There's a simple rule I follow that prevents anything like this ever happening:

If I didn't think it up myself, I'm not interested.

    It's foolproof.

Got a call twice today 08/04/09 from these people, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Indian accent alright.
A variation of the same story: a $500 WalMart gift card, need to verify the credit card number - which "we already know including the secret three digits on the back" (ouch! not good!)- obviously, lying through their teeth just to get the credit card number.
They did have my previous address right though, and that is strange.

The question is how to get them off my back, like forever?

P.S. The call back number they gave was 866-682-7658.

    Indian named john wilson
I got a call today from this guy above...  I was caustois and asked for a website and phone number to reach him.  he gave me a caller id number as well.  I called super savings today and they were of no help.  I can see from above and realize they get alot of calls.  The long of the short of it.  He tried to get my credit card info for a 500 dollar gift certificate to walmart and a 5 day vaca..  the only catch was 4.95 ship fee.  It just amuses me that he used the name John wilson...  He sounded like he walked out of a quiki mart.

    Hi
i too got a call from a unknown number first on my home number stating that i have won a sweepstake for shopping at Walmart and Target, and the prize is $500 gift card, and 10 Mega pixel sony camera, my wife listened to him and when he asked for confirming the credit card number she got suspicious and asked him to call me. He calls me up and introduces me as James Wilson with employee ID as USG7749,and again repeats the stuff which he told my wife. I outrightly said to him that i am not interested in the offer, which he contradicts saying that this is not an offer but a gift for purchasing at Walmart. He presistently bugs me saying that this is a genuine company will all valid licenses. I hung up on him saying that  i will check with the customer support number which he has given which 1-866-682-7658 when i call no response or automated recording. he again calls me up and when i confront him that when you have the credit card details why do you need confirmation no answer, also when i mentioned that his website is not a secured site he goes one giving some story, after all i tell him that i am not interested in the gift for which he says that this is not a gift, which is quite contrast to the statement he made in the first call.He asks what i think of the call, i told him boldy that its a scam, then he is all fired up and starts picking on me, i got back in the same tone and hung up.
I was pretty sure that he does not have the card(Credit/Debit) numbers and in between the calls i did check my accounts and there is no surprises, however i will continue to monitor them for a certain period to come. Wish all the people do check their accounts on a regular basis so that guys like these will not deprive us of our hard earned money.
So dear all be carefull when anyone asks you for any confirmation about the cards irrespective if you have or not.
    thanks

I also got a call from Steve telling me that I was chosen by Walmart as their valued customer of the month.  I, too, could receive many lovely gifts - I could even choose the color!  All I needed to do was pay $4.95 for shipping. I saw no mention of this drawing on Walmart's website which I mentioned to Steve. He directed me to journeypath.com., a member of Better Business. I told Steve if this were true, it would have the Better Business seal on it.  He would not give me an address or phone number.
I wish these scammers could be caught and punished.....perhaps maimed.

Here's a suggestion when the caller is Steve, journey path, or super savings :
If you have a small child, put them on the phone for awhile to chat. If there's no children, either ask the caller to wait a minute while you answer the door. Then, leave him waiting until he hangs up. If you have a whistle, blow it hard into the phone.

I just received a call from this number and, thinking it was one of the colleges I have been looking into on the west coast, answered.
Honestly, I thought he had the wrong number or something because I couldn't understand anything he said, and I even tried to be polite and ask him to repeat what he said.
He mentioned my name and something about Wal-Mart or Walgreens coupons. After telling the guy I wasn't interested for the fifth time, I blasted terrible rap music into the speaker until he hung up. I received another call, from the same number, a few minutes ago. I hope they enjoy my voicemail.
