The Utility User Tax, or UTT, includes a telephone user tax, an electricity user tax, and a gas user tax. These taxes are collected by the County of Los Angeles through the telephone, electricity and gas utility providers. The utility providers include the tax assessment with each bill. The tax is only charged to residents and businesses in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County – those areas not located within the boundaries of a city. By way of example, residents of the Cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are not residents of the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County

I got the same letter today only mine says I was denied for insufficient information, but when you go to the webisite for the claim administrator it says that the utility companies are supposed to have provided this information to the court after you submit the claim form, which was the authorization for the utility companies to furnish that info to the court.  So, I'm thinking, scam.  No one will ever get a cent from the utility companies if all they have to do is refuse to provide the payment amounts.  My letter didn't even give dates for the bills they want copies of.  They just said the claim "may" be reviewed if I send all documentation within 45 days.  What documentation?  The letter doesn't say what they want!  Hope someone can help us with all of this.

I have the same message for gas and electric plus ATT too. I too can not recall ever submitting a claim form. Very strange.  But, looking at my past bills, approx $2.00 was charged every month on my bills  for this LA UTT charge from the gas and electric companies.  Hey if they go back 3 or 4 years a settlement of a couple of hundted dollars would be nice,  but one line says I could get a tax refund? then another line says I would receive compensation as soon as "practicale" WHAT IS THIS ABOUT.  I would hunt for old bills for $300.00 and if its for real!

I saw everyone in my office that did the same thing on filing and got the same letter being rejected due to lack of info. But today two of us got checks. One person got $400. The other person got $35. I haven't got my check yet. These people got their letters two weeks before the check.

We did not get a call from this number but a letter stating they are denying the claim form we submittted.  We never submitted any claim forms, this is the first time we've heard of this.  We do not keep utility bills for more than one year so how can we submit hard copies of past utility bills?

A while ago I was asked to give account numbers for the utilities.  I was not asked for copies of bills.  Just got home from vacation and found a check for $1050 in my mailbox.  Cool!
