- Melissa ClarkI received a call from a man from Goldberg, Keller, and Brown LLC on thursday May 3, 2012 around 8:30 the phone number he called me from was 1-716-235-5833 in which he said his a name was attorney Tom Gibson. He stated that I borrowed $200 dollars on November 2012 and that the company bought out the people that I borrowed the money to in which Bahama Marketing Group is the original creditors. He asked me for my debit card number to settle the payment from $550 to a total of $350, and $ 9.95 for processing fee. I did give him my information with my debit card and called another source and I was told he was a scam. I went to my bank and filed a complaint and right now it is pending.

- millsy replies to SuzieQ1973I got this same message from the same guy! he told me since i wasn't at my place of residence when he "attempted" to serve me (again, that's a lie, was home all day/all night), he would be coming to my place of employment. he called my job, i pretended i was someone else in the office, he left a message w/a case # that he was a county processor and would be serving "me" papers first thing in the morning & to have a supervisor also available.
- ANNOYEDI received a call from this person when I was unavailable, so my voice mail picked up. The message she left me was insane.
She stated that her name was Veronica Daniels (I assume its made up so as to try and sound more legit) and then stated my name (not my complete legal name, just the one that I generally go by,with no middle name). She said that she was contacting me because I was on schedule to receive some "legal" paper work from the county. That they were going to come out to my residence to serve me,and any other parties involved. That I should have valid Id and a witness present at the time of signing. And that if no one was at home that someone would be escorted to my place of employment to "complete the service of process" and that they would use my supervisor to witness the signing.
She then continues by saying that if I had any questions or concerns or want more info prior to delivery that I could call the "claimants" office directly at 877-290-9007 and discuss this with someone in their office. And unless she received a stop order from the "filing party" that they would be at my residence first, and then my place of employment. Then to please be advised, any other questions I can contact them at 877-290-9007.
Then she ended with the statement that "this has been your legal notification"
And her song and dance started out sounding pretty convincing, but once you start to pick it apart then it ended up with some majorly glaring flaws.
First off, I am not aware of any law enforcement that would give you prior notification to being served papers. They already tend to have a difficult time locating the people in order to be able to serve them the papers (plus its not their job, nor would they pay someone to play secretary for you or them in order to give prior notification). Does it make any since that they would want to take a chance that you would take that notification information and use it to make sure you were NOT there when they tried to serve you.
Second, in the state that I live in, and most states, it tends to be the sheriffs office that will be serving the papers. And it requires the papers be signed by the clerk, assistant clerk, or deputy clerk of the court in the county in which the action is commenced before it can be served. So they are going to notify me the day before all this is going to take place, so that I might contact them and get a "stop order" on the paper serving? How would this work? I contact the "claimant", then they would contact the county court house, who would then in turn contact the sheriffs office, who would then in turn contact the servicing officer to let them know they have changed their minds about going to court and then therefore no longer need the papers to be served. Yeah, that all makes sense. Because they would be saying that this didnt just apply to me, it would apply to ALL the people they were trying to serve papers to. In my county, in my state, in this entire country. Thats a LOT of running around and a LOT of tolerance by the law enforcement community and court houses (which they are of course KNOWN for having in abundance, patience and understanding)
And to clinch it all, I also looked up the number I was given as to be the "claimants" (the 877-290-9007) and there are TONS of info on the web about this either being a scam or some type of collections company. In my experience, the two are not mutually exclusive.
Anyways. I just wanted to share because these companies are getting bolder and bolder in their scare tactics and lies as the economy continues to worsen. And I am sick and tired of not only them harassing me, but them preying on less wary people such as the elderly or inexperienced. Hope this helps someone :-)- Caller: Legal Support Services
- Dee| 2 repliesThey are fishing for information, they only have bits and pieces, they pray on scaring people to call them and pay for debts that are old, bought, or written off. They have some of my information because I had fraud on my account, anyway, best thing to do is ignore them, if they call tell them they have the wrong number, scam them back. If they call ur work tell them as if you are someone else that you don't work there any longer, they will stop for awhile then start again. They even say they are going to serve me papers and issue a warrant for my arrests, bologna. Change your number and deny they are speaking to you if you call. I changed my number and I eventually got rid of them. Make it a fun game and lie your ass off to them.

- Dee replies to Dee| 1 replyPeople, don't ever, ever give your debit card or information over the phone to a debt collecter especially these kind of people. Legitimate debt collectors are not going to threaten you with serving you papers, those papers have to filed in your county court house, if you owe a debt and they have it, it's old, prob payday loans, don't pay them, it has already been on your credit, they are junk debt buyers, let them try to sue you, they wont' for small loans. Send money orders if you must pay them.
- None-YA!I too received a call from a unkown #. I've learned to not answer restricted, unknown calls. So I just patiently waited for whom ever was calling to leave a msg. She finally left a msg today. Her name is Veronica Daniels. The voice mail stated that she had legal papers to serve me with at my house or place of employment. She asked that I call the claim processing # @ 1-877-290-9007 if i had any questions referencing a docket #. Of course I called and the #, Gobert Law Firm is the name of the company. I dont know if this is true or simply someone trying to get money out of me. I only say that to say this, Ive been receiving unknown calls for a while and as of yet been served any legal papers.

- mrs.Very upset at this number. They left a very threatening message on my voicemail that they were coming to my house. They had the wrong number. I called it back to let them know and they were absolutely so rude. I pray that the person they are searching out stays far away from them. What a horrible way to try and collect money.

- agga replies to Sarahliz09I got a call at work, too. This call was from an "attorney", who (in leaving a message with an unknown party at my office) claimed he was looking for me "to serve [me] tomorrow on legal action that NYC Courts have taken against [me]".
No real lawyer would leave such a detailed message with someone other than an involved party!
What crap!! AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!
