i recieved a call from a blocked number (which my phone does not allow) stating that my husband owed money on a credit card, we dont even have a credit card. they gave me a number to call, then threatened to have my local police department show up at my house. then hung up on me. i called the number that she gave me (877-498-5819) the person i was directed to was Ebony Drake. she said we owed over $8000 and the letter would be sent out on the 15th. she wasnt giving me any information, just repeating what she had already said. the only thing she gave me was a fax number to send personal information to. once i got off of the call, i called my local police department and they said it was more than likely a scam.
in our honest opinion, these people are con artists and no matter what they threaten, nothing will happen to you. just pretend your in an episode of leverage. cause thats about as much damage as they can do.

No, nobody got into any system and put you into collections. The scammers are pretending to be a law office and/or a debt collector and trying to scare victims into paying up for fake debts. It's all fake. There are several versions of this scam going on.
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
