http://voices.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/ ... ml?nav=rss_blog - Jan replies to justinI got the email on 12/10, sent to my work email address. I did purchase something online, on the date the email noted, on my work computer. I did have trouble processing the payment AND we have McAffe virus protection on the work computer. I recall the virus software giving me a message I had never seen and I believe it did indeed "quarantine" something. I'm confused how it all came about, and how someone would know to alert me on my work email address which I did not use for this purchase, but the coincidence it too big to ignore.

this link is an article on this threat - kit| 1 replyYep! Just got two letters in the mail saying exactly the same thing as Ribz. Thanks for sharing!
- Buz replies to kitI was as suspicious as everybody else, maybe more.
I've used My Check Free for years; at one time they were owned by MBNA, who sold out to Bank of America a year or so back.
Thousands of companies use them as their on-line payment processor; often transparently. My local utility company, Ameren, uses them... ...Sam's Club uses them...
If you pay your bills on-line, you could easily be using the service and not be aware of it.
The e-mail is legit; they were hacked for several hours by Russian crime syndicate.
They're paying for a one-year subscription to McAfee, plus a two year full-service subscription to an internet credit monitoring service to AlertMe credit monitoring. I checked it out with McAfee, and it's legit.
My Check Free will e-mail you codes that can be used in lieu of payment for the subscriptions. - cm replies to justin| 1 replyI just got this, but in the mail! I don't use online Billpay, made no purchases on this date and although I bought a Dell computer, I did not finance it and did not use my own name to do it (used my husband's name). As it came by mail, I am wondering if it is appropriate to turn it over to the post office. Could this be mail fraud? Glad some of you others have called the number to confirm that this is a scam.
- prh replies to cmI received my letter in the mail. I have been unable to access of yahoo email account for over a week. I have no clue who these people are but, I sure didn't make any attempt to contact them or respond to this letter.
- Christine D replies to SmittyYeah, I wish this was a scam! I used My CheckFree to my electric bill on the 2nd and on the 24th my bank paid a telephone check for $34.99 for an adult web site subscription. It caused an overdraft and has happened to 2 other people that my bank teller knew of. Watch for strange transactions coming through your bank account. I check my account daily and immediately went to my bank this morning. Thetelephone check was in my banks old name, wich is what my account to pay my electric bill is still listed in.
