Yep, I got the same e-mail. I believe it to be a phising e-mail since I do not use that service and I was not even logged onto my computer during the times specified.

I checked my bank accounts just to be sure and everything is fine. I also ran a virus scan this morning and nothing showed up. In addition, why would it take five days for them to contact us?

    Same thing...

    MyCheckFree (online bill paying service)

This was represented to be a toll free line for McAfee to check to see if your "drive" was infected.

Oddly, the letter to me had no letterhead, or logos from the service.

    Seems like a scam

i got this email too. it had my full name and address on it... then said i logged on to pay my bill blah blah.... never mentions the company's name. im thinking WHAT BILL? WHICH ACCOUNT? so i called the number and got a "Thank you for calling customer service. Please stay on the line and someone will be with you shortly." again, not identifying what company im calling.
what scares me is they have my name and address.

I got he same email with my personal info. I do not risk calling anything that does not identify the company. Personally I think it is a scam. One of the companies that uses the CheckFree service may have been hacked and they now have everyone's names and numbers. However, if you call you may inadvertently giving out more information or at the very least verifying your info is correct. Never call or go to sites when you are in doubt. I am going to send it to the scam sites like scam busters and see what they say about it. I think if it was on the up and up it would identify what company's bill you were paying.

Apparently there has been a hijacking at CheckFree. Story at the link below. As to the authenticity of the email, it may be a scam from the hackers trying to get more information or it may be real. I would suggest a good virus scan to be safe and make sure it is updated first.

definitely a scam.  as for the personal info being included, the only account i have which uses "mycheckfree" is a dell financial services account (used to finance dell computers).  a compromise at dell is probably where the information came from.  just ignore it.  it's no surprise that dell is too busy screwing their customers over to spend time securing their systems.

I just received an email from MyCheckFree. They also provided my personal info but no account number. They provided 877 8004864 number to call in case I logged in on a specific date. I did! Weird. I'm not going to call. I think it's a scam.

I got the same email as others, which stated my name and address.  Not sure where they got this information.  I do have a MyCheckFree account, but AFAIK it is ONLY setup with another email address.

If MyCheckFree WAS hijacked I hope they would offer better protection and compensation than to give out McAfee software.  This whole thing seems fishy - and phishy - to me.

I received that email too, with my full name and address, and I only use their service through Dell's Financial Services website to make online Dell payments - but did not make a payment that day.

I got the same email from MyCheckfree too. They give both this 877.800.4864 number and a second toll-free number 800-564-9184. I checked the Mycheckfree website and the 800.564.9184 number is a legitimate number for them. I called it and the email is legitimate.

I had to think about it, but we use Mycheckfree to pay our Bank of America bill. Sounds like the email goes out to anyone that uses their service and you just have to remember when you logged on to pay bills, etc.

If your computer might be infected, they'll give you a subscription to McAfee for a year and also one for ID protection.

The email is NOT legitimate. I received the email this afternoon. Although it stated my full name,
it had the address of a house I inherited. Although I pay the bills for that address, my Credit card address is in another state. Just to make sure, I checked my checking accounts for an ATM Debit for
any bills I might have paid on or just after the date the email gave, December 2nd, and lucky for me, I haven't paid any bills this month. The email is fake, regardless of how it is addressed or what phone number is listed. I think hackers need to get a real job.

Yeah i called, and i got the free Mcafee and it was real.  I just downloaded Mcafee and I'm scanning the comp now.  I was sketpical when calling too.  And after i called and looked at this thread i was like, oh crap i made a mistake.  But they actually gave me a real Mcafee website and you do get it for free for 1 year.
