we got a call from this number and it was legit. It was for my wifes CIBC Mastercard. Like others have commented, my wife called the number on the back of the card instead of the number in the message (i.e. this number) and CIBC Mastercard confirmed that the call was legit. It turns out that one of the online vendors that my wife has purchased through was hacked and CIBC was confirming latest purchases with cardholders. Additionally, they told he that they will be issuing a replacement card.

I got an automated computer call from this number to say that my credit card had been compromised and so was a tad suspicious. I rang the CIBC number on the back of my credit card, and they put me through to the fraud department...apparently the 1866 454 4339 number is a legitimate number. Someone had been using my card online to make a whole bunch of purchases. They told me to cut up my card immediately and they are sending out a new card...FYI it takes less time for them to send it to a bank than to send it to your house.

    Not a happy camper
I travel often and i receive emails from family to tell that i receive auto message from cibc. NO CALLER ID. So i ignore because i think is scam. I start have problem using card and few weeks ago i get back and I call customer service phone # on card.  15 minutes on hold. I hang up. I try to use card and does not work. I receive a call from 1-866-454-4339 and its from Vlademir.  After reading other people post here i think is him!  He say he call because they have some question about my accounts. I say fine you ask me what you need.  He make joke about my international charges and is funny and i tell him its work related. Then he ask me if i support taleban. I laugh because i think he joke again but he tell me is not laughing matter because if i do then my account is deactivate due to support terrorist and money laundering!  I ask him if he joke and he tell me that fraud is serious and not to joke.  I yell at him because i have never been call terrorist before also i travel to usa and europe. That make me terrorist now? Then he say i rude and tell me to go to bank and call him again and until then my card froze. I call back customer service cancel card and file complaint with vlademir with manager. I do not deal with company who clal me terrorist.

I received an automated message from this number.  I called the back of my visa number and there was fraud going on.  My card was cancelled.  Do not ignore the message.  Call immediately. Thank you to all who posted.

I received a recorded announcement call from this number today.  I called back and was told my account was "compromised" and that they have cancelled my card.  They are sending me a new card, BUT they did this before confirming any of the "suspected" transactions (ALL of which were authorized by me).  My son suspects that they closed my account in error (similar number to another account that actually was compromised) and they are just covering their butts for their mistake.  I have a lot of online accounts, all with VISA as my registered payment.  I've been on the phone and online for the past 4 hours fixing things.  As a result, VISA will no longer be my card of choice.  I  will only use it when the vendor doesn't accept either of my other cards (AMEX & MASTERCARD).  They are the losers here.  If they had only admitted that they made a mistake, I would not be so angry with them.

I got a call from this number and it was a recorded message saying that my CIBC card was compromised and that I should call back 866-454-4339.  Not knowing if the call was fraudulent fishing for my credit card information, I called CIBC using the number on back of my credit card (the only safe way to call) and CIBC confirmed that my card was compromised by a recent Home Depot purchase.   CIBC deactivated my card and is sending a new one.

Just as most have described 1-866-454-4339 is a legitimate number for CIBC fraud department. They said my card may be at risk and there was a data breach at a major retailer where my card was used and my card may be compromised. Nonetheless I called the number on the back of my credit card first and after 15min on hold they confirmed the original call I had was legit and then transferred me to the fraud department within 1 min. They confirmed my transactions over the past two days and then cancelled my card, promising to send me a new card and number in a couple of days.

This afternoon (Feb 16, 2016) I missed a call from 1 866 454 4339. The voicemail stated my name and that there had been fraudulent activity on my card. The voicemail instructed me to call the same number (1 866 454 4339) back ASAP. I google searched the number and found this site. I looked further but couldn't find that phone number on any CIBC site. I then called the number on the back of my credit card. They confirmed that there had been fraudulent purchases on my card.  They cancelled my card and I have a new one on the way.

Legit from me, too.  I heard a message to return a call to CIBC fraud unit. Next time, however, I will simply call the number on the back of my credit card (no matter which bank). There is an email address given in the automated welcome. I would never give out information to a person calling me from a number I hadn't checked. Ask for the number to call back and see what happens (but best advice....call the number on the back of card or past statements.

This telephone number is real and is from the CIBC Fraud Department.
To be safe I called the number on the back of my CIBC credit card and they verified the number and transferred me internally to the CIBC fraud department.
Some charges were reversed, card was cancelled, and a new card is on its way.

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

SCAM ALERT - DO NOT call this number back, it is a scam. I received a voice mail altering me of fraudulent activity on my Visa, asking me to call 1-866-454-4339. I called the number back and it was another automated system asking me to enter #2030, alerting me that this redirection would cost me $4.99. I hung up and called the number on the back of my Visa instead and the representative informed me CIBC would NEVER leave a voice mail like this asking me to call them back

I got a call from this number, and I decided to call the # on the back of my card to see if it was real or not.  When I got ahold of my credit card company, they said my card had been flagged because of a glitch in their system that rejected a Netflix charge.  They had to remove the block, and the card is active again.   The company says that they never send fraud warnings by message, apparently they text.  So I'm not sure if the 866-454-4399 number is real, but I do know that the card was compromised.     So call the company using the number on the back your card!

I had a call at 9:48 p.m. today.  Someone asked me about CIBC transactions (a request to transfer a certain amount) and CIBC VISA credit card, and insisted that I called to CIBC 5 minutes ago. They got my first and last name correct and asked me about my e-mail address. First of all, I don't have an account and CIBC VISA card. She told me her name is Engracia. She had an accent, in my opinion, from one of Caribbean countries. I told her "you are a FRAUD" and she hung up immediately.
