I have been a long time supporter of Books A Million, but that's all changed now.  This magazine fraud is the end of my relationship with them.  It's more than just a pressure sale in my case and let me tell you how I know.  Yes, they offered me the three free trial issues of magazines and I knew (not because they told me) that I'd have to go in and cancel these myself to be on the safe side.  When I never received any magazines, to be honest, my life is so busy that I didn't notice it until I got a charge on my account.  I then had to go through the magazines that DO come to my house and get set aside in the 'when we have free time' pile.  No magazines, not a single one.  So, I am gathering up the info from my bank account today because I've been charged to the tune of 80+ dollars altogether and while it doesn't break us..well, we're a military family and we just don't have 80 bucks laying around that isn't needed elsewhere...anyway, I go online to cancel my subscriptions..which was painless and now I just sit on these confirmation numbers and wait for my refunds...but..what I found out is that there is a reason I never got any of the trial issues, nor any of the regular mail statements that would customarily (and I'm assuming are here as well) sent out to warn you that your trial is ending and your payment for the remainder of your subscription will be xxx amount of dollars...they have our old address listed.  Now that is why I know that BAM, at least this one, is scamming.  You see..the same day they offered this 'perk' is the day I renewed my BAM membership card..AND updated my address...so BAM had my correct address in the computer, I mean come on..I get all the little BAM sales notifications to my correct address but didn't get any notifications for this at the right address?  That's beyond fishy and my book money is going right back over to Barnes and Noble.  I don't like companies that are shifty and will treat a loyal customer like this or encourage their employees to treat us like this.  I will be emailing BAM coorporate offices, today.

Just wanted to add that I went to the site I left a link for and cancelled the subscriptions on the weekend and on the first working day after that the money for all three magazines was credited back to my account.  So it does work and works quickly.

This happened to me too.  The unknown charges appeared on my credit card statement. It was so sneaky how they did that.  Because I do remember going to Books a Million around the holidays and I heard the word "free."  But for them to charge me over 3 months later without so much as a renewal notice or reminder, of course I don't remember signing up for this crap.  Magazines that I received and didn't even read nor have an interest in.  So I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission www.ftccomplaintassistant.com.  I recommend that all do this because this is not right.  What if I hadn't even looked at my credit card statement line by line...because quite frankly, I don't do that all the time.  They could be getting away with this sneaky tactic!!

I also went to Books-A-Million and was offered three free people maganizes. There was nothing said about a  $58.50 charge that would be taken out of my account. When the charge showed up on my bank account, did a search on phone number that was listed with the charge. Found this site and discovered it was connected to Book-A-Million. Called Books-A-Million and the manager said the charge would be reverse.

What a Bunch of [***] !! I never asked for the magazines (plural) 3 in all $35 for 1 $25 for another and $13 for the third !! How the hell can any person/company just submit a request to our banks for payment and walk away with my money?? I asked for my money back and had to first cancel the subscription/s then I see on my updated page that I am only getting part of the money taken ----*&+_)((*&^%^  !!!!  I called the Phone # attached to the withdrawn notice and it wasn't the company that took out the funds and had no record or knowledge on these magazines WTF !!  I feel that the bank is ultimately at fault for approving the transaction/s in the first place without approval from me!!!!  OH DID I MENTION THAT THIS ACCOUNT WAS IN PROCESS OF CLOSING AND THERE WASN'T ENOUGH FUNDS TO COVER THESE SO ANOTHER $90 FOR I.S.   NO KISS, NO DINNER, NO F-en LUBE !!  I'M SORE and CHAFFED   I GOTTA GO --- GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!!!

You call the number that is next to the transaction number or what not and you go through the automated system even if it is a fraud do it , and the bot tells you that you will be refunded in 1-2 business days so I'm expecting my 22.91 in 1-2 days TWX*COSMO 877-789-1033 that is what mine looked like . i didn't get tricked into anything else i kept just saying no and no and i cancelled all of the charges completely

Thanks for that condescending tone. I'm glad that you're such a model employee. Unfortunately, the one that I rung out with never told me the part about automatic renewal and charges. My wife was standing right there too, and we're both good listeners. It wasn't until the second time this happened that another cashier explained it correctly. Keep in mind that not everyone does their job well, Mr. Snippy.

How do you talk to a real person? An automated voice machine keeps answering and I just want to get rid of the subscription.

I got a charge on my acct for COSMO Magazine. When at BAM a few months ago the lady told me that BAM was giving me a few free magazines and that if I didn't want them after 3 months just to do nothing and I wouldn't get them anymore. Well low and behold the girl had no idea what she was talking about and I started getting bills for 4 magazines. (I will be making a trip into BAM to talk to a manager soon too, don't worry). I called the number 877-417-3309 and got the run around in an automated system. Trick: just hit "0" it will get you to a rep quick (even though he automated system tells you there will be a long wait). Just be stern! I gave them no wiggle room and told them how disappointed I was in the way they collected business. I told them it was unacceptable and in about a 2 min conversation They canceled and are refunding my money.... lesson learned: If it sounds too good to be true... it probably is!

I, too, had to call and cancel.  After repeating over & over to the telemarketer, i had to finally say, "cancel". It's the code word, apparently. Saying you want your money back & you don't want the magazines or subscription isn't good enough.  Once I got the code word out, he was very helpful. I'll be getting my refunds of $24.50 & $58.50 back in one to two business days. I am just thankful I keep a $100 cushion in that account.

Was able to get our magazines cancelled. The trick with that number is as others have said - press 0 and it will take you to a rep.  Watch them because they might try and tell you that they can't find your information.  I happened to have called and used the automated system and had a reference number.  I gave the person that number and she was able to find my info.  She kept trying to offer me a few extra months free, but I told her that I didn't want anything.

When the call was finished, she was ready to hang up and I asked for a reference number for the call so that I could refer to it if I had to call back again.

Make sure you get a reference number!
