- MaggieThis 877-817-8766 keeps calling my cell phone EVERY day at noon. It costs me money everytime they call and I cannot block them. It is annoying as I have my cell phone on and this call comes everyday and they leave a voice mail besides, which also costs me money as I pay as I go. I even went to Telus to try to have them stopped but they cannot do anything. Please stop calling me - it costs me money!
- Caller: not sure
- Maggie replies to AThank you for that info. I will try calling them to have my cell number taken off the list. Did you call the 877-817-8766 number to do this?
- TomHave had two calls from this number, the latest left a message saying they have left several messages and wanting me to call this number. This is agravating. I just got this home phone with Rogers. Suppose to be unlisted. Obviously Rogers sells their client lists to telemarketers.

- EstherI just got off the phone from this "Credit Bureau of Canada" AND GOD AREN'T THESE PEOPLE RUDE? The guy asked me for my phone number and I said that if you managed to call me, you must have it and he was so F***ing rude and "do you want me to remove you number or not, give it to me." I asked him what was the reason that I am on the list and he said that they are looking for some "Lee" person but in fact that's wasn't the peson the phone message was calling for on my voice mail. They are telling me something different here, first they leave you call because they are looking for "Mann HarXXX" and then when you called, they tell me they were looking for "Lee". How doesn't this work? I got this stupid call for the past two months and got to the point that I can't take it anymore. By the way, I don't think it is not a matter of rogers phone, as I have a Bell land line for the past 12 years.

- Helpful informationHello all.
I too had the misfortune of being annoyed by these calls. The number is from the Credit Bureau of Canada Collections. It's a collection agency. I did nothing at first thinking since it was a wrong number, they would eventually go away. Then after more than a month of this, I got fed up and called the number back. I told them I was not the individual they were looking for and did not know him. A representative told me my number would be removed from their list and no sooner did I hang up that I got another call from them. So I called the local police (non-urgent matter line). Local police told me to ask what the company name is and to ask to speak to a supervisor and get their direct number and then they could possibly deal with it. They said that the provincial consumers' affairs office could also deal with the matter if I had made an effort to deal with it with the company that was unsuccessful. How the consumers' affairs office deals with it is by fining them. See, I was not who they were looking for, and there are laws that forbid certain acts by collection agencies in most provinces, (you can find out what those acts are by contacting your provincial consumers' affairs office - some offices' numbers and websites are available on the following url: http://www.the-cma.org/?WCE=C=47%7CK=224227)
such as the act of calling someone after they have told them that they are not the person the agency is looking for. I called back, asking to speak to a supervisor, WAS HUNG UP ON THREE TIMES, but was eventually put through to Julie Balau (a person introducing themselves as a manager) at extension 287.
Told Julie what had happened and that I had spoken to the local police and she said that my number should be removed within the next 24 to 48 hours. Will keep you guys posted if they don't keep their word and I have to call back the cops and/or the consumer protection office. Hope this helps you guys have some happy and annoyance-free holidays!- Caller: CBCC

- CatherineThese people are not the "real" old Credit Bureau that recorded credit information about you for the banks and visa, etc., which is now done by Equifax and 2 other private companies. Rather, they are using an offshoot of the old name to try to intimidate you. They are quite simply a private collection agency, just like the others so don't fret. You do not have to even speak with these people. It appears that most of their business is generated from Rogers about old cell phone bills. Rogers has a terrible reputation for trying to collect ridiculous amounts even if you did everything right, i.e., giving notice that you will not be renewing your cell phone contract and will be going elsewhere. I even sent them a registered letter as per advice from other people and presto, still they billed and tried to collect. Know your rights!! Anything over 2 years ago you cannot be sued for in almost all the provinces, BUT, if you even acknowledge or pay one red cent, the two year period renews and starts all over again. Ignoring these bottom feeders is your best bet - let them call and call and call - just hang up, hang up and hang up without even speaking!!! When it starts costing them money to call you, and the clerks who earn commission on nothing, that they achieve by getting no response from you, they will eventually give up. Do NOT change your phone number or they can bug your neighbours, relatives, etc. for your new number.

- TammyThese people call me all the time and I have told them they have the wrong person but they won't stop, I will be putting in a complaint with the Ministry if they keep it up.
Another thing you should know is that they are not allowed to call you and asked you for money unless they have sent you a letter saying who you owe money too and how much they are also not allowed to continue to call you once you have told them that they have the wrong person. Under the Collection Agencies Act, they can't call you until six days after you receive a letter containing the name of the creditor, how much you owe and the name of the agency trying to get you to pay up.
One of the people who posted above mentioned Rogers both Bell and Rogers will keep sending people after you over and over no matter how long it takes.
Catherine above was correct. Bill collectors are governed by the Collection Agencies Act and there are a lot of strict rules they have to abide by. For example there's a statute of limitations on bill collection. They cannot threaten you with a lawsuit or court action if more than two years has passed. Also they can't call you at work and only during certain times of the day. A collection agency may not call you more than three times a week, publish or threaten to publish a debtor's failure to pay, use threatening or profane language, or undue pressure.
They're barred from contacting you once you tell them you intend to challenge the charge in court. And you can also request that they deal strictly with your lawyer and they're obligated to use him as the conduit to try to get the bill paid - without bothering you.
One of the first things consumers complain about when they get on an agency's radar is the endless phone calls that follow, hounding them to resolve the issue. But under the rules, they're only allowed to contact you three times in a seven-day period without your consent and only after they've spoken to you for the first time.
They're not supposed to call on holidays and they're only allowed to ring your phone on Sundays between the hours of 1-5pm.
Call the Consumer Ministry at (416) 326-8800 or 1-800-889-9768 if you think you have a legitimate beef. And for more on the rules governing Collection Agencies in Ontario- Caller: Credit Bureau of Canada Ltd. Collection Agency

- Tammy| 1 replyPlease don't provide them with any personal info such as your name or date of birth I made this mistake when I finally called them back they were calling my house 15 times a day when we answered they wouldn't say anything so I finally called them back gave my number to have the number removed and for some stupid reason I gave my name and birth date than she said "now I'll update my records" I thought that meant they would remove my name but they added my name to a outstanding Roger's Cell Phone Bill now they are asking me to pay for a Rogers Cell phone that I never had, never ever had a Rogers Cell. Lucky they don't have my address, thats the thing if I owe Rogers and you have all my personal info just send me a bill but they don't have an address so there is something up there, please don't provide them with any info they don't need your name and date of birth to remove you number these people are corrupt they just need to add another payment collection to their Twitter account, yes thats correct they have a Twitter account that they add payments collected to. Very professional group NOT. Report them to your telephone company for harrassment or to who every else you can think of but PLEASE don't provide them with any info because if you do that debt will beome yours.

- droypellUser used this number to make a harassing phone call to my home. I have been receiving calls from many different phone numbers, area codes and I am looking them all up. They call at all hours of day and night. Arabic speaking person. I am not calling them back so I will not be charged for the call.
- Ryan replies to Thao| 3 repliesIt was not CIBC, it was CBCC, Credit Bureau of Canada Collections. It is NOT a government company, but rather a collection agency that wants to sound like a government agency. Do not give them any info unless they say your name first, and are actually looking for you..
- JenWas getting calls every day from these people looking for someone I've never heard of. I was getting sick having to check my voicemail just to delete the automated message from them so I called the number. The guy was nice enough and said he removed my number from the database.
- Sueby| 1 replyThey seem to be a bit sketchy, I have been paying on my account but continue to get calls from various numbers. They always ask when I intend to send a payment to clear the account and when I give them a money order number and amount they pretend they don't have my info suddenly. I've asked for a receipt for each payment and they outright refuse to send me anything in writing saying my money order is verification that I paid... oh, you mean the one you don't have on file and have no record of receiving despite signing to receive the envelope?? According to my files! I've paid over 1600 dollars to this company, but when I started the balance owing was $964. I've had no luck with the government helping me make them accountable because they refuse to put anything on paper for the gov to start looking at! They still say I owe $329 too!

After reading the posts here, I have now call blocked the number. - flying broker replies to Ryan| 1 replyYou are correct. I called back that number, after hanging up initially. It was indeed a proper business - a collection company with an A+ rating from the BBB (Better Business Bureau). The receptionist saw my number on her display, and I told her that my number is "unlisted", because had just received it recently. She said that this happens, because telephone numbers are being "recycled", and she said they would remove it from their list immediately.
- Nici H.There is a wonderful online resource that allows you to report harrassement calls like these.
My husband filed a complaint a few years ago on a collection agency that stated a Mrs. So and So lived at our address with our phone number. They even went as far as accusing us of hiding her and that she was probably my husband's mother. Once we reported them, they emailed us back with an apology and never got bothered again. I just don't remember what it was called - try using google! Good luck!
