A little paranoid? It shows up as "capone" because they have the number listed. I can promise that you are not important enough for capitol one to hack into your phone remotely just to add their name into your contact list.

I've been a collector for a long time. Trust me when I tell you that a good collector will not stop calling you because you read the FDCPA over the phone. People do that all the time thinking it will annoy the collector and stop the calls. In reality it only makes them call you more.

While this may sound good legally it doesn't work in reality. It is common practice in collections to use cell phones for this very reason. Cell phone calls cant be recorded and the collector will later claim they were never advised not call. Just being honest.

He listed you as a reference on the original credit application. Give them his phone number and ask them in return not to call again.

Financial institutions purchase several different phone numbers because they dont want you to know who is calling. If they only used one number people who are avoiding calls would never answer. An outbound collections call comes from a department based in the US. If you call the same number back the call is routed to the lowest level of customer service. This means that calling a finance company back will never get you to the same department who called you. Its simply logistics.

Most likely they called someone you listed as a reference who gave them your cell phone number. Its equally likely they obtained it from another creditor listed on your credit report. Creditors are allowed to exchange "location information" with each other as long as they don't disclose any other information. Its called skip tracing.

That wont work. Finance companies like capitol one change their collections numbers regularly to thwart this type of avoidance.

That is not a violation of the FDCPA. In fact they are required by law to inform you that all attempts to collect a debt will continue. Sounds pretty straight forward to me.

At the vehicle finance company I worked for it was fairly common for collectors to receive bonuses in excess of $5000 per month. The top collectors were bringing in $10-13k in bonuses in addition to their regular salary. I'd be willing to bet that's more than you'd make at McDonald's.

Everyone should thank our politicians for our credit situations.... I was hurt on the job and for 6 years have been fighting the system but have kept current on all bills missed one payment, my interest rate went up, have been harassed daily eventhough I am current on bills and the latest scam from them is they want to offer you a job?....hahah yeah right!
Never think they are your friends and they do not want to help they are trained to do and say anything they can to collect not just what is due but more and after you have paid your account off they call to let you know they want you back as a customer and that they have increased your credit limit...wow
Good luck to all, I have gone back to the way of paid in full or nothing!!!
FYI>>What pisses the credit card companies off more than anything is to buy something on credit and pay off your bill in full by the due date, you have now used their money for free for 30 days and had that much time to get the money together to pay off your purchase, THEY HATE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS!!!! DOING THIS COSTS THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY MONEY TO PROCESS YOUR PURCHASE, THE PAPERWORK, IF YOU HAVE A CASH BACK ON YOUR CARD THEY HAVE TO GIVE YOU MONEY BACK FOR THESES PURCHASES, I THIS EVERY TIME I BUY ANYTHING NOW I HAVE EVEN GOTTEN A CALL THAT THEY WILL CANCEL MY CREDIT CARD IF I KEEP DOING THIS SO USE IT FOR A $100.00 PURCHASE SPLIT IT INTO TWO PAYMENTS MAKE THEM REDUCE YOUR INTEREST RATE AND START ALL OVER!!!!!  YOU ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY FROM THEM...FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE IS MY MOTTO NOW!!!!!!

I keep getting these calls from Capital One also.  They are for the guy who had my cell phone number before it was reassigned to me.  I have called them several times explained the situation yet they continue to harass me.  So I have come up with a solution.  Since they seem to like to harass the innocent we can do the same to them.  If everyone they called in turn calls them back at least ten times we could flood their phones.  Maybe they would finally listen and remove the names of the innocent.
