Just got a check today from PLUSNET. It is on a Wells Fargo Bank check that says "VIOD AFTER 120 DAYS". I would think that Wells Fargo knows how to spell "VOID"! Same story as the others. Check for $3,850.00 to cover $1,850.00 for the Tax Clearance Fee. Same contacts.

I just received a Plusnet letter Northeastern University  is the Company and Bank of America is where the is from. Same deal $3,850 and to send them $2.550 for the tax clearance fee to a British tax officer. Same contact names Mr. Marvin Anderson or Ms. Maliy Frank and the Promotional Manager is Mrs Betty Mckenzie. Phone # is different 866-814-8499.

i just  recieved a letter from plusnet the check from NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY 360 HUNTINGTON AVE BOSTON MA for $3850.00 and it was a Bank of America check from Hartford Conn. and it states that i am supposed to send a tax payment of $2550.00 to tax officer Sarah Jane 9 Plumbstead Road, London United Kingdon the plusnet address on the letter is the same as the university address on the a. the payment officrs are Mr Marvin Anderson or Ms. Malie Frank phone # 866-814-8499. i called Bank of America and it is 100% SCAM. I was told to contact the police.

I got the same letter and 866 phone number; took it took my bank and they told me that what I already knew that it was a scam. They kept  and copied both the letter and the check; I was told that they got some elderly gentlemen for almost a million dollars from these letter.

Yes, same suspected scam here. I got the check and the contacts are Mr. Marvin Anderson with a strong Indian accent and Mrs. Malie Frank also with an eastern accent with a touch of an English accent.
My guess is that they give you a bogus check and convince you to send them a Western Union or Money Gram Tax payment in the amount of $1850.00. Then their check does not clear and you're stuck with the tax payment. They maintain that the Tax payment must be made prior to them sending you a FedEx tracking number for the balance of your 50,000. The Scotland Yard should take these chumps out back and spend a bullet. They misspelled VOID as VIOD. They would take the Tax out before then sent you the balance if this were legit. And Tax on windfall winnings, Especially in the UK would be more like 50% rather than this meager sum of $1850 on 50,000 (3.7%).

That's a good idea to check by the routing number. I'm glad I was on here reading all the post on this company. Yes these people need to be stopped. I had gotten excited, thought I had won some money, although much needed.

I am calling Bank of America and the Police department tomorrow morning.
QUESTION: where all the people "picked" to be scammed completely "random" or do you this this is something bigger?

I received one as well....the bigger question is what we should do about these letters/checks.  Should we hand them over to the police? Or take it to our bank?

well my check is real, but they finds out about these big time companies & things,and some how get into their infomation, i call the bank that was on my check, the bank is legit & the funds are in there & the name on the check is legit.but they are not,they using other people & companies information. this is one of their phone number 886 814 8499

This is so wrong.  I mean you can't help but hope even when you are smart.  my wife and I thought how great it would be to get out of student loans!!! maybe put away money for kids College.  its funny they think that the averge American would be more willing to go blow a hole through so "Free" money but in reality, most Americans are in the same boat, its truley sad given the state of our economy that we can't nab these criminals.  we probally have no jurisdiction into whatever Country they are coming from.  I guess this all ties back to the American dream, with the reality that nothing is free, but good hearts and a united front make us just a little bit stronger daily!!!

p.s. saw the advice above about taking this to the bank so it might they might be able to track it better.  that seems like the best bet.  thanks for everyone's comments.  My only real prayer is that noone actually deposits this money!!

I received a letter with a check today, 2/11/2011, from PLUSNET. The envelope was metered and mailed in the UK, and the letter was a CASH PRIZE NOTIFICATION.  With claim number and instructions. The check enclosed, written to me, is for the sum of $3,850. and they are asking for a Tax Clearance Fee (Non-Residents) because the DRAW  was supposedly made in the United Kingdom. The amount they are asking for is $2,550. US dollars. They request  that you send them the fee via Western Union or Money Gram. They say to send it to a Tax Officer, Mrs. Sarah Jane, 9 Plumstead Road, London, United Kingdom, Se18 7bz. The letter is supposedly from a Mrs. Betty McKenzie, listed as the (Promotion Manager), and they ask that you call Mr. Marvin Anderson or Ms. Malie Frank on Tel: *66-623-9640 between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday, Pacific Standard Time. The signature on the letter is computer generated, and even in the wildest imagination, the signature does not look like the name McKenzie. The Check looks legitimate, and I could certainly use the money, but this is a scam, and it sounds like several of you also have gotten similar mail from them. They say I won $50,000. and have a claim number and everything, but I can't remember when was the last drawing I entered with Safeway. It was most certainly not in the UK. Please notify the FBI if any of you end up with numerous bogus emails a week with people saying you won something. I get 6 to 8 bogus emails a week, from mostly South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Florida. I want a new email address because of all the slimey people sending me emails. This is friggin ridiculous!!!! They should be cautious, the FBI will be contacting them soon.

Got one of these Saturday.  Tax Officer is Mrs. Sarah Jane at 9 Plumstead Rd, London.  I googled Plumstead Rd - found apartments for sale - but no tax office.  Plusnet is where my letter was sent from.  This is a legitimate broadband company from the UK and operates out of Houston, TX-the address for PLUSNET on the letter.  The postmark says it was sent from the UK.  Marvin Anderson  and Malie Frank are "Payment Handling Officers."  Phone # is 866-623-9640 - Pacific time to call between 8am and 6pm.  Betty McKenzie is the Promotion Manager  but the signature on the letter is not hers.

This is unfortunate as the check looks very legitimate, has a watermark on it.  Someone  has spent a considerable amount of money to defraud people.  I'm going to take this to my post office to see if Federal Postal Laws have been broken.

We just got a check from Plusnet as well! googled it and this site came up. I hope these scammers get caught soon!!

Rec'd the same letter.  The letter head has a Houston po box.  But you call the uk.  Why the government don't do something about this.  It's still a crime.

received a Plusnet envelope in the mail with a check enclosed.  Same story, send money to London.  Check is for $3950.  I need to send them 1950.  I will receive $50,000 to be deliverd by currier from FedEx or Ups. The check is from an insurance company  New York Life, in Clevland OH...

Plusnet is a Financial Express company.   Oh, and I have to call Pacific time as well. Just like Jimmy Limo above.

Wow, I just received a check and a letter today for 3950. Called and they said first you need to deposit your check then call back tomorrow. And talk to Ms. Malie Frank or Mr. Marvin Anderson. And they will give you a tracking number and the rest of your money will be delivered Thursday UPS. Glad I found this sight.
