- Lori| 1 replyI got a call from this number at my job. Was told to have me call back. Because I was found guilty of a bad check. My Boyfriend called the number and it was the same as others have stated. The woman on the phone fussed him out and told him to tell me good luck and the police would be there to get me.

- BigA replies to LoriUnless you went ot court and stood in front of a judge for charges filed by the district attorney, you could not have been found guilty of anything.
This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - Ana AReceive calls everyday usually for my husband but, this morning it was naming me as the respondent. The woman states I've committed check fraud, says to refer to complaint number, but number never given, then call ends. In the past my husband has called them back and they also state its regarding a payday loan. We've looked up so called payday deposits with our bank which turns out negative. All scams. I've worked for law firms and we don't call anyone. We either file a complaint and people get served with complaints or we send certified/registered letters by mail, but never, ever call someone and threaten them with legal action.

- I am a land surveyorWe are a land surveying company. My employee received an automated call from (919) 229-4576 while I was out. Recording said a complaint had been filed against my company regarding elevation issues. Determining elevations is one of the things we do, so I thought it was a valid call. The recording said this was reference to "case file number" but no number was ever given. The recording said to call Randy Hernandez at (877) 228-0244, which I did. An automated system answered and put me on hold. I held for over half an hour and no one ever came on the line, so I hung up.

- Helen RadeckeThis number called stating that we needed to call them back, there was legal action possible fraud. If we did not call them back today a summons would be issued. I did call them back and they asked for someone we do not know. Yet they had my husbands name when calling the first time. I called them back and asked the name of their company. Some young man said it was legal outsourcing. This was not the first time they called. And not the first time I told them not to call here again.

They actually called from a 919 area code number and gave the 877# as a call back number and proceeded to give case number, but it was muffled, therefore, number not heard.

- Wes| 2 repliesI got a call from (919) 229-4576 stating something about a civil complaint and allegations of potential fraud. They also stated that I was both the responded and the emergency contact person, they then left a number that I was informed to call by the end of the day . That number was 1-877-228-0244. It was a female voice mixed with automation, it stated nor shared no company name, no name of caller and attempted to leave a case number which was inaudible. I contacted the FBI and reported this scam.

- Sandy replies to DonnaI got a call from 877-444-7750 instructing me to call back to 877-228-0244. She also said to refer to Case No. (pause - none given) It was a robo call within a robo call with my name inserted in a heavy accent. She said I was a respondent in a fraud case. I got a possible id on the 877-444-7750 number which showed a Home Repair Service Center which may be a scam. Since I just signed up for a home repair service thru Source Gas, I'm now thinking they were both scams.....
- Sandy replies to debExactly same thing happened to me. I called back, was sent to an answering machine to leave a message. I gave my name and said I had no idea what this was all about. Not sure if they will call back or not. See my entry below....
- Sandy replies to DenI had replied to the message above in reference to the call back number left of 877-228-0244. The caller came from 877-444-7750. Now after reading your post, I checked back on recent missed calls and sure enough 2 hours after the message was left from 877-444-7750, I got another call from 919-229-4576 (which I ignored). They are really persistent!!!
- WHATS IN A NAME replies to AshleyI got that EXACT same call... I wonder what "bad check" they are talking about... I don't even have a checking account....
