- bradley| 1 replySo i was being billed 40$ a month as well for this smart step, but i simply called them and cancelled it. apparntley its some kind of accidental death insurance. I filed a fraud claim with them, and a week letter they send me a recording of when i talked to some dude. i must have been drunk or something, but they have the recording of me agreeing. for all of u i would suggest calling them and requesting a tape recording of u signing up. Now i just feel like an idiot. i did speak with a supervisor and she actually got me my money back.
- the guy that hates this scam| 2 repliesthey called me, i said ok. they said they would send me paperwork. I said ok good. I hung up the phone and relized how stupid i was to agree but i figured the paper work would come in and i could cancel. Paperwork came in, but said i had to sign before it was activated, so i didnt sign. They started drawing out of a side account i had that i only add money to so i was clueless until now. I hope they burn in hell. i just called a friend at the bank and hes going to see what he can do. Maybe they send paperwork and call you. I guess you only have to agree to one of them. Thell send you a tape or your signature. What [***].
- Mel replies to bradleyI called this number to get a refund of a fee I never agreed to for Life Insurance Policies for my husband and myself. "Nina" said that I agreed by phone to the life insurance policies and I asked her to send me a copy of the recorded confirmation of that agreement. I thought she would drop her teeth. I talked to them on 3 separate occasions and told them that I didn't want it and to stop calling me. 5 months later (after they said I agreed to immediate coverage) I get a draft from my bank account. What a load of crap they selling. They only insurance they offer is that they will take money out of your account.
- Xtina replies to the guy that hates this scam| 1 replySame thing happened to me, along with several other Bank Of America customers.
File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau I did):

This is unethical business practices. A form or something should have to be signed to authorize a automatic deduction from your checking account!! This isn't a credit card where are charges can be easily disputed/reversed, it's our checking account, they are deducting it directly from there! It pisses me off! How dare Bank Of America give them our checking account numbers? We should file a claim against them, too. I'm seriously thinking about closing my account with BofA.
Let's not let this company get away with this!!
Here's SmartStep's contact information, you'll need it when you file the complaint:

- F**k Bank Of America and SmartStep| 1 replyWell, last week I was approached by my mom; she was very sad and told me that her money was gone. In addition to that she now owed Bank of America due to overdraft fees. Turns out that these as*h*les called and told her that they were calling from BOA, then they enrolled her in this bullcrap ripoff Insurance called SmartStep. I called BOA and they dont want to do anything about it. I called SmartStep and they said that she made a contract with them... Fu**en [***], i hope that the money they are stealing from people ends up fu**ing their lives. I'm sorry people but im pissed off..

- Dee replies to SusOn November 5, 2008, $40.00 was taken from my BOA account to pay for Smart Step Accidental Death Insurance. I had called and cancelled this insurance on October 31, 2008 and received a confirmation number. I called 1-800 879-0179 on November 13, 2008 and talked to a representative named Jessica. It was the usually blah, blah, blah...the first representative I had talked to had "failed" to send the cancellation request in to the corporate headquarters. I'm supposed to get a refund within the next 10 business days. WE'LL SEE! I'm still going to call BOA and give them all the info I have on this.

- Jeanne replies to MamabucksI had to cancel my smart step account yesterday. Call the bank they withdrew the money from, and they have to give you the phone number.
Tell them your dad has a medical condition and it affects his memory and thoughts, and he needs that money. See what happens, good luck. - Jeanne replies to MamabucksI had to cancel my smart step account yesterday. Call the bank they withdrew the money from, and they have to give you the phone number.

- A FOOLwell, I faced the same trouble. they called and I said I won't decide till I receive the paper work to know what would I get out of this insurance. they just took $40 from my account. now, my trouble is not with these, my troubles are with BOA. first, I called them when the transaction was pending, they told me sir we'll stop it. then the next day when the transaction was cleared, they said, sir we'll send paper work for your complain and then I went myself to BOA and the lady called them and they said they will get back my money in 7 to 10 business days. now,
1- BOA gave them my account details and my phone numbers without a permission.
2- BOA lied to me 3 times so far because if you call that number 1-866-879-0179 , the agent who receives your call will say welcome to BOA.
3- after all, BOA will keep giving yours and my info to others unless you pay for another service ID protection.
4- if something happends to BOA, the who USA gov will stand by that bank and they will Support even using our BLOOD.
what the hill are we talking about, we're talking about someone who's rolling USA and maybe the world.
my $40 is nothing but from millions it's another fortune for these SLAYERs.
so, with BOA, you have to pay this way or the other.

- David CHey Just kinda thbrowing it out there but there are tons of people who are all being screwed by this company. My wife has had 30 dollars a month taken from her account that she doesnt use and now she has tons of over draft fees. I contacted them to stop the plan and they continued to charge her for some time now. I have spoken to them and they keep giving me the run around. Im actually considering talking to Nick Mackey he is my attorney here in charlotte north carolina and I wonder if a class action law suit would be in place these people are praying on the elderly and the unknowing. I live in a house where three of the 6 people speak english very well. Who is to say that they wouldnt pray on people who dont speak english very well and dont what they are sighning up for. I think there are alot more people out there who are being affected by this and I believe that doing somthing about it will bring more of them out. any comments suggestions or ideas????

- none replies to MamabucksThis seems to be a major insurance fraud. They just hit my Bank Of America Account for $40. The phone number that the bank gave me is 866-879-0179 and they do answer the phone Bank Of America. I called the State of Florida Insurance Commissioner's office. This company is not licensed to do business in the State of Florida. I am sending them all the information that I have on the company. My suggestion to any one out there is to contact the Insurance Commissioner in your state. When on the phone to this company they claimed to be in Illinios. Haven't contacted that state yet to see if they are licensed to do business there. But hopefully I can get them shut down in Florida. Good luck to all of you others out there that have been scammed by these people.
- Joan replies to CBlittlefoot| 1 replyI just noticed my account has been charged $40.00 for 15 months for SmartStep Insurance. Took the 30 day free offer and then cancelled. Informed no charge would be applied. Never thought to check it. The amount seemed high for an accidental death policy. I notified them the funds were wrongfully removed and was told they would send me a letter. Not good enough, I want my cash back that was wrongfully taken from my account. I never authorized this charge. By the way, I found they had an an unauthorized name on my account. When I went to make a change, I was told I had to ask this other person's permission. What a Joke! I wasn't laughing. Name was Susan and the teller said she must have lived at my address sometime. If she did, she was a ghost. Now I wonder if the Susan and SmartStep are connected. Either way, I am requesting a Federal Regulation E form from them today. Enough of their nonsense.
- litfamil replies to OscIt happen to me also. call BOA and file a claim throuh their cliam departmnet. My claim is being investigated now. Hope it works, because i don't remember authorizing this insurance.
- JMN replies to Mamabucks| 1 replyIt's ridiculous how many posts there are about this subject! My husband is getting ripped off too! I finally reported last month's charge as a fraudulent charge to Bank of America and they refunded my husband's overdraft fees and the one charge for that month. Bank of America always says that they can't do anything with it. I'm reporting them to the Attorney General!
