Got the call today from 678.421.4908 (sent it to voice mail), it was automated, said it was United Health Care Coordination of Benefits Department.  It said my husband's name (he is the primary on the insurance however this call was to my cell phone).  It gave the call back number as 877.828.5743 and gave me an 8 digit code to input when I returned the call.  I did not return the call and blocked the incoming number from every phone on my plan.  The only reason I believe it might be legitimate is that I happened to be on UHC's website earlier today and as soon as I logged in I was greeted by a screen that wanted me to update the record of everyone on the plan with information about potential other insurance and that this was a routine request.  That said, and assuming the call is legitimately from UHC, I've now completed this task online so my number should have automatically dropped from their computer's call list.  I agree with everyone who posted stating this is bad business in today's climate of identity theft and phishing.  It's even worse if UHC's customer service reps do not know about it when anyone calls in to them to inquire about the legitimacy of the call.

Received an automated message for my husband to call United Health Care and to speak to Linda about a benefits claim. So far, no one has file for specific benefits with this company. I am glad that I read about the United Health Scare (Care) Scam going on so that I can tell my husband about the call should he call back tomorrow.

Received a robocall from Linda at United Healthcare with a security code. I called United Healthcare's member services and the representative verified the number as the United Health Care Coordination of Benefits Department. I called the number back and it asked me if I had other health insurance coverage and then said goodbye.

I received a call with an automated voice from 877/828-5743 mentioning an eight digit personal code.  I DO NOT wish to receive calls of this type and want our number removed from it's database immediately.

Just got the same call.  This "linda" must be a really dedicated worker robot.   I contacted UHC (they are my insurance carrier)  Haven't heard back yet.

I called and it only asked me if I had other coverage.  Seems legit.   That is unless they do a few like this to get people to say its legit on websites like this one.  I would say just don't give out any sensitive info or even info that identifies you that they don't already have--they already had my name.  If you are asked anything else including your birthday just hang up.

Come on people. If you get a robocall from your insurance company and it's "Linda" from this number, it's legit. They need to do this every year or so, to verify whether or not you have other insurance. That's all it is. You use the ID number they give on the phone, rather than providing any other kind of personal info.

That's not to say there are not related phishing scams that are spoofing this number, knowing that people might trust it.

Not legit, I don't have Oxford or United and never have. I contacted UH and they can't give me a straight answer if it was them or not. I ask to be taken of a list and they ask for my SS#, I tell them I am not or never was a customer so why would I give you my SS#, really shady.

My wife took a message and they gave her a 8 digit security code.  Called and automated attendant stating it was Coordination of benefits, enter your 8 digit , hello linda from your health insurance company, it states your name and want you to answer a few questions.  somehow it got my name and insurance company information.  I immediately called my health insurance and they stated that everything is fine and nothing needs updating.  This is a scam, hope everyone checks out the number before giving information out .

Like other reporters of this number, I've received calls from (678) 421-4926 every 2-3 business days, asking that I call (877) 828-5743 with nebulous suggestions that they need me to contact them to help make sure that my claims are processed correctly.  The recording also informed me that if I was no longer insured by Oxford/United (which is true), I should have my new insurance information handy to provide to them when I call.  They provided an 8-digit PIN (not sure why), and a voice generation system read out my name near the beginning of the call.

This smelled phishy before I even looked up the number here, and I was already 99% certain this was either a scam unrelated to Oxford/UHC, or it was a profoundly stupid marketing company (redundant?) that UHC had retained, and they were trying to get me to call back to establish a relationship that gets them past most telemarketing laws.  In the unlikely event that they were actually calling with something important, they can just send me a letter in the mail, as they've always done.

At this point, I suspect a data breach, based on the use of my name.  (My home phone number is unlisted.)

I just added the 678 number to my call block list, so they won't be bothering us again.

On 11/12/2014, I received a message from 877-828-5743 claiming to be United Health Care and giving me an 8 character PIN.  I Googled the number and wound up at this site.  Some people said it was a scam, other said legit.  I went ahead and called the UHC phone number from my insurance card.  At first the rep said they'd never just call me like that, then she put me on hold for 10 minutes to research it and transferred me right into that number to answer the question.

It did not ask for a SSN, only the 10 digit PIN.  Then it asked me if I had any other coverage besides UHC.

Amazing how many false responses are on here.

It's United Healthcare calling to verify benefits. Automated response. They do not ask for any Social Serial number.

SCAM! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION!
My husband received a call from this number- it was an automated message saying they were with United Healthcare Coordination of Benefits. Seems legit since we have UHC, however I had a bad feeling about it so I googled both numbers- the number that called him (678-421-4908), as well as the number that was left in the voicemail (1-877-828-5743). Saw information about these numbers being used in a medicare phishing scam, so I called UHC directly. The representative I spoke with did say that UHC does have an automated system that makes these types of calls HOWEVER our coordination of benefits was completed back in December, so to disregard the call. He also had me give him both phone numbers so he could call just to verify, and he said to disregard the calls from those numbers. So that tells me that it was indeed a scam.
The UHC representative i spoke with also said that if you do receive an automated call its always best to just take the call as informing you that you should call UHC, so if you get an automated call just hang up and call UHC directly just to be safe since there are A LOT of scams and scammers out there these days!!!

Said it was United Health Care. Automated call asking if my wife or I had other insurance for coordination of benefits. I simply said "no". that was the end of the call. Since I just up for UHC via my company's health exchange; I considered it as a legitimate call.
