- Corrie replies to DudeJust received a letter from them for my husband who is still alive.. Saying their client recently received notification that Quinton $&&&$8& has passed away. Of course to collect debts that he owes.. My husband is in fact alive, sitting beside me as I type this. Definitely a SCAM!
- SueI have received call after call from this company. My mother passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly 2 months ago and the first letter from them showed up in the mail 2 weeks later. The first call came shortly after. They were trying to collect on one of my mother's debts. I informed them on the phone that there was nothing in the estate to "get" - all she owned was a house of very low value. She didn't even own a car and was in a nursing home on Medicaid when she died. All she had was the house and her Social Security income - she didn't even have a bank account when she died, because her income was being sent directly to the nursing home. They repeated that they were not trying to collect from me personally, only from the estate. I repeated back that there was nothing in the estate. Then they asked if I wanted to set up a payment arrangement. I lost it with them at this point - and YELLED back at them "Set up a payment arrangement WITH WHAT?? What do you not understand about this?? The estate is empty! There is nothing to get!" They finally told me they'd note the account, but the calls and letters would continue. I told them to go right ahead - I have a call blocker and a shredder!!

- Concerned DaughterMy mother has been paying my deceased fathers debt to this company. She has paid over 7000 of an almost 10000 credit card debt. It was not in her name. Not a joint account. Not even an authorized user. Has anyone been able to be reimbursed through this company? I

- Chris replies to AngelaThank you, this was very helpful
- Knowledgeable DaughterMy mother passed away 1 month ago. My brother and I have been paying her debts for a long time and after her death we paid everything off. We received a letter from Phillips and Cohen wanting to get in touch with whom ever was responsible for her estate. I googled this company and found this site. I knew it had to be a scam since we knew every debt she had and made sure we paid everything off. Her credit card was paid in full every month and we made sure it was paid off promptly after her death. We will NOT be responding to this letter and if they call we will not give them any information. I just hate that some people will be scammed by these people!

- Howie| 1 replyMy father-in-law passed away about 1 year ago. Last week, we mother got a phone call Phillips and Cohen Associates. The caller indicated thatt my in-law has an out standing debt and they are asked to collect it. Two days later she received a letter from P&C and ask her to this number to about the debt. The letter wasn't signed. I did some research and am sure it it a scam.
It turn out my in-law notified the bank to switch the card to her name because she lost her husband. The info was entered into a credit card database and anyone can purchase it. I believe P&C purchase the data and are calling all deceased relatives to collect money. I told my in-law to hang up the phone if they called again. It is a SCAM.- Caller: Phillips and Cohen Associates

- BigA replies to HowieTake the time to read the other posts, because on page 3 of this thread, I made a post that clearly tells you what you need to do and to know. You only have a 30 day window from the time you received that letter to assert your rights.©

I called this number back and asked what they wanted and was told , well we cannot give you that information. So you call me and you refuse to tell me why you called ( makes sense don't it ?? ) He said, do you want me to remove your number from our list, i said pal do whatever makes you happy, because it must not be important to you as to why you are calling. This is the message left on my cellphone, which I keep very personal. There is no reason for anyone to be questioning my father’s “estate” or anything else at this point. Very hurtful.- Caller: Unidentified

- DCE| 2 repliesPhillips & Cohen are a legitimate law office that does debt collections. They are not scammers.
The office I work from deals with them on a pretty regular basis inasmuch as our office does a lot of probate work. Some people die with enough money to pay for their debts (and most Wills will instruct the executors to pay any and all debts first). While the executor and the family members are not personally responsible for the decedent's debts, the executor is obligated to pay the debts from the assets of the estate.
My biggest complaint about this process is that it occurs so quickly after a loved one has passed. In my opinion there should be a grace period following someone's death to give the family time to grieve their loss.
I feel bad that people have to endure these calls; however, Phillips & Cohen are doing their job in trying to collect the debts that are owed.- Call type: Debt collector
- DCE replies to AlfalfaWhat ever became of this?
- VickiCalled at almost 9 pm on my cell. Wanted to know if he was talking to the person in charge of my late husband's estate. I couldn't understand his name or the name of the law firm he said he was calling from. I think the same people called me before on my land line.

- Vicki replies to DCE| 1 replyIf this is a legit law firm and they have people's phone numbers then they also have an address. I do not give out information to unknown callers, no should anyone. If they have a claim they need to send a certified letter by mail.
- BigA replies to VickiIt is a company that on paper is legit, but uses illegal collection tactics. If you want to make the calls stop permanently as well as learn what federal and state agencies to report them to, and even how to make them pay you for the harassment, read my post here: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-309-7011/2#p1336274938067063186
