yes everyone is right I bought a book from books a million did the trial thing and then boom I had these charges on my account i called the bank and had them removed because I thought I had identity theft or something..ordered a new debit card... but i googled the description on my account later to find it was from time warner and through people magazine and time magazine..never again learned my lesson!!!

It was alot easier than I expected it to be to cancel the subscriptions.  Wish I would of done it before the 78.00 came out of my account.  The nice lady on the phone said it would take 24 hours to put money back in account.  That is great and I am very pleased!!!  I made the call, though they did not call me.

BAM has nothing to do with it. Employees are forced to ask people if they want the subscription, so don't blame them for asking.  It is their fault if they don't explain everything, but most people do explain that if you don't call then you will be charged. Hey, for 2 months of free magazines, its worth it I think. You just have to remember to call the #.

Do you not listen when someone talks to you.  "I would like to offer you eight RISK FREE issues of up to TWO magazines," if you are lazy and do not cancel the magazines which is explained in standard 12 inch Times font, you will be charged.  Americans have become lazy, very. Also, it is sad that people who work for Books-A-Million are being ignorant; you probably got fired for shop lifting or harrasment.  The company does not fire people who try to make their goals, they fire people who spend their shift texting and not making an effort.  Seriously maybe you should spend more time reading the fine print on your milk and sue the people who bottle milk that comes from steriod cows.

Same song and dance from Books-A-Million and I think this whole thing is [***].  The magazines started showing up, and I was rather curious as to why, 2 months later I have 4 back to back charges totaling $134.70.  The charges were for 2 years of both Sports Ill. and Time.  I was shocked!  However, a quick phone call and I got $85 of my money back, due to the fact I admitted to getting some magazines they did not give all of it back.  So there ya go.  Thanks a lot BAM...ya scammers!!!

I'd rather shop Amazon or B&N instead.

You guys are fools.  They tell you when you sign up that you have to cancel after the free period is over.  So you forgot to call and cancel?  They will refund you immediately and stop the subscription if you just ask.  They don't fight you, argue with you, or try to talk you out of it.  They just cancel and refund - how is this BAD or FRAUDULENT?  You thought free for 3 months meant free forever?  You thought, "You have to cancel this after 3 months or it will autorenew" didn't apply to you?

Fools.  Stop complaining about YOUR mistake.

I too recieved a charg to my credit card from TWX*BAMM6/PEOPLE 866-494-3117 NY  I have no idea what it was for cause I don't shop at Books a million and that's what google says it is????

Same thing. Just checked the bank account and this [***] came up. I will get this cancelled and refunded. Eff BAM. unfortunatly there are alot of people who don't read into things they sign. It might not of been in fine print but I didn't know they debit my account. How many times do they debit it?

what debit card did you use? was it a visa card? what bank?

Before you assume everyone is an idiot you may want to know the facts. I received a card in the mail about time magazine. I bought 2 magazines at BOM 1 month before. Paid with debit card. Never was offered BOM card and never agreed to any magazines free or other wise. One reason I know this is I would never allow time magazine in my home because it is a left wing biased magazine that has forgotten what journalism is all about. I would never have known except for the card in the mail. I called the magazine retail enterprises and cancelled everything. I am now calling BOM to speak to a manager to provide me some sort of paperwork showing I agreed for them to let another company have my debit card info. Never offerd, never agreeed, never heard a peep about magazine subscription at the check out counter. My guess is that a store employee gets a bonus for these and he/she fraudulently added me. I will find out. It is illegal.

I called and had my "subscription" cancelled after the 4th issue and was still charged.  Even received an email confirmation.  NOW, I have to call again and go back through the process again.  My advice to all, simply do not "sign up" for anything unless you personally make the "call".

Also, when this charge was pending on my bank account, it was displayed as this "TWX*BAMM6/directtv".  After it was processed, it was displayed as this"TWX*BAMM6/SPORT".  Of course, this all just happen to began late on Friday.

The clerk also made it a big deal that they will send you a bill in the mail and you can cancel then. I never received it.

I just called them and cancelled them, They were extremely nice. I think there was a scam on BAMs and the sales people end. Sounds like everyone was told something different, just so the clerks at BAM could make a sale. Like I said before, I was told I would receive a bill in the mail and at that time, I could cancel or continue and nothing was said about cross referencing my previous sale and using my credit info for to pay for the magazine subscription.

I go to BAM often, I am always asked about the free trial subscription and I ALWAYS decline. I NEVER, NEVER have signed up for any magazine. I just checked my bank statement and a charge of $62 was taken out of my acct by this phone # and BAM for people magazine. When you refuse and they use your account without permission, I believe it amounts to theft. I haven't been able to talk to a real person yet, but I only discovered this today. I know they will never be able to produce any signed agreement for magazine subscriptions. This makes me so angry. We are a one income family of 7, so money is tight. I stay home to homeschool our children and go to BAM very often for school related games, puzzles, books, etc. I would hate to think this was done on purpose because someone was having a hard time meeting a "quota" of sales. BUT, I will do what I need to to get our money back!!

Fools?  They ask me every time, and I'm sure to tell them NO.  They went through and did it anyway.  I'll be calling tomorrow, hopefully they'll do what everybody says they do, refund the charge.
It does explain why we were getting free issues of People.  We thought somebody sent it as a gift, early Christmas subscription.

The thing is, I always tell them no.  Always.
My mom has a card, but today is the only time she used it, she didn't even know she had a key card.  They asked her today, and she says she said no.  But even if she said yes today, that doesn't explain the charge I received 3 days ago (Friday).
So, at some time, when I bought a book, a clerk asked, I said no, and they did it anyway.  Explains the issues of People we were receiving (thought it was an early Christmas gift subscription, family members do that).
If that's the case though, that they ask you because you used a debit/credit card, I'll be sure to use cash from now on at that store.  Even if it means leaving to get cash out of the ATM machine.

Books a Million offered the free mags to my sixteen year old who did not read the fine print. Now I have to call and cancel this stuff. Just because she has a card does not mean she is old enough to agree to terms.

i have recently found out that my card has also been charged by them for magizines i didnt know about im very mad about this i also call them and made sure they cancel my magazines and also refund my money. If the money is not in my account in three days i will be calling them back !!!
