They can not call you at your place of employment once you verbally tell them to stop that it will get you into trouble and or fired. Verbal is good for a short time, 7 to 10 days, I don't recall for sure.
    You must follow up with a written letter sent by  U.S. Mail --ONLY !!  Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested;
you pay a small fee for the return receipt for your records proving they received your letter to stop all calls.

THIS IS IMPORTANT-->> MAKE SURE YOU SEND THE CERTIFIED LETTER TO A PHYSICAL ADDRESS.

----->>  NOT A P.O. BOX AND DEFINITELY NOT BY E-MAIL.

U.S. Mail , certified mail return receipt to their physical address is the ONLY proof a court of law accepts and the collection agency knows this.

Always keep a copy of all letters or such that you send a collection agency.
Never admit to owing any debt. Whether you owe it or not. You could violate your rights under the statute of limitations
    of your particular state.

I'm not attorney however I refer to debt I owe as   -->>THE  ALLEGED DEBT

NEVER FORGET-----  ALL, I MEAN ALL  COLLECTION AGENCY'S LIE.  Never trust any collection agency !

Personally I have never and never will do business with a collection agency over the telephone !!
Any time I ever had business with a collection agency I demanded and stuck to doing the business by
    U.S. Mail only !!  ( and I do not mean e-mail )

    By  U.S. Mail ONLY !!!!!

Something to keep in mind,  collection agency's are well known for scamming people.

Always remember if you make any type of lump sum payoff for a reduced amount; you really should have
an attorney write you an agreement letter and or read the one from the collection agency-- before you sign or agree
    to anything.

Collection agency's will scam you.  They will send you a letter saying pay 50% now in a lump sum and they
will consider the debt settled with them: and they really mean them in a strict sense.
Meaning it will not and is not fully settled with the next collection agency they sell the remaining debt to.

Next thing you know is your getting letters from another collection agency saying you owe such and such.
In this case , the other 50%.

Never allow automatic payments from your bank account or credit card  !!     I  MEAN  NEVER ......

They alter the amount on their own, lot of times emptying your bank account and or over-drawing it.

I found on one of the federal websites , I don't recall but I think it was the F.T.C. that said to never allow
collection agency's access to your bank account !!

Never pay by any type of check or other instrument from your bank account. Don't even buy the money order
    from your own bank !

Best place and I mean the only best place to buy a money order is the U.S. Post Office.

U.S. Postal Money orders are the best in my opinion. No way to connect to your personal banking account.
and what could be better to trust to buy your money order at than the U.S. Govt.

Collection agency's trying to pull crap that involves a postal money order or certified mail run the risk of
    U.S. Postal Fraud  !!!

I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY.  MY ADVICE IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ONLY.  I DON'T ALLOW COLLECTION AGENCY'S TO PULL CRAP ON ME.

p.s.  Get online and print a copy of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
One part that a lot of people don't follow or such is__ UNDER THE LAW-- DEMAND THE COLLECTION AGENCY
TO " VALIDATE THE DEBT " " PROVE YOU OWE IT " " PROVE THEY HAVE A LEGAL RIGHT TO COLLECT IT"
THERE ARE WAY , WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO PAY A DEBT TO A VOICE ON THE PHONE THAT CALLS OUT
           OF THE BLUE.
PAYING A STRANGE VOICE THAT CALLS OUT OF THE BLUE IS TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE !!!!
PAYING A DEBT TO ANYONE, VOICE ON THE PHONE OR LETTER FROM A COMPANY.

    You call an attorney.

In todays economy, there are tons of attorneys willing to take Fair Debt Collection Practices Act lawsuits on
contingency basis. ( no out of pocket cost to you ) They get paid when and only when they win your case.
The collection agency pays their  ( your attorney ) fee's. You get paid also.
That is the only thing that get's the collection agency's attention. ( AS IN STOPPING THEM FROM VIOLATING YOUR
    RIGHTS UNDER THE F.D.C.P.A.

    Do not e-mail them !

    Obtain a physical address   ( NOT A P.O. Box )

Send them a letter by  U.S. Mail , Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. That way you have proof you mailed them the letter and proof they received it when they sign the little green card.
Keep copies of all letters or such you mail them. Staple your post office receipts to your letter.
Also, staple the little green post card / return receipt you get back in the mail when your letter is signed for by them.

ALL PROOF YOU NEED WHEN YOU SUE THEM FOR VIOLATING YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE  Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
