Register.com also called us the other day and my husband answered.   They wanted to do an update on our information with them and he told them that was not necessary and hung up.  Register.com has called our number 3 times today.

It's legit.. they call to verify your contact info if you own a URL...

    Pretty painless really..

You can do this for yourself by logging into your register.com account and simply verify online that the info on your account is accurate..

Same thing here. Call comes in no one on the line and then it hangs up. It happens several times per day. I just called the number back 10 times in a row and hung up on whoever answered. It was fun. Try it

This number is from Register.com.  They use to host my website.  I told them I don't own a website with them anymore and they said OK and removed my number from their call list.

Call the number and wait for them to answer and say, this is register.com, can I have your domain name. Say nothing. They will repeat this several times. Say nothing. They will finally hang up. Call back immediately and do the same thing. Do it 8 or 10 times in a row. There will only be one of three of four people who will answer. They will get increasingly upset. Now they know our frustration with thier continous calls with no one on the other end. Do it every time they call you by dialing the number back. If enough of us do it, they will get the message. By the way there is a lot of satisfaction in doing this!

REC'D SEVERAL TO A BUSINESS LINE AND GOT FED UP THIS MORNING AND CALLED BACK AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET.  GOT A RECORDING, THEN A HUMAN BEING AND I STATED THAT THIS WAS THE LAST TIME I WAS ADVISING THEM TO STOP CALLING THIS NUMBER AND WANTED MY NUMBER TAKEN OFF OF THEIR LIST.  ADVISED THE GIRL THAT IF I RECEIVED ONE MORE CALL THAT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FTC OR DO NOT CALL DEPARTMENTS AND THAT WE WERE WILLING TO PROSECUTE IF WE HAD TOO.  THOUGHT THAT WOULD END IT, BUT NOOOOO, THEY CALLED AGAIN LATER IN THE DAY AROUND 4:30 AND I LET IT GO TO VOICE MAIL.  NO MESSAGE, BUT I IMMEDIATELY FILED A COMPLAINT ON LINE WITH THE FTC, WHO DIRECTED ME TO THE DO NOT CALL.  EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS TO PUT A STOP.  THEY ARE ONLY ONE OF A FEW.  I HAVE STARTED A LOG TO KEEP TRACT.  ONLY WISH I HAD DONE IT BEFORE!

All I can say is Wow!  Register.com blows.

After being annoyed again by dead air I called the number and got a woman.  I politely asked to be put on their do not call list.  She immediately went into spin mode, explaining they were calling to update their records, courtesy call for expiring domains, etc.  I interruptted her and asked again please put my number on the DNC list.  More spin, another interruption with my request, more spin, finally she starts getting belligerant "you keep interrupting me".  "I don't want to listen to your spin, I just want you to quit calling."  "There's a reason why we call."  "Please stop calling."  Finally I asked for her name, she wanted to know what for, I said I was going to file a complaint, then she took my number and *says* they will not call anymore.  We'll see.

Horrible, horrible customer service, and the sad part is I just renewed a bunch of domains a week ago, so I can't move them to another registrar in protest without costing.  Arrgh.

I keep getting the same thing as everyone else - the phone rings, I pick it up & no one is there. Yes It's annoying, but hey - it's their money making the calls - not mine!

I too have been getting calls from this number, several a day, for the last week or two.  Once or twice I accidentally picked up.  Like others, I found dead space on the other end.  I always hung up, figuring the machine was transferring me to some sales rep.

Thanks for all these comments and reports.  I really appreciate the notice.  It does sound like a scam.  And thanks to whoever set up this site.

It's Register.com. They called to let me know that i was in the last year of owning my domain name and to check if i wanted to re-up with them and extend my domain ownership. Also, they just wanted to check to see if my contact info (email, mailing, etc) were still the same, which they weren't anymore. Call them back, give them your domain name and see what's up.

Got a call from 877-204-5289. I ignored it several times as I was very busy. I should not have. It was Register.com. My domain names had expired. I did not know the registration had expired until I went to get my email and go to my web site. Oops - well I re-registered and everything is fine. The web site went backup immediately.

Don't ignore these calls if you have domain names registered to you.

I started getting the calls a couple of weeks ago and same thing....when I would answer no one was there. I stopped anwering but now they call 3-5 times a day. I saved them in my contacts and gave them no ring tone so I don't even know when they call except when I check missed calls. I do have business with Registar.com but I am current in everything and will not give out info to misc. callers.
