Suspicious call from "Blue Shield Plan". I called the number but it didn't seem right, was asking to confirm my name, so I hung up.  Called the CS# on my card, I spoke to rep, no such number in directory. Blocked the number as no where does it identify that it's Blue Shield, like it did when I called CS#. Having worked in healthcare I can assure you that the first thing you hear is "You've reached Blue Shield (or Aetna or Healthnet, etc) please listen to the following menu so we may direct your call to the appropriate department."

It’s legit. It was basically just a recording telling me my doctor had sent in a pre-auth I had been waiting on.

THIS IS A SCAM! Please do not give out any of your information at all. This is a more sophisticated version of a Blue Shield phone phishing scam. This is an automated system but they're trying to get your birth date, SSN, etc.
    Be smart.

I also received two voice messages, June 2019. They asked in a recording is this ...(my first & last name was given) I answered YES then it asked for my birth year. I hung up. I also called Blue Shield to verify all of this on my own and they said NO Blue Shield did not make any such call to me about "an update on a pre-authorization". Beware this is provably a fraud call trying to get your name recorded or the word YES recorded so they can use your voice and year of birth.

This is legit. The only info they asked for is birth year and they informed me that a special headache medicine my doctor had requested has been approved.

I DID have a prior authorization that went through today, and I got a call from this number on the same day. HOWEVER it seemed suspect, so I called BlueShield's actual line and they said that they wouldn't have called me and it's a good thing I didn't call that number back!

A day or so ago I received a call from this number. I didn’t answer the phone, but thanks to Apple and my cell provider, I received not only a VM, but also a transcription of the message left. The recorded caller said it was Blue Shield calling me (they provided my name), and asking me to call them back. They said a 7-digit extension would be required and they gave me that extension. I was waiting for prior authorization approval on a newly prescribed medication. I didn’t call back or check the number until today. Several hours after the call saying it was Blue Shield I received calls from my doctor’s office and the pharmacy saying the approval for the medication had been given and the medication was ready to be picked up. Seems that call must have been legit (or an inside job with someone wanting to record my voice) because any scammer that could have gotten the information about the prior authorization pending, could also have gotten my birthday. I’m not a conspiracist, it sounds legit to me, but I have no need to return the call.
