Call them back and have the number removed.  Although you feel like they are targeting you,  they don't want to be wasting their resources calling the WRONG number.  Call them and let them know they have the wrong number and it will be removed.

This is a 3rd party collections office, nothing more. They are NOT a lawyer's office at all. Plainly put, a lawyer has sold them the use of his NAME so they can frighten people into paying their debts more effectively. They buy old medical debts from hospitals, ambulances, etc. for pennies on the dollar (the original debts have been "charged off" by the hospitals or ambulances, etc and sold to the Mitchell Blum business) so you are dealing with paid telemarketers who have nothing at all in the area of legal expertise----etc. They are telemarketers, not lawyers/paralegals, etc. You have nothing to worry about. Simply answer your phone and tell them "wrong number" and they will remove you from their computer systems.

These are well known liars and scam artists trying to make a profit from whatever amount of money you offer them as payment. Example: Your original bill was $100. They buy your debt from the hospital/doc office/ambulance svc for $20. They still bill you for $100, threatening "legal action" because they are a "law firm" (yea right) and you pay them $100. They've just made a profit of $80---because you have believed they were a "law firm" and you don't want to be garnished, right?

Get with it people. Learn when you are dealing with telemarketers who are commission-driven.

Actually, it is an attorney's office.  No one tries to use "scare tactics" on small balances.  You know,  if you paid your bill to the original creditor in the first place, then you wouldn't have to worry about it anyways.  Duh.

What do these crooks do during a break from the boiler room -- why, they come on here to spew LIES. Funny there is a higher volume of this crap on Fridays from these all these clowns, that's when the figure out they might not make their quota for the week LOL.

Not only will they use scare (ILLEGAL) tactics on "small balances" they will use them on fake balances too.

If the debt is legit you can still pay the original creditor and tell these crooks to take a hike. Now take a hike back to the boiler room "none" and keep working those scare tactics on your victims, your work here is done!

I got it this morning and it seemed inappropriate behavior for a lawyer.  Despite what previos posters have said, we are not all deadbeats.  Mine was an ambulance bill from 10 years ago.  The ambulance company waited 3 years to tell me that insurance hadn't paid the bill because THEY filed the paperwork wrong.  Insurance said it was too late to refile.  Did I mention that the ambulance ran out of gas on the way to the hospital to transport me for a heart attack?!!??!!  At the time I didn't have the money to pay (that's why I had insurance) and now i won't pay on principal.

You obviously have not noticed that it is NOT ONE BAD APPLE!  ITS BUSHELS OF BAD APPLES - who are hired SPECIFICALLY to break FED And STATE laws.

Are there decent law-abiding collection agencies - YOU BET that is the reason why you NEVER see the GOOD ones on the complaint boards.  They do not violate the law and they do not try to collect worthless debt!

BS - NONE - YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AS USUAL.

Paying off an collection DOES NOT IMPROVE your credit rating.   It stays on for 7 years regardless.  IF YOU TELL A DEBTOR - YOU ARE LYING AND ITS ILLEGAL TO TELL ANYONE THAT!

The Law Office of Mitchell D Bluhm and Associates is a real law office, we just have a license to collect. Our client buys debt from medical providers that are trying to rid themselves of old outstanding bills. Every collector in our office is an experienced professional at doing their job and if an agruement happens on the phone, just asked to speak to a member of management. We try very hard to explain to patients why the charges are due and if the information we provide is not enough, then the patients has to request the information in WRITING. Due to the HIPPA laws and the forever changing FDCPA, which are the laws we are governed by, we will not leave voice messages unless it is with a third party. So please call in and treat the collector with the same respect you want and we will help you even if you chose to do otherwise

We are not criminals and if you try to pay the orginal creditor they could apply the balance to any outstanging bill that is still outstanding that they havent sold to a debt buyer. It is best to work with our office to get the account resolved. As for the comment of us making up lies, we actually have meetings to address the situation on how to help debtors out more, and the best tactics to where we still do no break the law. We do not allow our collectors to break the law or they could lose their job. Must of our collectors are in college trying to better themselves. People sometimes do not realize that we did not create the bill and our sole purpose is to help people get their accounts resolved in a timely way before matters are placed on their credit report. so please help us help you

A Kaylee (spelling?) has called me numerous times at work during the day and continuously.  When she first called me, she identified herself as being with the law firm of Mitchell Blum.  Now I find out that they are not a law firm but a collection agency!  Isn't this false misrepresentation among other things such as harrassment, etc.?

So let's see we have the "I am not a crook" posts and "pay your bills" posts and "I forgot about my debt and these guys helped me so much" crock from the collectors. Then we have the posts from the people (victims) whose experiences are categorically opposite of the "I am not a crook" posts.

Who to believe??? Hmmm. That's what nice about this site, it's so damn OBVIOUS.

Whether it's one bad apple or not, they're calling for someone that's NOT ME!  I owe no money!  I've had this phone number for over 20 years, and they're asking for someone that evidently just gave out my number.  I am being harassed!

I am getting calls every day from these people who will go to any lengths to get your money. The attorney General for the state of Texas states that harrassing calls and threats are illegal. I have reported them for threatening to ruin my credit. I had urgery at Memorial Hermann in 2003, and paid my bill up front. I never received a bill after that, and now, in 2009, this company wants $1000.00 nearly for unpaid bills in 2003. Isn't there a limit on this? I am also taping every converstion I have with them, and have the cancelled checks to prove I owe no money. They want those cancelled checks of course. They even want me to put the debt on a credit card. Don't do business with this firm They are scams.

A debt which has been paid is no longer a debt. The debt collectors don't care about that. I got a call from these people six years after my original surgery. The staute of limitations in the state of Texas is four years. These peopl are banking on you not knowing this. I have been called every day for the past week. I finally told them I don't have to talk to them. I got a call on a Saturday. I am waiting for tomorrow to get another, and yes, record everything that is said.

Then get your facts right. You apparently know nothing about medicine and how billing works. The  law in Texas states that the statute of limitations runs out after four years. You are trying to collect a bill on me after six years which has been paid long ago. Stop using harrassing tactics, and misusing HIPPA regulations. People do not respond kindly to that.
