Received the recording from "Stephanie" stating that they have my file with my SSN, and I needed to contact them. Robo calls are illegal, and this is obviously a scam. I've gotten this same call several times over the past month or so.

I received a call from this number stating that they have my name and SSN and if I did not call back it would be deemed as non-compliancy and would be reported or prosecuted?? I see that others have received same type of call from same "EAS" company.

    In any event,

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

I got the same thing. That is harassment.  I feel like it's s scam, like if you call that number back, you will be charged $100 /min for the phone call. It's very vague and it's [***] that people can get away with setting up crap like this.

Well thats a stretch and very doubtful, but looking up at some of the posts above yours will reveal to you useful information about the caller.

Have called my 3 times the first two prerecorded messages were from someone named Jordan Chase from EAS saying that my name and number were attached to a file in their office and to call them back immediately.  The third prerecorded message was from someone named Stephanie saying that they have tried reaching me several times and that if I don't respond within 24 hours they will give me no choice but to file me as refusal to resolve.  So after coming on here seeing that everyone has been getting the same prerecorded messages I blocked them.

Then today I get another call from a different number (978)229-0929 from the same company but this is not a prerecorded message instead this is someone saying that my phone number has been listed on a Monica Winston contact list and that I should get them to call them back.
First of all I don't know anyone by that name and second the call came from Massachusetts somewhere I have never been. So I blocked them and am going to report their number hopefully they don't try calling back with a different number.

Robot called so I pressed "1" just to find out who was calling. They said "Let me look up your number and I'll tell you who I need to speak with. We are trying to reach "John Doe" and he gave us this number." I told them he was gone and they asked that I have him call them back. I asked who they were and he said "The name of our office is "EAS" and have John Doe call us back at the number on the caller ID."  I asked what does "EAS" stand for and he said "That's the name of our office". When I asked what they do  he said "I've already told you." Who uses that terminology "the name of our OFFICE"? He had an American accent. Tried looking them up, no luck. Called them back and the same guy I just spoke to answered the phone. Refused to tell me who they are or what they do, just to have "John Doe" call them back, and I told him if they were legitimate he would tell me who they are and what they do. When I hung up on him he called back from 844.809.6675 and proceeded to chew me out for being rude then told me to have "a blessed day".
