- Resident47 replies to Alfalfa| 3 repliesSometimes a consumer's response works in spite of being flawed, being fed into the same sloppy system which generates the flawed collection tactics we're fighting. That doesn't remove a need for due diligence. When I pull my debt dispute letters from several years ago, I'm aghast. I've made some pretty dumb errors which should have gotten me sued, but for unknown reasons I wasn't.
In the same vein, you don't want to be a potential FDCPA litigant without knowing exactly what it can and cannot do for you. Our opponents exploit our ignorance with glee, and expel derisive chuckles at all the civil complaints they can duck-shoot for being reckless and misinformed. In comments I like to point to resources lacking a horse in anyone's race -- precisely to avoid misinformation, which I catch all the time from people paid to know better.
Returning your compliment(s), I wouldn't nudge you here and there if I didn't value your input and passion. - Alfalfa replies to Resident47Agreed. I think just the fact we have the *nerve* to become informed consumers and challenge their litigation machines irks them to no end. They know damn good and well the System is flawed--why else would they be taking advantage of those who are unsophisticated?
Thanks. After literally being steamrolled by one of those machines, I made it my mission in life to educate myself and not allow it to happen again. To make a long story short, I was sued for a debt--even after making it clear to them (and their "Clients") in my answer that I wanted to settle. Their response was loud and clear: "You have REFUSED to pay and we are going to CRUSH you by every legal means we have at our disposal". The legal term for this is subjugation--or to defeat or conquer--and the end justified the means. To say they are ruthless is the understatement of the decade--and they are so powerful that not even a government consumer protection agency could prosecute them. What does this tell us?: Simply put--the System is designed to punish unsophisticated consumers and reward those who have the money and political power to thwart effective debt collection reforms. - EPalmerDoesnt any one have better things to do with themselfs other than HARASS people with stupid fraudulant calls?????????? GET A REAL JOB
- ConnieThey are horrible people. I've written to them now 4 times stating they can not call me at work. They are breaking the law by doing that as well as they have threatened me on numerous occasions. I ask them to show me something in writing of anything I might owe and I would be glad to pay it but they never do and they say things like the contract you signed on line is good enough. Well I'm sorry but from 2007 I need to see some proof before I give them a debit card number over the telephone. One of the guys said that he was going to be coming to my work in a few minutes to serve me and then I would be scared of him. I checked out where he said he was calling from and that doesn't even exist. I have filed a complaint against them with the Fair Trade Commision and the Better Business Buruea. I'm totally sick of their harrassment. I guess if they want to do something to me step up to the plate and quit playing these ridiculous games of intimidation because until they show me in writing any debt I may have then they can kiss my backside :)

- Sweetie| 1 replyThese people have called me telling my boyfriend owes a company money. I asked how they got a hold of my number, the guy told me hes guessing it was on the applicate loan he is collecting for. I start in on this guy, i told him that me and my boyfriend did not know each other at that point in time so I don't know how my number could of been on it. Then i asked him if he knew what privacy laws were and he didn't really answer me so i just went off on him about I am not married to my boyfriend so any information he gave me is not for my knowlegde. He then told me he was going to end the call and hung up on me. I called him back and continued yelling at him. He became extremly rude at this point. So ok whats up, and do you want to talk to someone that cares?, and he said yeah yeah yeah privacy laws, but you are family will to take care of this. I told me again that it did not matter since I am not married to my boyfriend. Then i asked for the companys name he was not forth coming with that information until i asked for a second time. I told him to send me the information since my boyfriend's address is public record. he gave me an address that is extermly old. After i said i would not give him the address of my boyfriend's whereabouts, he asked for an email address i said no. He then gave me the Office number for the "company" which i have found on here. I am mad beyond belief on these people. My boyfriend is a veteran and did two tours in the middle east. he fought for the freedom of this country and people like the ones working at this company are a disgrace to everything he fought for.

- Sweetie replies to Kenneth MercadoIt may have been real for you but Why is a company From New York calling me in Wisconsin for my boyfriends debt. They are saying he took out a loan while he was in Iraq with U.S. Bank, and are saying they got my number on his paperwork from that loan but since I did not meet my boyfriend until 2012 it is hard to believe I am on that application. So I'm sorry, they are running a fraud company and covering it up with some real debts.
- Sweetie replies to SweetieThis number is also the number they gave me for their main office. They call me from 716-656-9630.

- HGNThey keep calling me to get in contact with my husband about some "debt" he owes / we owe. My husband has immaculate credit and we make payments on everything on time. We have never had anything written off or sent to collections. They keep calling and giving me nasty attitude about taking <my husband> to court. I have told them 10 times to stop calling and that this is not <my husband's name>'s phone number.
I didn't mention I was his wife, why should I give them info when they keep telling me they can't give me the details of this supposed "debt" because I am not the party they are calling for. Finally I called them back in a rage and the woman who answered gave me a ton of attitude. "Don't call here and give me attitude, I didn't call you and I don't know who you are" is what she said. I told her take my effin' number off their list because I am not <my husband's name> and that person cannot be reached on my phone. After 3 minutes of yelling she finally said she removed my number but I highly doubt it.- Call type: Debt collector
- Fed Up!!| 2 repliesThe first call I received from this "company" was last week. When the female stated why they were calling, I told her they were a f*cking scam which she replied with "excuse me? excuse me?" I said you heard me and don't call my number again and hung up. She called back immediately, I answered by saying 'didn't I tell you not to call my phone' and proceeded to curse her out. I told her two other companies have already tried this scam with me, with the same script, that you don't tell someone over a phone that a lawsuit is being filed, that you serve them with something. I again told her not to call my phone and her response was "I'll call every day". I told to go ahead so I could file a harassment suit against her "company." I hung up and again she called back so I turned my radio as loud as it could go and for two minutes let her listen to Drake and Lil' Wayne. On that day the calls were from a 716 number. Today the 866 number called with a recorded message about obtaining a statement for a lawsuit so for my entertainment I pressed 1. When the lady who answered, gave me the script again, I told her she was a scam artist and hung up. I find it so humorous how angry they get when you tell them it's a scam. And for the two post on here stating it's legit, I'm sure it someone from the company telling more lies. I can't wait until the next call to string them along, do they honestly think people are that dumb? I will admit the first time I ever got a call like this, I was freaking out until I realized what they were saying was so unbelievable!

- FirstTDIn the last 3 days I have received 3 different phone calls from 3 different states YET they have all left the same call back number for Legacy......
#228-236-3593 Gulfport, MS
#423-823-5561 Tenessee, USA
#484-538-2281 Allentown, PA
They never say who they are calling for or where they are calling from yet they want to verify an address (of a cell phone) for some legal delivery? Riiiiight. Real process servers do not call you ahead of time if you are going to be served.
I do not know or have any business with these people.
So, if Legacy is in New York, how are they calling from these other states?
Isn't spoofing numbers illegal?
Isn't implying or threatening legal action illegal?
Not that this business is legit anyways.
So tired of these scammers, telemarketers, etc. I never answer my phone anymore unless it's a number I recognize. The no call list is a joke. I can't beleive the government won't do anything about these jerks.- Caller: Legacy
- FirstTDAdd an Arizona number to the above list......they are now calling from #480-422-2873 Phoenix, Arizona
