEDICAID fraud, I'd suggest that you simply say no, no over the phone info to anyone.  Our staff is told they may respond that they do not give out information to unidentified callers, and all requests must be in writing.

So what happens? If you don't call them back, does the insurance company just eventually process the claim and you never knew the claim they were calling in regard to? I'm assuming they will have to, right?

Same goes for me. I've been in business over 27 years. I have contracted with PMCS (Preferred Medical Claim Solutions) since 2005, for 80% of allowable charges. While accepting 20% less is not agreeable to some, it does open the door to more accounts clearing and settling the balance quicker. When indemnity health policies were the standard, most insurance companies paid on the 80/20 basis. It is totally up to the doctor to accept the amount, and go on with business.

This type of plan is not new. As any practitioner will tell you, getting paid today is better than waiting 'til tomorrow, or next thursday, or a month from now! When an insurance thinks that they are saving anything, they seem more agreeable to make payment.

When agreeing to the terms, be sure of the companies that are being represented. When I agreed to PMCS assignment, they were representing Allied Benefit Systems. It appears they also represented United Healthcare as well.

I also received a message from Denise with an indian accent. If its not a scam, it's fishy.

Received a message from "Multiplan", asking to call re: an insurance claim "for a patient".  We are not a medical business of any kind. Scam. Left a reference number, said his name was Kevin (sure). Ridiculous.

I just received a call from this number on my cell and then my work phone.  Man claimed to be from Cigna, wanting my fax number.  As it just did not seem right, I asked for his number and said I would call back.

Received 2 calls from this number - our home phone, and cell phone!  Incomprehensible message - something about health plan, fax number, and long account/ID number.  Sounds like a scam to me.  Especially because CallerID just listed it as generic name - rather than legit company name.  Good thing we didn't respond - sounded fishy, and we couldn't understand message anyway.  Figured if important, would contact us some other way.

I get calls in my home office at all hours of the night.  It wakes me up and my family up.  The few times multi plan has left a voicemail, I can barely make out what they are saying.  How can we make this stop.

The number I have is actually 866 331-6258. They said they were representing Cigna, for which I am a provider, and they wanted the fax number of my patient billing dept. and the name of my biller. Cigna has no knowledge of these people. What can they do with the information?

Just got a call from 8663316256 tina, also thick eastern accent w/ref# asking for callback and fax# re a 'client'.  Called back and spoke with Indian accent ben who asked for my ref#, I refused. Asked for NPI, I refused. I told him I would give him my phone number and he can remove it and not call me any longer.  He asked if this was a Dr. office, told him yes, asked for providers name, I refused and told him I was calling to have my number removed from his call list, failing that I would forward info to my state's attorney general.  he asked for the phone number, I gave it, he asked for the providers name again and again I refused. He said he could not remove the number without that info, I told him that he could, or not, his choice, but call my office again and I would contact the attorney general. I'll let you all know what happens. In the meantime:

We received this call as well. He identified himself as being contracted with United Healthcare Services. It sounds like a third party service who take a fee out of getting you your payments "faster" but at a reduced rate (because they keep a portion). It's like those companies who do business by fronting you the money for your structured settlement, but expect a fee for doing so.

It's like a cash now service... and frankly we're not that hard up for money that we can't wait for the electronic pay service (a week maybe?) to do its thing. Not a scam, but not worth a dime either.

Got a call from this number - the caller left a message saying he needed to "verify my provider record information." He requested my "patient billing fax number" and left a long reference number. When I called back, there was only a recorded message asking for the same. It sounded like the caller and recorded message had an Indian accent.
