- My, my, my replies to TinaYou are simply a rah-rah cheerleader for this bunch of criminals aren't you? You have made sure that you have only answered posts from 2009 so you won't incur any replies as well. We know for a fact this outfit is not anywhere close to being as nice as you claim, that they routinely break the law, just as they probably did in your instance, and that in general they are miserable criminals who all should be put back into jail.
- Chad Haven replies to none| 1 replyYou are very condescending. No one stops paying a debt. Layoffs occur, illness, death etc. watch your statements.
- Yoda1725 replies to Chad HavenOther than to be a troll, why are you replying to a 10 year old post that is buried on page 3 of a 27 page thread?
- Attorney Patricia Hammel| 1 replyLaw office of Mitchell Bluhm called my direct line an requested a call back. I'm a lawyer who represents debtors, so with the "reference number" I suspected it was a collection call, but since they called my law office and it could be one of my clients I tried to call back.
When the receptionist heard they had called an attorney, she asked for the number they called and said they would transfer me, but after five minutes on hold I figured they weren't interested in talking to me and hung up. When I tried them again the phone just rang (they removed the number and will not answer now).
You should always request verification of any debt you do not recognize. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires them to verify it. Also in Wisconsin they could not sue on a debt that is more than six years old (if no payments have been made for six years), at least not a medical debt.
Lawyers who do collections do run collections operations out of their law firms; and some buy debts. There are a few in NY, MN, etc. who do that as their primary practice and get a percentage of what they collect. If the debt is legitimate and the statute of limitations (six years in WI) has not expired, they can call you, but not very early or late in the day, and they shouldn't threaten to do what they can't legally do (e.g. have you arrested; that's a common illegal practice).- Caller: Law Office of Mitchell Bluhm
