I've gotten two calls within the past two days over this.  The number is listed under two different businesses -- Shield Auto Protection LLC, and Fleet Carriers, Inc.  They've also used the local county administrator's fax number as a mask.

They can't arrest you.  I've dealt with these same calls before, and once I laid out what I knew, they stopped calling.  If it were legitimate, they would just serve you papers.

Got a call from 847-582-3155 (Lake Forrest IL) no information on line except that it is a mobile phone number.  Left voicemail that came through number 805-637-7243- https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-805-637-7243 . “My phone number is attached to scheduled service that will happen in the next 72 hours at this residence. The Service ID # blah blah.  Please have a valid form of ID present and be available between the hours of 12-4pm If you have any questions or wish to inquire as to the nature of this service, press 1 now or call 877-658-5919” That’s three different numbers through this one call. CThey have called numerous times with the exact same recording.

Suspicious call, showed as "private" with no number on caller ID. Caller,"Wanda" seemed not professional, said she was a "courier", and was attempting to deliver legal docs, needed an address of mine, and said I'd need to sign for receipt of legal docs.  When I'd asked why she/they did not just file a lawsuit and process serve, the normal way for handling legal matters, her answer was nonsense---sahe said that her job was just making a confirmation. I asked for the number to call her "claimant" and she gave me the 877 658 5919. I called that, got a guy supposedly named "Ryan Jackson" with "Executive Arbitration" in "Albany, N.Y."-----who seemed nervous about my knowledge of how legal matters were handled through lawsuit and process serving, my I asking  for their website so I can check validity, told him that I had been advised by the fraud  phone-call division of my local police department, and told him that   these kinds of  calls  had the familiar earmarks of scam calls I'd received before, discussedd with my local police,  ----  he supposedly transferred me to a supervisor,  and the call was disconnected---not a surprise!!   My advice -  ask them for a specific supervisor and askhim/her  if you  could  right then get a 3-way  call with your local police to check out their validity.  Chances are that what they intended to tell me was that I owe someone, I did not pay (which they would say is fraudulent), and I'd be arrested if I did not pay them------this is the typical scare tactic of  scam calls.    Good luck---and threaten them right back!!

I have received several calls from 317-219-4099 on caller id and they leave a recorded message telling me that my number is associated with a Federal 1099 filing that will be filed for me.  I need to contact them at 877-658-5919 to discuss further and have my tax id number available when I call back.    Sounds like a HUGE scam to me!

Have no idea why someone's name associated with my number would "be attached" to the filing of a 1099 form when I am the owner of this phone number ONLY!  I have never, ever had a loan nor have I ever had a "bad" loan.. No one should be calling my number with a threat that concerns someone else..??? The recording said "hang up' if you are not "John Doe" but I remained on MY line to hear what [***] was waiting --- . When i call the number, they answer with "Thank you for calling Enterprise Check Systems No one is available at this time......"

This is probably more common than many realize. I dealt with similar nonsense, but in my case I was issued a number by the phone company and ended up with calls for somebody I never heard of.
You might want to consider a call blocking device. There are plenty of options available. Do some research to see if you can find one that fits your needs.
    Good luck to you.

NEW DEVELOPMENT FROM 847-582-3155 RELATED TO CALLBACK NUMBER 877-658-5919. I received a call FROM THE 847 NUMBER about an issue with a 1099 I filled out. This is now SERIOUS. They left a message about a 1099 i filed this year because I was an independent consultant. They are digging into my tax records now WHICH NO ONE HAS DONE YET.  This now scares me because it is more than just badgering me over some debt in the past that doesn't exist. Quote: "This notice is for "me" (and that was repeated twice), This issue is in regard to a 1099 filing with the IRS and your state department of taxation on behalf of a tax ID appointed to this phone number. This message is not a sales or solicitation or from any government or state agency however, it is urgent as to the nature of this filing. You may contact "The Department" at 1 8776585919. When responding, please be aware to present your tax ID or you may reference the index number Aj110079."    Then that's it. The Department? give them my tax ID over the phone?. These people are nuts and now I need to go after them. Please record similar messages on this site. I want to see if they have changed MOs. I need to report them to any agencies that will listen and every investigative news team I can find in my city.

I received a threatening call from Jessica James. She was trying to reach someone named Nicole K. and had a case number for her to appear in court. Jessica James had the wrong phone number. There is no one here by that name. I didn't like how she gave such personal information about this unknown person on my voicemail.

Received the same threatening phone calls. They are leaving the messages on my cell phone, work number, and a group telephone number I used to be affiliated with.  They tried the same thing about two years ago.  I figure if they're legit, they would give their names and other information.  What can we do to stop these people?

    Really Annoyed
Started getting messages (1/6/2015) from this "unknown" caller who has left a message that his name is Richard Lewis and that he needs to serve me and two other people that are friends of mine, but that have no affiliation to each other (they've NEVER MET, and live appox. 250 miles away from each other!  The only connection?  They are friends of mine and in my e-mail contact list).  One of my friends is handicapped and should they contact said person, it would upset her to no end.  I have notified everyone I know that these are bogus calls and to please not give out any info and to say they don't know me should they indeed, be contacted!  This guy has also threatened to find me at my place of business (I work from home and have a security guard and gate, so good luck with that!)  Decided to look up this number and low and behold I find all this info.  One of my friends I mentioned was contacted and harassed about weather she knew me and was smart enough to hang up.  Also, have been getting calls from a 202 area code stating the IRS is coming for me due to problems with my taxes.  Not happening!  In good standing with the IRS and actually have friends that work there, so yeah!!!  Oh and at the end of one of the messages, the recording said "God Bless"   hahahaha.....when has the IRS EVER blessed ANYONE!!!  Oh PLEASE!!!  Good luck tracking these jerks!!  In the mean time....NEVER give out ANY info!!

    Eddie,

They called me too. Threatened I was going to be arrested. I did give them some information because if I did have an outstanding bill I want to take care of it. Long story short they hit my credit card I called the bank and they did an investigation on them and it came up fraud and I got all my money back. So they are for sure scammers.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Recorded call just left for me.  The recorded call gave an ID number and stated that I was going to be served within the next 72 hours and to be available at my residence from 12-4pm and to have a form of ID ready.  It sounded professional and I thought it was a scam but now I'm not too sure.  Do process servers ever call before coming out?  I thought they just showed up.  Regardless, I do not owe any debt that I know of.

No, they do not. Read this:

Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
