This happened to my daughter - 18 and naieve! After she told me about the call, I made her go to the bank and take out her money. She left A$20 in there. We just got overdraft notice ($35). I called the people back and got lots and lots of double talk. I got off the phone and called Florida State's attorney general office who referred me to two places:
Federal Trade Commission (877) 382-4357;l and Department of Consumer Services (850) 488-2221. They both said they look for trends and will act if they see enough cases - so, you all need to do these things:

Federal Trade Commission (you need to go through a very long, but, worthy electronic system, before you reach a live person):
    1. call EQUIFAX (800) 525-6285 and place a FRAUD ALERT on your social security number. (even if you don't give your SS# out, this is a procedure they recommend). It is good for 90 days, and when you are asked if you want to request a free credit report, they suggest you do it. THis is automated.Or I think you do this online at WWW.FTC.GOV
     a. they also recommend filing a police report. Could help in getting bank fees back.

    2. Department of Consumer Services:
you can fill out a report with a live person, but, you can file online as well (that's what I did), at WWW.800Helpfla.com.

All avenues will request, names, dates, amounts, addresses, phone numbers, as much info as you can give them.

Good luck to you all, help spread the word, knowledge is power against these goons.

I have also read a call stating the same thing and like most I'm kicking myself when we should be kicking them. I did get a name of Paul Reyes in N.J. and would like to know if anyone else has found the co. or person responsible. It's not over for me and I assure you it just starting for them. I work too hard to be stolen from. Thanks for letting me vent.

the Problem with bloquing is that you only block the person that took money from you account it does not help from other people debiting your account

I am registered with the National Do Not Call and the Texas No Call List, there are occassional calls that get through, like this one whom deliberately misrepresented itself as federal government and I had no idea of the NHS until it appeared on my bank statement.
Oh When I confronted them about it, they said they have proof, I told them the verification process was illegal giving that one of the question I answered incorrectly but could not go back and change it. Does this constitute charging me anyway if it does not match?

    FYI
    DOCUMENTING.
TODAY 2/04/2008 I called the Unique Consumer Services(800)947-7913 and the number is no longer valid from just talking to someone last week.
The message indicated that there is a $4.99 charge to dial 10-15-15-8000 just to get the new number this scam artist is using.
Why is National Health Services the charge on my account when there was no mention of them? (800)407-1029

I work at a bank.  I had a customer call today asking why their account was negative.  I look at it and I'm explaining the charges they have on their account and they ask me what is this $299.95 charge.  It had the 866-407-1029 number on it so I told them to call the number and see if they can get some more information on it.  As soon as I get off of the phone with the customer, I google the number.  I found this and saw all of the information here.

My suggestion for anyone who is hit by these (or other) scammers: dispute the charges with your bank.  You can get your money back.  Once you have successfully disputed the charges, close your account and open a new one.

Fill out a report with any of the organizations that have been listed here so the authorities will have some sort of record of you being scammed as well as the others.

I was a victim of this SCAM, but thank GOD my bank gave me my money back.  I thank all of you for the valuable information you provided and I hope eall things work out for all of you.  These people need to be put underneath the jail for running scams like this.  Also the government needs to find out were they are getting all of this information from, cause when they called me they knew all my information, and funny thing is I had just moved and didnt even do a change of address or file it with the MVA and they knew my address, bank info, where I worked, and everything else about me.  I contacted the company after they charged my acct. the  299.95 and they acted like they were not scamming people.  Everyone that I have talked to there has a middle eastern accent so they are really running a big scam.  I think the company is overseas or something.  Has any of you applied for any payday loans because I started receiving calls like this right after I received a payday loan from this a company.  I wanted to see these people get everything they deserve and why is it taking the federal government so long to track these people down and shut them down.  Also after I was charged the 29.95 I called and cancelled and the guy I spoke to gave me a cancellation number, but it was fake.  They altered the intial phone call I had and when they played it back the only thing they played was me saying yes and verifying my info, they did not have the guy on tape telling me about the grant I was going to receive.
