- Tired of the BS!Okay, this CR Systems aka Capital Recovery Systems. I've talked to a Steven Green and Fred Stanton. Steven Green called my mom's house. She stays about 350 miles away from and I haven't lived there in 10 years. They told her that they had something "very" important to tell me and that I needed to contact them ASAP. My mom called me frantic over the whole situation. My ex-roommate opened an account in my name and the creditor just never understood that it was a fraudulent account. I DIDN'T pay the creditor. CR System chose to purchase that from the original creditor and now they feel as is they are entitled to some sort of compensation.
The collectors at CR Systems have been condescending, negative and rude they use demeaning, insulting words like dead beat to try to collect on debts. As if I care what a total faceless, shameless stranger says about me. They buy old, expired debt that are past the statue of limitation debt for pennies on the dollar and then try to collect 100% from debtors or come up with a settlement. If not, try to threaten debtors with filing a 1099C with the IRS. .
If these people call, just tell them to send the 1099C!
IA 1099C is for debt over $600 and they can only be filed by certain institutions (these institutions are defined on the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099ac_07.pdf) Also, the 1099C must be file within the year that the debt was canceled.
If you receive a 1099C and on the off chance that is actually legitimate, you just need to file an amended return for that year
Don't let debt define and conquer you. Know your rights and conquer it.- Caller: CR Systesm aka Capital Recovery Systems

- disgustedIt seems that the majority of people who are making posts regarding this company are those who have been contacted ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE'S DEBT. Since these agencies are seemingly incapable of doing the job they were hired to do, they are hounding unsuspecting people who, at times, have absolutely no connection to the debt.
If the idiot in the previous post is making 100,000 a year, then good for him. I hope he sleeps well at night. Those of us who make much less in more respectable careers are perfectly happy as well.- Caller: CR Systems

- whatThis guy aslo called my mom who lives a few states away, left a message. A Mr. Mullen called from CR Systems regarding a 'personal matter.' He had some papers about a legal matter and I needed to call him back now because he is doing me a favor by letting me know what's going on and that I should do him a favor by returning his call. What I say? How dare u..

- Mr SlickThese yahoos called my work and left a message with a coworker giving him their phone number and an extension, a CASE NUMBER, and proceeded to tell my coworker that there had been a stalement lawsuit filed against me by a county I dont even reside in and that they needed me to respond ASAP. When I got the message and returned their call there was so much comotion it sounded like a telemarketing center. I asked for ext. 220 and I got SCOTT AMES, who sounded like a goodfella rip off. He wanted to collect a debt over 3 years old and threatened to destroy my credit and pursue legal action against me if i did not pay immediatly. I was told the $374 i owe is a petty sum and they never waste time for that, and i just need to pay so they can make the real money. When I asked him to mail me the correspndants so i could verify and then relpy, he refused and said i was trying to stall and they dont waste materials on such petty debt, but he would fax or email them to me. When I proceeded to tell him I lacked an email account or a fax number he made fun of me and asked if I was dirt poor and wanted to know what my problem was. After another minute of arguing and verbal abuse, I ended the call, and he proceeded to call my work immediately. I ran better scams than these guys in grade school, and probably made better money doing it. Dont waste your time with these pricks, they are a joke.

- BreyedgirlIdentified himself as Tom Mullen even gave a file number. Called my husband's cell in a attempt to find my brother! I gave my brother the number he called it back and they knew his last 4 digits of his social and said they were collecting on a old credit card. Very polite and "business like". My brother was out of state at the time with our parents on a vacation of a lifetime and then had to deal with this stupid stuff !! I'm just glad I checked the number out on the web and found that it is a scam so the WHOLE trip wasn't ruined.

- Victim or the Crime? These guys are debt collectors based somewhere in Massachusetts. My understanding is that they buy old debts and then do whatever to try to track down some of the debtors. My problem is that they keep calling my father asking for my number and making noise about legal matters etc. When I called them back, it turned out they were looking for somebody else with my (common) name as verified by part of my SS#. BUt a month or two later they were harassing my parents again--same thing. Now it's happened for a third time. It pisses me off but I suspect it's all pretty legal. Maybe there's karma.

- Market Clues replies to Anonymous| 2 repliesI just got a call from Patrick Hunter from this number. Similar MO to the above. He was looking for my son who hasn't lived here in 25 years! I called back and asked for the name of the company and their mailing address and the guy who answered claimed the call was "breaking up" and he couldn't understand what I was saying.
On BANKS:
Banks have a tax scam going where they claim a debt which doesn't exist, hire a debt collector to get it. Then, when they fail to collect on it, they get a tax deduction for the whole amount. Citibank does this over and over and has avoided paying hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes over the last few decades. It's the biggest scam around and the government does nothing about it because the banks own the government. - Susan replies to Padraic| 6 repliesMy mother received two phone calls from this number asking for me her daughter, that it was very important that i return the call, that I probably didnt even know what was going on, referenced a case number. My mother lives in Florida and I have never resided in her home there! I did call the number back, person answered "good Morning, may I help you?" No office or person name given. He had left his name as Robert Johnson with my mom. I just hung up. Thnak you for having your comments available on this number. I was freaked out before, but now i know what is up. They are getting tricky arent they?
- bill-payer replies to Market Clues| 1 replyIt's a sad world when there are more "consumer rights" sites out there telling uneducated and mis-educated individuals ways to get out of paying their bills; than there are sites talking about how important it is to just pay your bills!
If you're not the debtor, they are not supposed to disclose to you the fact that they are looking for someone else to collect a debt! That would be an unlawful disclosure and subject them to all sorts of fines - just for doing their jobs!
If you are the debtor, pay your bills! And you won't have to deal with "sketchy" "scam-artists" who are able to make a multi-million dollar business out of your irresponsibility!
Also - no matter who you are, you're dealing with people who are doing their jobs, they are not telemarketers - if it's a genuine mistake, show them some respect and they'll treat you with respect, if you act like a jerk, guess what? They might just act like a jerk back?! - bill-payer replies to Josh| 3 repliesHey Smarties, Read the FDCPA! Some of you ought to be able to do the math, they are not expecting others "to do their job for them" they are doing their job better by "getting a reaction out of people." When people call back all angry about these calls to third parties, they are willing to stay on the phone longer because they want the opportunity to rant.
Calling third parties is ALLOWED under section 804. And that same section strictly prohibits disclosing the purpose of the call, or the name of the employer. although the name of the employer can be disclosed if requested.
The law defines harassment, deceptive practices, abuse, etc.
All of these consumer-advocate-know-your-rights (aka how to get out of paying your legal debts) websites are grossly misinforming people; and more often than not to their detriment. What many collection companies do when they get a form letter claiming to dispute the debt, is forward it straight to legal.
Also - to one of the know-it-alls above who says that it's illegal to collect an out-of-stat debt - wrong again. There are a few ways to deal with an out of stat debt, collectors can collect on it, just not threaten a lawsuit, lawyers can sue it, and wait for the debtor to raise the stat as a defense, or a 1099c can issue. Not to mention tolling statutes, promises to pay, etc... It's not illegal.
I'd be shocked if anyone could give a legitimate reason why they should not have to pay their bills? Collection agencies are businesses, the doctor who x-rayed your feet isn't a debt collector, so when you don't pay your bill, he's not going to waste his time on collections, he's going to outsource it. When credit card companies are bored with trying to chase people, they cut their losses and sell the debt to the next willing guy who thinks he might have a better shot at getting Joe Debtor to pay his bill.
Read your contracts people?! Lots of credit and service contracts outline what happens if you default, including collections, lawsuits, and your liability for the costs of collection and lawsuits. Plus, if people who entered into contracts come into hard times and can't keep up with their bills, it happens, but if you maintain communication with the original creditor usually they will work something out with you - it truly is the deadbeat who splits and stops returning calls or answering mail etc. - Fyodor| 1 replyGot a call from this number today saying his name was "Chase Huntley" and he asked for a former employee. Said it was a personal matter as others have stated above. I've confirmed that this is a legit collection agency, using typical collections tactics.
I'll agree with the collection trolls on one thing: don't open credit lines you can't pay off, and pay the debts you owe. That shouldn't even need to be said.
I'll agree with everyone else on, the tactics used by collection agencies might work, but they are underhanded and shady. When I get them on the phone regardless of who they are calling for (and they do call for complete strangers) I'll try to waste as much of their time as possible. It's kind of a hobby of mine. Waste their time for wasting mine.
You collection guys can get on a high horse about being morally justified collecting a debt, but no one is ever going to agree with you because you're rude, act like complete jack [***], and make yourselves sound like a scam when you call, because you're stupid and your system is stupid. I am sure it takes a real strong education to take a job like that. That guy who says he is making 100k/year is lying... he's the guy who listens really well at the telemarketer convention and hears about the guy who made that and actually believes that a company whose entire premise is built on lies is telling him the truth about his income potential. Sorry guy, you may have won, but you're wasting your time trolling websites instead of collecting debts.- Call type: Debt collector
- Mary Rowe replies to Susan| 5 repliesThey aren't getting tricky, they are doing what they have to do to stabalize the economy, debter. Pay your damn bills and they won't call. How's it feel to be a waste of space?
- Look out. replies to Mary RoweEasy, Mary.
- Mr. Justice replies to bill-payer| 1 replywhy would you read this website and take the time to respond in their defense.....unless you are CRS systems? the basic point is ..yes, there are people who dont pay their bills. and their are legal collection agencies that operate WITHIN the scope of the law to attempt to collect debts. and then their is CRS. no documentation via mail. no address given. they refuse to give out any info on themselves. they harrass, hang-up when confronted, always going after 3rd parties over 30 year old imagined debt. this is called attempted "identity theft" . or are you ignorant/naive?
- i-pay-my-bills-too replies to Mr. Justicethey don't go after 30 year old debts, third parties are legitimate ways to contact debtors, and they send three dunning letters - with their address and phone number on it (as well as the notice of important rights, the mini miranda, the original creditor and the amount owed), before they even make a phone call on the account, soooooo - if you ignored the mail, that was stupid, and if you didn't update your address with your creditors... also stupid.
- hahaha replies to Fyodorhe has that time because he makes bank - do you make 15k a month wasting the time of beginner-debt-collectors?
- MH| 3 repliesMy mother in law received a call from an Adam Nicks at 866-553-1950. He claimed he was trying to reach me regarding a work issue and had asked her to give him my number. Thank goodness she did not. I looked up this number online and found all these complaints and wished to add mine. I know I do not have any debts to be collected and any person from my work would obviously know how to get hold of me. This is a ridiculous scam.
