- silvrhawkI just got a call from 877-298-6858. The company name is NP Group collection agency. The man's name was Mark Bishop. He kept repeating his name and that he was on my side. He would not give me any info but kept saying I owed $1738.13. He said I was responsible for an internet loan taken out on Feb 1st, 2010. He kept saying I was responsible for it since it was in my name , my ssn. I asked for my ssn but he refused. He said tried to bully me into setting up a payment plan. I told him it was his burden of proof to show me I took it out. Why in the hell would I take out a little loan when I had just bought a brand new motorcycle for my husband? I told him I refused to pay and if he has proof to email it to me. As of yet I have not received any such emails. I went on line and brought up NP GROUP. I found this site and found it was a SCAM. This is the holidays so pls becareful and DO NOT give out any personal info to anyone even if they threaten you with court, jail etc.

I asked him to send proof, I finally got an email and looked at it, I could have made this email . He keeps sayiing he is on my side and wants to help me. TY FOR SHOWING ME THIS IS JUST ANOTHER SCAM
- Laura| 1 replyLeft a voice message on my cell phone. I called them back and the company, NP Group, claims they are collecting for a payday loan from 2011 that was through Compass Capital and Midland Financial. I asked for them to mail me a letter of validation as I do not remember taking a payday loan and was told that the company prefers to communicate through email only. I told the guy that it is my right to have a debt validation letter mailed to me and I want a letter before I discuss anything. I feel like if the company doesn't want to send a letter they are totally shady.

- BigA replies to LauraThey are required to mail it to you, delivered by the mailman.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They have collected our numbers from a third party. I have blocked this number as it IS a scam. I searched the number and I'm not the only one getting these calls and the message is the same claiming they are searching the location of [NAME] and blah blah... If you get this call, don't answer IT IS A SCAM. You can see your collections on your own credit report and contact the specific collection agency to resolve your debt. Don't be gullible to these scammers trying to take your money.

- Cheryl replies to KJI just had this same interaction. I refused to verify information with them and the woman was so rude right from the beginning. Would only state is she from the NP group. I asked for contact information and she hung up on my very rude and unprofessional.
- N replies to WalkerI just got a call from this guy claiming 3 loans totaling over $1600. I almost gave my info until I found this site while I put him in hold!
- Darla replies to RayThank you very much. My circumstances are the same as yours. Thank you for your honesty.
- Michelle| 1 replyA guy named Mark Bishop just called me from 877-296-5622 and states that I had a payday loan from 2013, I told him that I had fraud going on my accounts from then and 2009 that I already cleared up. He was so rude and kept talking over me so I told him to transfer me to their fraud department. The lady I spoke to was telling me how it went through Wells Fargo and then after that the account was closed! Duh dumbo, I just told you two people there was fraud going on, people were using my SSN and bank acct. she kept telling me how I was lying and I needed to pay my bills, which is ridiculously rude to someone that pays their bills. On top of that, it was a silly loan of $400 and the interest is $600, so I supposedly owe them $1000. I would never put myself in a situation like that. These people are so rude and I feel like it's a scam.

- Iska replies to MichelleYes it is a scam. First if you had identity theft, you are not responsible for the charges. Second, make them prove you owe the debt by sending you the letter they are required to send by US Mail.
- Gris| 1 replyMy brother sent me a text that they called him twice looking for me but it was automated so they hung up. I called it they say I owe 1500 for three loans that I never took out. When they noticed how upset I was and in disbelief he said I should just pay first and then file for identity theft. Then he passed me to the supervisor. They gave me my most current email which I did not have in 2010. my last address I resided in and the name of my bank and job. However in 2010 I still lived at home so the address doesn't make sense. I called my bank and no info of any cash advances or attempted withdraws for payment appear or any insufficient fees show up. If those online payday loans agencies had really tried to retrieve the payment for those loans then there would be an insufficient fee of 30$ from my bank. For each loan and none appear. I hope it's a scam. I hope no one is using my info or can use it. I messed up because I said I did work at the place they mentioned and that it was the right email. I don't know what to do now.

- Tygerkat replies to GrisBe assured, this is a scam. No legitimate debt collector would tell you to pay the debt then file for identify theft. A legitimate debt collector would mail you proof of the debt as they would know phone calls, emails, texts, and faxes are not legal methods of debt notification. Let your brother know this is a scam and advise him to block and ignore their calls. You should do the same.
- SusanSame people. Different number 844 288 8802. NP Group. Claim I had an unpaid payday loan from 2012. Pulled all my bank records and no deposits made for a loan in that amount. They have called my daughter and sister's cell phones leaving threatening messages.

- MadisonSCAM!!! These people are nasty and say they're calling to collect a debt. They will ask you to verify your SSN. DO NOT VERIFY ANYTHING. I told the man calling I wasn't verifying anything and he said (very rudely), "if that was incorrect you would have told me, you and I both know that." Tell them you have reported them to the local police. Tell them to remove your number and any number associated with you from their database, and to never contact you again.
