I just received a call from 847 582 3155 telling me I had a returned check that I needed to call about. They told be to call back 844 293 2901 to take care of it and reference case # aj1100** which was the same case number I got on 12/30 when they called me about a tax return issue. That time they told me to call 877 658 5919. Same company, different MO. At this point I am documenting a lot of cross reference scams like this one. They like to use the line “contact the department” in their voicemails.

This is a scam. They are trying to scare you into giving them money.

I'm not sure, but what they might have been talking about is a 1099 tax form (1099a or 1099c). This is a 1099 that is filed called a "Cancellation of Debt" - which a creditor may send to you if they cancel a debt for less than the amount owed.  I don't totally understand it, but the gist of it is that the forgiven amount of the debt you end up having to report as "income" on your tax return".  This option is supposedly only available to banks ans Original Creditors - and very few collection agencies actually issue 1099-c forms - they just threaten to because it intimidates and scares people.

This number look-like "hacked" number! They told me they are Facebook assistance, customer service! They ask a lot of information! Please pay attention! I think they will be hacked my bank account!

I can't believe I fell for this number!  I CALLED IT MYSELF as I was looking for the number on line for Airbnb and NOWHERE ON THEIR SITE could I find the contact number as they want you to email - of course later I found it.  I don't know how this number came up - 877-658-5919.  Anyway, had another no. for Airbnb but the wait was SO LONG so I had found this second no. - God knows where- I had scribbled it below the other.  Anyway, they pretended to help me as I could not edit my listing on airbnb and - Don't laugh too hard - I let him remote in on my computer!  And he did fix the issue and I was able to go live on Airbnb - and he kept saying there was a problem with my ISP but I said I am at work!  Anyway, I had to leave....then yesterday - could not edit again (now realize it was probably an internet exp. issue and may have needed to be on CHROME) - called them again when the wait was too long on the other number and just in talking a different guy said it was my ISP issue - he said IT people at work can't fix it.  I said I am going across the street to Microsoft after he offered to transfer me to a cert. Microsoft person who COULD FIX IT for $150 - $200!  HE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD FIX THIS..I said I don't have that etc. etc. - said I could pay later & I said no I am going across the street to Microsoft -"no they are not certified" (of course they were) and really scared me - he said my airbnb site had been hacked.  I went to Microsoft and they said none of this was true - nothing wrong with my Lumia 640 phone (had emailed photos from there to put on the site) Then called airbnb and they went thru my whole site and found nothing suspicious. I told them to take the listing off line and will probably close the account.  My computer at work seems to be fine...all I can figure is they wanted to make money with their "Microsoft expert?"  I am hoping I dodged the bullet and have learned  my lesson...

I called for support tech for Sony.  They told me the needed to check my computer compatibility with my wifi...then they hacked my computer....called back after the guy posing as "Jack" told me he was sending me something to print....then everything on the computer disappeared and he hung up...the number is associated with a company in California it appears....
