I got an automated call asking me to call the fraud department at CIBC. Caller display showed that the automated call originated at CIBC. I called the number on the back of my Visa card instead. The customer service rep assured me the number I was given was indeed the fraud department. They transferred me to the fraud department. Apparently my card number had been compromised. They read off the last half dozen of my transactions to verify that I had made them. They asked me to destroy my card, and they will send me a new one by Purolator, since the mail is not moving at the moment.

If you get a call from this number, get in contact with CIBC asap. Use the number on the back of your card if you're at all unsure.

Got a message saying it was the CIBC Credit Card Fraud Response Center. Called the Visa number on the back of our card and it was all true. Someone tried to spend over $8000 on my and my wife's card.  Call Visa and they will transfer you over.  Call quick!

Got a message to call this number. I phoned and confirmed some info and some CC purchases. After hanging up, I realized it wasn't the number on the back of the card and I couldn't find that particular number on their website. I phoned the card/website number and double checked that they had in fact just talked to me and that the other number was legit.

Regarding 1-866-454-4339, just got off the phone with CIBC fraud investigation dep't. There was no problem with my debit card ( don't own a CIBC visa card ), but they were phoning me to offer me a new 'low interest visa' card. I declined and asked them to remove me from the solicitation list, which they did. Nothing sinister going on here. Just another marketing ploy.

A few weeks ago i get a call from "Vladimir". He tells me my card is blocked until further notice.  He never gave me information to verify he even knew what my visa number is but insisted that i had to go to a branch.  So I start to think its a scam and i may have given him a hard time and he tells me to chill out and when I said excuse me he says "just call me Vlad".  I said do you even work for CIBC and he says maybe I do and maybe I don't.  I hung up and called the phone contact number on my card and it wasn't blocked but they confirmed that this is a phone number for card holder service.  ?????????  When I had time to think about it i realize that it was not a scam because he didn't ask me for any information just kept telling me my card was blocked and to go to a branch to verify my identity.  I don't know who these jokers are who are working there but I am switching cards to another bank.

I received a puzzling call by someone who identified himself as "Vladimir" and after reading the comments posted above i think its the same guy.  He was talking so fast that i didnt know what he wanted and he kept interupting me. I finally asked him what he was trying to sell and he tells me "look dude your gonna need to cooperate or we're closing your account" and when i asked what account he says my cibc credit card.
I had a cibc card 2 years ago but i closed the account myself and when i told him this he put me on hold but i could actually hear him talking and laughing with someone in the background. I hung up the phone and he called me back. I was angry and told him i wanted to speak to his manager and he told me "that will be a little hard to do" and when i asked why i heard someone in the background laughing.

The caller id was 1-866-454-4339 and when i looked up cibc's customer service number and called they said it was a real cibc number. i registered a complaint with the customer service person who told me he didn't personally know who vladimir is but would try to find out.

Well add another complaint about Vladimir! He is rude obnoxious and nasty! I have never been spoken to so badly before and after I called this number and confirmed it is indeed cibc I closed my credit card account and opened one with TD.

I am a retired CIBC employee (Back Office) and can tell you that
CIBC has VERY good Fraud Detection Software running in the VISA Dept.

However, ANYTIME you get an email/phone call using phone numbers you DO NOT KNOW to be CIBC, it is ALWAYS wise to use the number on the back of the Credit Card.

The reps are extremely understanding of your caution and will transfer you, internally, to the Fraud Department, usally to confirm a number of "very" recent transactions.

This happened to me today, and I did it exactly THAT way...

    Hope that helps....  -=E=-

It is legitimate though it sounds fake. To be 100% sure though in these cases, call the number on the back of your credit card. Mention you got a call suspecting fraud and they will transfer you over to the fraud department.

May 8, 2012. Got this message. Called the number on my card. Card had an alert, no false transactions but they cancelled it and issued a new card. Not a scam.

I am going to apologize up front for my ramble.... I too got a call from the CIBC Fraud Center just Thursday last week. They started off by asking some strange questions like have you transferred large amounts of money and when where you last on CIBC online banking. After I answer these, they tell me that someone got into my online banking and transferred $30,000 from my Visa to another account and then paid a company I have never heard of. This had happened on the Monday prior ( 4 days before). Then I am told, that whoever was watching my account and was in it that same night watching my activity. Very creepy. Now all my accounts were closed and reopened - and I mean ALL my accounts. checking, US $, Savings, VISA etc and a I had to call the Credit Bureaus to put extra security on my info. Also had to call the Canadian Fraud Centre which is manned by RCMP and OPP officers. They told me that I should consider that this could be an inside job.

After talking to the lady who is investigating the incident she told me to do a virus check on my computer and all that I found was adware  - does anyone know if Adware can get into secure sites like CIBC online banking?

    I have a Mac

    Thanks

I got a message yesterday from this same number (454-4339). The call display said CIBC, though I am always really suspicious of this (having had my credit card info stolen many years ago) so I was careful with what information I gave, however they had my address and information, so I kept on with it. In fact, it seemed legit to me- they read back my most recent transactions. My card had been compromised, and they told me to cut it up and they will send a new one. I am calling CIBC right now to confirm the phone number. Ok, just got off the phone with the number on the back of the card and they said that this number IS in fact CIBC fraud. Just call the number on your card yourself if you are not sure.

As for Vladimir, it seems as if people who represent another bank may be trying to scare people. Hard to trust what people say on the internet...

Called back the general CIBC line after getting a message on this line and they sent me through to the fraud department.  This number is CIBC's fraud line and they spotted two fraudulent transactions.

8664544339 dialed 3 times while i was at the doctor's -- as i did not recognize the number, i googled and checked this website -- i then called CIBC general number and they transferred me to the CIBC fraud department - my card needed to be cancelled and re-issued.  Reason given was that one of the merchants' hand-held device went missing and therefore all the customer#s may have been compromised. Immediate notification was done in this case.

I received 3 calls from this number in 15 minutes, and I called the number on the back of my credit card. For sure this is the genuine number of CIBC credit card fraud department. The call from this number is simply a recorded message that you should call back this number regarding your credit card issue. THE INCOMING CALL FROM THIS NUMBER DID NOT ASK ME TO IDENTIFY MYSELF.

Of course, the safest thing is always to call the number displayed on your card, if you're unsure.

Legitimate CIBC fraud call.  My card had been compromised.  They gave me a list of recent transactions and gave me the info - I didn't have to give them my card number or anything.  They are cancelling my card immediately and sending me a new one in the mail in a couple of days.
