- BCI also had a charge on my debit card. Culprit was Books a Million. I will never shop ther
again. No one told me anything about this deduction, only that I would receive 3 magazines
for geeting the BAM Discount Card. Has anyone been charged a reneval fee on the card by

- DonnaAlso received charges for a "free subscription" to Books-A-Million. Called this number back and cancelled the "free subscription". They are refunding my money.
- BAM EmployeeAs someone who works for Books a Million, believe me, we all hate the magazine program. However, if you don't offer magazines to customers, and get some to accept them, you get fewer hours, etcetera. Somehow, I havent even tried to get customers get magazines in earnest for... well, at least a year. Maybe it's because I've been there a while. Truth is though, in order for our paperwork to be legitimate at the end of the day, we do have to have you sign a slip giving us permission to charge your card. Most people, and I mean 99.9 percent of people just sign, and dont pay attention to the print, but we do HAVE to have your signed permission. So as much as we all hate doing it, it isn't illegal. Dishonest ? Yes. Sleazy ? Yes. That's why I don't do it. The company relies on the fact that you won't read it. Also, don't take it out on the employees. It's part of our job, and if we don't offer it to you, or get some people to accept the offer, we get fired. We just do what we have to do to keep our jobs. Complain though! Complain to corporate! Maybe if enough people do they'll listen, they certainly havent been listening to us employees about it!
- BizI saw this charge as well on my bank account and looked the number up. I knew I signed up for the FREE Trial for People Magazine through Books A Million but forgot about the charge. I meant to put a note where I could cancel but glad I didn't now. :-) But it's definitely for a magazine.
- gigi replies to lloydThis is the EXACT same thing that happened to me!! I am F ing pissed~~
- frustratedI got an unwanted charge to my credit card under N1X85P*PEOP877 41709 NYUS and the follow up led me to this number, which I tried calling so many times, but it had no data on my info. I have no clue how I got charged, but I am very frustrated trying to cancel whatever the hell this is.
- Caller: Magazines
- t.a.h.I've found 2 charges on my credit card with TWX People 877-417-3309. I've never ordered this and I do not recall having any phone calls for any orders.
- Caller: no calls
- gremlinperson replies to TinaThanks for including the email address for discontinuing the subscriptions!
- e.e.w.v.bI just discovered one charge for PEOPSTYL for $9.90 that remembered as soon as I googled the phone number 877-417-3309. I had called to cancel them about two weeks ago. I *think* the person I talked to on that number said I would be charged for the issues I had received, or the issues I had received past the free trial. I never should have done this "free offer," and I almost never do. But it was not a "free if you're not satisfied" offer. It must have been a "free if you only agree to stay with us" offer. Kinda like the deals cell phones and companies give for their discounts.
- JuliaI discovered the charges over the week end.
On Monday morning, after first going to my bank to get a replacement card, I called the "ref" number (same as # above) on my statement to cancel the subscriptions aand after many "auto" questions, I cancelled all 4 of the mags I had been charged for, totaling $103. I was told that I would get a refund on each one.
I have now called the number on my credit card at the bank and they advised me to file a fraud claim and have taken all my info down. She advised my to do what I had already done, which was call and cancel them. She said if I did not get my refunds within 15 days, to call the bank back and they would open the case as fraud in the promise to refund. Hope I get my money back. My bank is taking care of me as well so I feel better.- Caller: Books a Million
- Call type: Survey
- SpaceCommanderPlease be careful when you call to get a refund. If you choose the option to cancel and continue receiving the rest of your subscription you will not get a refund. If you press 0 from the main menu it will give you an operator and they can help cancel.
- LCMines was a free trial from fye which just happened @ the same time a larger transaction from different thief tried to hit my account.I never signed up for mags only discounts on other items purchased @ fye stores or online. In the process of getting money back didn't really know where i was signed up but i went to fye and tried to use discount which i had been using here & there and my discounts just happened to recently end.ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS I CANCELED MY CREDIT CARD. - IkeThis is crazy ... The only thing I purchased with my credit card at BAM in San Antonio, Texas was a coffee and a slice of cake. While we were waiting for coffee my brother in law filled out a form for a free trial for magazines. WTF how did they get my credit card when I didnt fill out anything!!!!! called 800 number and they said BAM sent over the credit card number with the free trial subscription my brother in law filled out.
That is just crazy... Hope i do get the refund of 24.50 in 72 hours....Never doing business with BAM again.. - Deja replies to RachelDo you still have the number for the magazine company?? Books-a-million did the same to me.
- NotGettingScammed replies to TinaThank you so much for including that website! I got my first subscription in the mail today and I completely forgot about getting haggled into giving my information to an employee for the free trial period. It was only after I gave her all my info did she tell me (because I ASKED) that if I did not wish to continue that I would personally have to call and cancel. I knew that was a mistake instantly. After reading all these posts, I am NOT receiving anymore of them. I refuse to deal with my credit card being charged for something I did not want. You are a lifesaver!
- SeanteJust figured out my account has been charged four times for magazines I did not order. So glad I took my daughters advice and "googled" the number to figure out what was going on. Found everyone's posts to be extremely helpful!! I am calling now to see if they will take the charges off and will be calling my bank to have them removed from directly drafting my account. ***Nice to know I just bought my daughter some books for Christmas from Books a Million***I read that helpful post and now I know better than to make that mistake again!! Thank you all for sharing. I would otherwise be in the dark on this.
- Lou replies to Tidali got the same thing!! A charge for 87.00. I was livid and called. After "Ring around the Rosey" with an answering device I called 877-813-0320 and spoke to a real person. I was assured the charges would be refunded to my account with in 72 hours. Not a huge problem but I handled it immediately, without pause to assure it was done.
Lesson learned, If it seems to be to good to be true, it is!! - Cherie| 1 replyI worked for BAM for a few months. I hated having to try an upsell this crap. My manager told me to put a positive spin on it, to ask in such a way that it would pretty much swindle people into it. My manager didn't like it either, the poor woman had pressure from the higher ups to sell this stuff. We were a new store and about three months in to operations, all employees recieved a questions/concerns sheet to fill out to give to the regional manager, almost everyone, not just in our store, but all the other new stores, had the same complaint, selling the cards and magazines. Their response to us was "Don't like it, go find yourself another job." We were required to have atleast 10 magazine sells a week...I'm sorry to all of you who have been scammed, I'm sorry about the jerks that signed you up with out telling you, we had an employee like that in my store, I'm sad to say he wasn't fired for this deception. Not all of us were bad, we did our best to explain what it was and when a customer said no, that was the end of it.
